I'm hoping Stockport can beat Wimbledon. The team deserves to be promoted in front of fans

Part of me just want it to be officially done, but another part wants the fans to be there when it happens.

But first we have to do our job at Huddersfield for the Stockport game to be relevant.

Think this is most likely too. A shame Reading didn't give us the whole away end. I know many tried and failed to get tickets and can't imagine they'll have anything close to a full house

1 WIN AWAY FROM PROMOTION

Tue Apr 14, 2026 8:52 pm

Yes 1 win for the bluebirds will match the total of points Stockport can get. AND we have way better goal difference.
So it's simple 1 win against Reading this weekend and we will be promoted back into the championship

We currently got the same points as Bolton if bolton won every remaining game
so that stops Bolton

Be careful what you wish for. Stockport have 6 games left and, IMHO, they have the ability to win them all. That would give them 85 points meaning we would still need to pick up 4 more points from our remaining games. We should do that but I never count my chickens until they are hatched.

Stockport also have an injury crisis, have to play those games over a short period and haven't shown anything like the form to do 6 in a row.

Agreed, not a chance they win six in a row. Won't be surprised if Wimbledon get something against them tomorrow. They're just outside the bottom four now and will be battling to stay clear of it.

WIMBLEDON v STOCKPORT TONIGHT:

- If Stockport fail to win then Cardiff will be mathematically promoted on Saturday with a win against Reading.

- If Stockport win tonight but fail to win against Exeter on Saturday then Cardiff will be mathematically promoted with a win at Reading.

- If Stockport fail to win both tonight and Saturday, along with on Saturday both Bradford failing to win at Barnsley and Bolton failing to beat Huddersfield then Cardiff will be mathematically promoted on Saturday regardless of their result at Reading.

Looking at stockports fixtures they are all pretty winnable but there goal difference is so inferior 3 more points will be enough

Won't be surprised if Wimbledon get something tonight, only three points above the bottom four now so they'll be fighting. They can help send Northampton down tonight too so there will only be two relegation spots left (one in reality because Port Vale are likely to be relegated this week too).

Anyway, no chance are Stockport going to win six in a row.

I see stockport go to exter as well Saturday so they have 2 away games in 3 days against teams fighting for there lives so fingers crossed they drop points in one of those games hopefully in both

Wimbledon lost their last 4 games cannot see anything but a stockport win :banghead:

Yeah but they weren't fighting for relegation then Roger, they are now so it will bring out a different side in them.

Also have to remember that Stockport have loads of injuries and will be feeling low after losing at Wembley on Sunday.

I still think its dangerous to assume the most likely outcome in football.

We all know the game can bite you on the arse in the most crazy, unexpected ways.

No-one can guarantee Stockport will lose any of their remaining 6 games. No-one knows unless they're a clairvoyant! Stranger things have happened, however unlikely on paper.

Until we're mathematically up, I'm not celebrating an 'almost achieved'.

Re: " Wimbledon v Stockport and permutations "

I agree no one knows, but the super computer thinks we are 99.84% there. Stockport have alot of games to play still in the same time other teams have 2 games less, and at this stage of the season that can bite.

Also - as Vic Reeves once said, "88.4% of all statistics are made up on the spot!"

I agree,

Look at lincoln who would have thought they would string that many wins together, momentum kicks in.

Re: " Wimbledon v Stockport and permutations "

I fully expect a Stockport win tonight, as Wimbledon have an injury crisis of their own, just don't see Stockport putting 6 on the bounce together

Re: " Wimbledon v Stockport and permutations "

Wed Apr 15, 2026 7:02 pm

Stockport's injury crisis is so bad that they're playing their top scorer, Kyle Wootton, as centre back.

0-0 after 15 minutes.

We got 82pnts they can get 85 if win every game?
We win sat its 85 pnts they would need to turn over 25 goal difference plus overturn 18 goals scored difference! Level points it goes on goals scored Is it possible to achieve both goal swings?

Tough game to watch.

Stockport just scored but I've switched over to Bayern v Real Madrid.

I think it's possible but extremely unlikely.

Win on Saturday and think it's done. Even if we still need a point to do it mathematically after then we have the home games against Vale and Northampton, both will probably be already relegated by the time we play them.

Re: " What Cardiff need to be promoted on Saturday "

Wed Apr 15, 2026 8:42 pm

Stockport win 2-0. I misjudged how bad Wimbledon are.

So for us to be mathematically promoted on Saturday, we need to beat Reading and for Stockport to fail to beat Exeter.

Re: " What Cardiff need to be promoted on Saturday "

Wed Apr 15, 2026 8:44 pm

If stockport beat Exeter saturday they then have a run of three easy home games in a row before finishing the season away at Barnsley

Hopefully we beat Reading and even if Stockport win then we'll just need a point against Vale or Northampton.

Northampton got relegated tonight and Vale will probably join them at the weekend.

People Always say mathematically but the realty is that the set of results needed for Stockport overtake us is never going to happen ...we win and city need to lose 3 games without scoring and by around 3 goals per game for Stockport to win 3 nil every game that's simply put
