Winning but it's boring.

Sun Jan 04, 2026 6:38 pm

Followed them home and away and yes the football is effective and we are top of the league but it's tedious to watch. Home and away our fans are relatively quiet when we should be bouncing. I think it's because of the way we play it just doesn't get you off your seat. I probably won't renew next season, modern day football is not for me. I've been watching city for 43 years.

Even though I’m old school, I feel the complete opposite to you.

I love the football we’re playing this season especially after the dross of Bulit and Riza, Lamouchi, Hudson, Morrison, McCarthy, the list goes on!

Strange post.

Why is it strange? because you don't agree with it? Can you explain to me what's exciting about it and why when we are top of league and our support are silent?

It's exciting as we are winning week in week out especially at home and we are top of the league with over 50 points.
The atmosphere at home is purely because of the stadium, atmosphere away is always second to none.

That is not explaining why the football is exciting. The silence at home is nothing to do with the stadium we have had it bouncing in the past and Wales seem to get it rocking on times. The atmosphere away is nowhere near as loud as it used to be and don't kid yourself it's 2nd to none.

I can't see many teams coming and having a go at us. It going to be sit deep and see if they can nick a goal.

There'll probably be more action away

We need a striker with excellent movement and pace…. Play Ashford there

Totally agree.

If there's any people who aren't enjoying this season then maybe football isn't the game for them.

But maybe some will just try and be miserable about everything.

I agree it's not the most exciting but would you prefer a different style and lose.. We created numerous chances and should have won by more but at the end of the day it's about getting back to the championship which we are on course for. Some people just look for anything to be negative about

The football since Dave Jones left has been shocking. Even under Malky and Warnock (except for a few odd performances) the football was extremely boring. In my opinion, watching us play now is a refreshing positive change.

I already have.

Did you prefer the football experience under the previous two managers even?

Re: Winning but it's boring.

Prefer this to anything that’s been dished out over the last 6 years, haven’t seen a city team dominate a football match the way we have been this season.

Some of the football we play is really pleasing to watch, and seeing academy constantly in our team and the emergence of Lawlor and Kpakio has been a joy.

Its working, the last 10 games

WWWWWLWWDW 25 points out of 30 !!!!!

I am learning. It is what it is. I feel for those around me, because i still want the ball over their full back, but it not the way we play, I am learning to accept it.

Most goals, most points, but some still want perfection.

It will be more exciting in the championship where teams don’t put pack their defence. We are doing what’s needed to get out of this division and are the second top scoring team in the division. Indeed our goals per game scoring average is only bettered in the championship by Coventry and in the premiership by Man City and Arsenal

Think of those poor Wigan fans who drove 5 hours down here to watch their team park the bus for the full 90 mins and not even try to get an equaliser in injury time, stood in the freezing cold and then drive 5 hours back home....Now that's boring!!!

Re: Winning but it's boring.

Sun Jan 04, 2026 8:05 pm

I don’t think we are boring at all. I think they push hard most games. The issue we have is with a small
Number of exceptions every side we play park the bus and just leave it to us to try and break them down. It’s hard work and needs a lot of guile and effort. Despite that we are top of the league. Even the side in second did the same. It worked for them but when your nearest sides can’t even be bothered to be positive then it makes for a tough season on the excitement side of things.

if wed put three or four of the chances created away and walked away with a 4 or 5 nil thered be no negative comment about tye style of play, yez it was like a yraining game at times today but that was wigans doing not ours you can only beat whats put in front ofyou

I agree,

Re: Winning but it's boring.

Sun Jan 04, 2026 8:07 pm

To be fair I think we have been conditioned to bad/dinosaur football over the last 5-10 years.. the football we are playing now is what the really successful teams have done over the last 10 years.. monopolise possession, work teams side to side and flood the midfield. I infinitely prefer this and the results to the hoofball we have played in the past..

Re: Winning but it's boring.

Sun Jan 04, 2026 8:26 pm

We are simply victims of our own success. Every team from now until the end of the year is going to come to the CCS play a low block, leave us hold possession and hope they can hit us on the break. That's not going to produce entertaining football. Wigan were scared to death of us today, they knew stepping out and going for an equaliser would have ended up with us cutting them to shreds. Entertaining football does require teams to either be somewhat even or for the underdog to actually have a go like we did against Chelsea.

Really enjoyed the football today. Wigan didn't though

I get what you’re saying with it being tedious. I think we over complicate things on times with all the possession, and just need to cross the ball into the box instead of walking it in. The only thing I can say is the standard is in this league is not great and a most teams just come to city and get everyone behind the ball hoping to draw or pinch a goal. The main thing is we are winning, we have local and youth players playing for the badge for once. I would renew next year because if we go up and play the way we do against better opposition it will be a lot more exciting than the crap we’ve had to endure the last few seasons.

We need to get Tanner in a few u21 games as the boy is a tank who takes an age to get match fit, but when he does he gives us something different, directness.
He isn't a technical footballer like Ashford. His first instinct is to attack the full back, he is big, strong with a bit of pace and will cross it blind.

I'd still love to see Ashford be given a pop at the 10 role

Yeah there's definitely an issue with Tanner's match fitness which is understandable.

Once he's back to speed, the wingers will be tough to pick - although there will be rotation anyway.

I completely disagree with this. We have had multiple high scoring games, two 4-3s in the league and beaten championship and premier league clubs in the way to the league cup quarter final. We are also playing so many young Welsh lads that came through our academy. I for one am absolutely loving this season! I think perhaps people think if we aren’t winning every game 4-0 it’s ‘boring’. You have to realise that other teams are now setting up purely to stop us playing, like today. Wigan didn’t even try to play it was like an FA cup third round game where the minnow just camps on the edge of their box. Even a goal down they didn’t out any pressure on us. They were afraid if they came out and tried to play we’d destroy them. This is the best football I’ve seen here in years and the list excited I’ve been in a team of ours. Each to their own I guess but sometimes I think people just want to be miserable and have something to complain about. I’m loving this season and honestly can’t wait for each game. Other people are welcome to think differently of course but I’m totally on board with this young team and how we play

Re: Winning but it's boring.

Sun Jan 04, 2026 9:57 pm

I understand fans finding it frustrating but Wigan did nothing to try and win that game today ( in fact they didn’t really try to get a draw!!)
Some of the passing and play we have done this season has been a breath of fresh air especially compared to the past seasons and I am more than happy to accept that BBM wants the team to be in control even if it means we like today have 80%+ possession but only win 1-0 !

It has also been a joy to see local boys playing giving their all for the badge and everyone in the squad seems to be enjoying it and is contributing - long may it continue and someone soon will get a thrashing :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Completely disagree with the OP.
Always going to be difficult to play fast attacking football against teams who just stick 11 men behind the ball and stop us from playing.

Look at the game we gave Chelsea when they allowed us to play decent football.
We were class

Time for you to go son, I’m loving it. Let’s hope it’s the dawn of a new successful future for the true supporters.
I’ve had enough of this negativity from pretend supporters. More lows than highs supporting Cardiff, embrace the good times.
