OFFICIAL - CARDIFF CITY SIGN CALUM SCANLON ON LOAN FROM LIVERPOOL ACADEMY UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON

Cardiff City FC are delighted to welcome Calum Scanlon to the Welsh capital.

The 20-year-old left-back joins from Liverpool for a loan spell lasting for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.

An England international at youth level, Calum began his career within Birmingham City’s academy before joining Liverpool in 2020, aged 15. He made his senior debut for the Reds in October 2023, featuring in a UEFA Europa League victory over Toulouse.

Scanlon is our second signing of the January transfer window, and spoke to Cardiff City TV about his excitement as he hopes to hit the ground running here in South Wales.

“It’s a brilliant feeling,” said Calum upon putting pen to paper with the Bluebirds. “When I found out that Cardiff City was interested in taking me on loan here, I was delighted. I know it’s a massive club performing well at the moment, so it’s a privilege to be here and I can’t wait to get working.

“Everything about the Club made me want to be here; what it stands for, to the manager and the staff, how they approach the game and the style of football they play as well. It’s brilliant how we attack and defend, and it’s something that I want to be a part of. I know players here as well with good technical ability, and it’s an opportunity for me to learn and to hopefully perform as well.

“The main thing that I want to bring is hard work. That’s a non-negotiable as when you come here there’s an expectation to perform, as long as I’m working hard defensively. I want to do my bit for the team and help out here so that we can push on even more.

“I attended a game here last year when we played Huddersfield Town, and the fans were amazing. They really support the team, it’s a good setup here and I think one of the reasons for that success as well is how much the fans are behind the players. I think that’s a big thing, and I can’t wait to meet them at the games.”

City Head Coach Brian Barry-Murphy commented: "We feel that every single player we bring to the Club can improve us significantly, and we also have to feel that every player we bring in really wants to be a Cardiff City footballer. On both of those fronts, Calum fits the profile perfectly. We're as excited as he is to work together.

"He wasn't quite ready to play at the end of the last window, but he's been back in training for a long time now. We're very keen to involve him in our squad because of how much we feel he fits our style of play, and how much he can add to us.

"He's very keen to improve all aspects of his game, which is very aligned with how our squad works. Coming in to compete against the players we have will be a big challenge for him, but one he's really up for."

Welcome to the Welsh capital, Calum!

Great news this will help bagan and take a bit of pressure off him but bagan has to be our top 3 and a certain in starting 11 look forward to seeing this young lad play.

Monty this lad isn't coming here to sit on the bench .
Bagan has done nothing wrong this lad is much better

BBM rotating the players well now, will likely play every other game.

Kapakio needs to kick on now, his defending is suspect, relies too heavily on his pace to get him out of trouble.

Rotherham looking to sign Biancheri. Surely this is one we should be stepping in on and bringing him back.

He knows most of our squad, so he would settle straight away, and he also knows where the goal is. Whether from the bench or as a starter, this feels like a no-brainer signing.

If he performs well, like Kellyman, he could even become a ready-made Championship loan option.

If not, typically his first game at senior football will be against us

This signing shows that in fairness to the board they are trying to bring in players that BBM wants. He is clear in telling us what the situation is and moves for players don't always come off.

Monty, this really is good news and it will be interesting to see what happens between him and Bagan

I’m a huge Joel Bagan supporter but the competition is going to be interesting

Welcome to the CCS, Callum Scanlon! :ayatollah:

Cardiff are only paying 50% of his wages.

Clearly Tan isn’t backing BBM else it would be the whole 100%.

We have been trying for a while and we are still trying for two more, but no guarantee the lending clubs will agree. It is not that we are not willing to pay, but that the lending club and the player agree too it. I dont post nothing about players or comment on other links anymore, really what is the point, they do not always come off, that is life, although nowadays i have been told not to comment on what i have been told sometimes names sometime not.

It will be good for bagan to have competion and keep him on his toes and if this lads is as impressive as they say well I have no problem with him not necessarily taking bagans place, but been able to alternate between the 2 of them .
Bagan has been my fav player and after the game against Liverpool I though he has it, just like Joe bennet, hopefully with us for years and so pleased for him .
So look forward to the competition with this new lad who I am sure like kellyman will come to love it here at cardiff.

Most can see it's what we need but I doubt there be anymore sadly as BBM just plays the same system with one up top, for me its just this left back which is what we have needed all season really. This window is hardly been backing BBM for a promotion push in my opinion but I think most of us knew this. For me one loan is pathetic for a push on and another back up goal keeper.
