Experienced centre-back Tom Lees, centre forward Harry Leonard and midfielder Ben Woods are all expected to be involved at Kenilworth Road after lay-offs of various lengths.

Woods has not been seen since damaging his calf at Rotherham United on New Year’s Day.

Lees has not played since pulling out of a game at Bradford City after injuring his calf in the pre-match warm-up on February 14.

Leonard’s last game before a hernia operation was the 1-1 derby draw at Northampton Town on February 28.

New Zealand international Matt Garbett won’t be seen over Easter, but could be back for the League One game at Blackpool on April 11.

Posh still hope to get some minutes into midfielder Donay O’Brien-Brady and Sam Hughes before the season is over. Hughes hasn’t made a single appearance this season because of a calf problem.

"It’s fair to say the injuries we have suffered have made it the most demanding time of my career,” Posh boss Luke Williams said. “We’ve lost players in warm-ups and we’ve lost both centre-backs on the day of a game through illness. It’s been very challenging, but it’s my job to still find solutions and ways of winning games and that’s something I need to get better at.

"We’ve won one game without Tom Lees so it’s great to have him back. He and Harry have been in full training this week and are fine. Ben Woods took it a little easy, as he was supposed to, in the second team last week, but he is okay.

"I have to be careful with Ben purely because of the amount of time he was out. He will still have to be managed. If he starts tomorrow he’s unlikely to finish.

“Matty Garbett was out running on the field today and he did well, but Easter comes too soon for him. He won’t be far away after that though.

"It’s been frustrating as there was a time when we looked like we could beat anyone in the division, but that hasn’t been the case in the last few games."

The Posh players on international duty have all returned fit and healthy, although the minutes played and the miles travelled by centre-back David Okagbue are a concern. He flew back from Kazakhstan on Wednesday morning. Jimmy-Jay Morgan and George Nevett have also been away.

Peterborough's defeat today pretty much ends any slim chance they had of the top six.

Means they could struggle with motivation on Monday or, on the flip side, they could have nothing to lose and play better than they have all season.

I'll say a 1-1 draw, which I'd be satisfied with.

Posh score goals so if we're going win we need minimum of 2, probably 3. I'd say a score draw.

Posh have only Won only 1 game in their last 8 games and that was against Rotherham who are in the relegation area.

The Weston Homes Stadium has not been a happy hunting ground for Cardiff City’s impressive young manager Brian Barry-Murphy.
Barry-Murphy’s first visit to London Road when manager of Rochdale ended in a 6-0 thumping at the hands of Posh in September 2019. It was a strong Posh side that day with Ivan Toney hitting a hat-trick, Marcus Maddison scoring twice and Mo Eisa also netting past young on-loan Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Sanchez moved to Chelsea for £25 million almost four years later.
It finished 4-1 to Posh the following season when Jonson Clarke-Harris hit a hat-trick in the first 22 minutes and Barry-Murphy left at the end of that season to work in Manchester City's Academy.

Cardiff poached him from City at the start of the season and he looks set to win an instant promotion playing a stylish brand of football.

He did bring his side to London Road for a first round FA Cup tie which co-incided with Luke Williams’ first game as Posh boss and Harry Leonard scored the only goal for the home side. It was Leonard’s first Posh goal.

Three visits for Barry-Murphy have yielded an aggregate score of 11-1 to Posh!

CURRENT FORM

Cardiff will be fresh on Easter Monday as they have no Good Friday game due to Port Vale’s FA Cup commitments. They were probably glad of a break as they have won just one of their last five League One games. losing two including a big one at home to Lincoln City who are now favourites to win the League One title.

The Bluebirds are still nailed on for promotion though as they have an eight-point lead over third-placed Bolton Wanderers. They have an exceptional away record with just four defeats and nine wins in 19 outings. Only Bolton, Blackpool, Lincoln and Plymouth have beaten them.

MAN IN THE MIDDLE

Thomas Parsons is the Easter Monday referee at London Road. He refereed Posh 0, Lincoln City 3 earlier this season.

Club captain Sam Hughes is convinced he can return from a lonely place to help Peterborough United to a strong finish in League One.
The 28 year-old centre-back starred on loan at Posh from Stockport County in the second-half of last season, but has not played a single competitive minute since making the move to London Road permanent in the summer.

Hughes felt a problem in his achilles during a pre-season game at Colchester United and, two surgeries later, he is still striving for a first chance to impress first-team boss Luke Williams
Hughes told the Posh Plus service: “It’s no secret I’ve had difficulties this season. I felt something in my achilles in pre-season at Colchester and I knew something wasn’t quite right. A scan found micro tears in my tendon and the only way to solve it was surgery.

"Three and a half months down the line there were still some issues so I went to see a specialist and further surgery was recommended. It’s been a tough nine months, but it is what it is and I’m here now to try and play some part before the end of the season.
"It’s frustrating. I’ve not been able to do the job I’m paid to do. That job is to train every day to the best of my ability and then go out and perform on a Saturday to try and help the team get three points, but I’ve not been able to do it.

"I’ve been in and around the dressing room on match days, and I’ve tried to do what I can off the pitch because I haven’t been able to do anything on it. That’s what a captain should be doing.

“It can be a lonely place when you are injured, but I’ve had people around me including other players who have also sadly been injured. At least I’ve been able to interact with them.

"My main aim now is to show this gaffer what I can do. He hasn’t seen me play or even train! I’m sure he wants to look at me and see how I can fit in to what he wants to do.

"I’m excited by that prospect. I’ve had a glimpse of it on matchdays, but there is much more to how he operates than that.

"I will be the one that wants to train in next pre-season. I want to be back training.”

We should win this Surely but depending on if BBM can change it if the tappy out wide stuff with nothing in the middle is working it not. Although if they use the two banks of 5 and 4 narrow on there box edge we will struggle if he don't change the system as they just let us play out wide then.

I'll never forget being in the posh away end back in 2009 and we was 4 nil up at half time and drew the game 4-4 in the Dave Jones days. I've never seen a manager not change a thing after every goal they scored in the 2nd half like DJ that day. We should of lost it to

Remember that and it was a sobering experience of ‘a game of two halves’ to the extent I asked for a spirit level to see if the pitch was sloping to one end!

I agree with you on all the above. Hopefully, we’ll get an early goal to settle us down but if not, we may need to ‘try something different’ in order to break (the very good at home) Peterborough down

A big day for us and in League One in general with both Bolton and Bradford both having tough games! :ayatollah:

I'd take the most crappy scrappy 1-0 and don't care how the ball goes in aslong as we win haha, this stage of the season is about results and not so much performances so come on the city!!

Exactly, doesn’t have to be 1970s Brazil, any win will do.
