Barcelona fan misses huge Champions League game against Newcastle United as he turned up at wrong St James Park -

Quite often it pays to do a bit of research before blindly following instructions, and that's a lesson one Barcelona fan learned the hard way last night.

Newcastle United hosted Barcelona at St James' Park in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, 366 miles away, Exeter City were hosting Lincoln City at ... St James Park.

One unfortunate Barcelona fan followed the directions to St James Park and must have wondered how Newcastle had even got into the Champions League with the 8700 capacity stadium that he found himself at.

It wasn't until a helpful steward pointed out his mistake that he realised what had happened. But being over six hours away from Newcastle, he was never going to make it in time to watch Barca, so he took advantage of the Devonshire hospitality and stayed to watch Exeter lose to Lincoln.

Let's hope we turn up at Exeter on Saturday ;)

Feck me what's salech done broke his neck. I thought it was just a muscle pull originally :(

Gone for a city win we should bounce back providing we don't play this shitty out wide and sideways and backwards stuff with nothing going in the box. Although it all depends on how Exeter set up wtib a blow block on the dge of there area and by some miracle bbm changes the system which he doesn't but we shall see :bluescarf:

Exeter City interim manager Matt Taylor has given his pre-match thoughts as the Grecians prepare to take on high-flying Cardiff City at SJP on Saturday.

City pushed the League Leaders Lincoln City all the way on Tuesday night, and were unlucky to come away with no points. Matt is keen that we take the best bits from that performance into Saturday.

"We can take the second half performance, and take heart from how we stood up to a physical team and best team in the league as it stands," said Matt. "They had chances and our keeper has made some saves and the goal was offside so we can take frustration from that.

"I felt the way the game went in the second half suited us, the players and our fanbase. We didn't quite create many clear cut chances but we were on the ascendancy so I'll be looking for the start of the game to look similar to that. It's a totally different opposition and challenge - they are still one of the best teams in the league, fantastic individuals but a different style to Lincoln and challenge in its own way. So we have to play our best game from the start."

Matt is expecting a great atmosphere on Saturday and is looking for a quick tempo match at the Park.

"You put this in isolation and it's Exeter vs Cardiff and there isn't a bigger game this season. Hopefully it's as close to a sell out if not a sell out. We know their fans will come in great numbers and voice and similar to Tuesday that puts a bit of added impetus onto the game.

"Our fans will react well and support us and the tempo and speed of the game will hopefully be at a high level from the start."

Limited tickets are still available for the Big Bank for Saturday, and Matt is encouraging the Grecian faithful to come show their support.

"We need the fans support and for them to come in numbers and full voice. I've said so many times when we play teams with a history and stature like Cardiff we really need their support. We are looking forward to representing the club and City as always and hopefully give them something to shout about."

Jack Aitchison looks to help his side back to winning ways when Exeter City host Cardiff City on Saturday at St James Park.

Last time out City were on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline against Lincoln City at St James Park, a goal from Tom Hamer following a free kick enough to secure the points. "I felt there were parts of the game in the first half that we did well, but parts that we obviously need to do better."

"It's the end product that we've spoken about so many times this season, it just needs to fall to one of us and on another day hopefully they are goals."

Despite a run of ten winless games, Jack believes there is plenty of fight within the team to eek out results and turn the form around soon enough; "We've played really well and not won games, and it's sometimes a mentality thing where it takes us until the second half to actually get going."

"However, there have been times at the start of the season where we've started really fast, Blackpool comes to mind when we were 1-0 in the first 10-15 minutes. I think a faster start is what we need."

While the Grecians had to contend with top of the league Lincoln City on Tuesday, they now look ahead to second place Cardiff City; another team that on paper look a challenge. "I think Cardiff so far are the best team I've played against, they dictate games and have players that you can tell have played at higher levels."

"We need to focus on ourselves first and how we can win the game before we look at them. They drew at Barnsley the other night so there's probably going to be chances for us to go ahead."

The league positions suggest Cardiff should win this match.
However, we can't be as confident as we were a few games ago following recent results and injuries to important players like Salech, Lawlor and Davies.
Also, one or two players are no longer playing to their potential.
Hopefully the tide will turn our way soon.

First opening for Cardiff. Ollie Tanner fizzes a low cross in towards Omari Kellyman. A sprawling Exeter defender half-clears to Rubin Colwill 10 yards out, but it's awkward and the City skipper cannot turn it goalward. Corner kick.
