About Stevenage

Stevenage are now in their third successive season in League One, having been promoted from League Two in 2023.

Last season they finished 14th.

Going into this game, they are 5th.

In 2010, they changed their name from Stevenage Borough to simply Stevenage.

Club Connections

Alex Revell made 26 appearances for us as a player.

He is now Stevenage manager.

The Opposition's Manager

Alex Revell was re-appointed Stevenage manager for his second spell in April 2024.

He previously was in charge from February 2020 to November 2021. He has not managed another team.

As a player, he made nearly 600 league appearances - including for us.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Charlie Goode is one of the best performing players in League One this season.

Jamie Reid has eight league goals this season.

Referee

Charles Breakspear will take charge of this game. He's only refereed four games this season, showing four yellows and one red.

So it would be better to look at last season. He gave 100 yellow cards and three red in 19 games.

An average of 5.2 yellows per game.

Head To Head - Last Five Meetings

We won 1-0 at Stevenage earlier this month.

That was our only previous game against them.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Cardiff City: Turner, Ng, Chambers, Lawlor, Bagan, Wintle, Robertson, Kellyman, Ashford, Davies, Salech

Stevenage: Marschall, James-Wildin, Goode, Piergianni, Freestone, Thompson, White, Phillips, Patterson, Malcolm, Reid

Last Game

We won 1-0 at home to Exeter on Boxing Day.

We need to be more direct than yesterday, a lot of time was spent passing from one side of the pitch to the other when we could have fed the wingers more,
bagan only once lobbed it over there right back defender for issac davies to run onto, in previous games this had worked well .
And chambers again not all the time but preffered to play across or back to the keeper the times he ran forward as did lawlor with the ball we had more success in an attacking sense.

A routine 2-0 win I think.

Can see Stevenage aiming to frustrate like they did when we played them away.

But we'll get a couple of goals in the second half to get the three points.

I agree; and these are the games that we should look forward too!

Stevenage should provide a stern test, but one we should overcome; particularly at home! :ayatollah:

Stevenage have the second best away record in the league so I'm expecting a very tough game, hopefully we have enough to get the 3 points but it won't be easy, I could see us getting our first draw of the season at the ccs I'm going 0-0

Agree we need to mix it up a bit more, when Fish was playing he’d regularly put a long diagonal call in to our winger.

Re: TEAM NEWS: " CARDIFF CITY v STEVENAGE " MATCH THREAD

Cardiff City won their lone previous league meeting with Stevenage, beating them 1-0 earlier this month. The last team they did the double over at the first time of asking was Oxford United in 1968-69.

After losing the reverse fixture, Stevenage will be looking to avoid recording successive losses to Welsh sides in the Football League for just the second time, after two defeats to Newport County during the 2021-22 campaign.

Cardiff have lost each of their last two home final league games of a calendar year, as many as across their prior 14 such fixtures combined between 1985 and 2015 (W6 D6).

Stevenage have won each of their last three final league games of a calendar year, scoring exactly three goals in each of those victories.

No ifs and buts we should beat these. They offered nothing at home and with the bigger pitch at ccs we should be able to open them up. We need to get at them so I'd play Joel Colwill, Kellyman and Kapakio as a winger. We need to shoot more and get ball into box more often. If we play like we did against Exeter could be 0 0.

If they score it will be most likely be from a set piece. Hopefully Trott will be back, great signing.

Hardly much difference in pitch size Just looked it up In fact theirs is longer than ours by 1 meter and we are just 4 meters wider

They are better away than at home. Only conceded one in their last four away games, unbeaten in those games.

I think we'll win but it's not going to be easy.

We sneaked a very good win up there, and they played in the style I expect to see tonight (keep it tight and then attack quickly), so I’m hoping we will score early or at least first, which will open up their game plan :ayatollah:

Early goal to open them up and make them have to try and play and a nice steady win, 2-0 or 2-1, I hope :ayatollah:

MY THOUGHTS: CARDIFF VS STEVENAGE

Mon Dec 29, 2025 4:44 pm

MY THOUGHTS:
Created By Sam ReaN

Well what a night we have tongiht a team at home who have 9 wins and only 2 losses at the Cardiff City Stadium. Facing off against a Stevenage team in which are unbeaten in there last 4 away games. This is going to be a very tight game even closer than the game against Exeter. I would love nothing more than to see the return of Ollie Tanner tonight and see how his sharpness is during a game.

Maybe he could come off the bench 10 minutes after half time if it is still 0-0 or if we are losing 0-1. Other players like Ashford and Davies on the wings will need to look sharper and faster than the performance against Exeter. Stevenage will be way better performance wise than Exeter and would be hunting for the bluebirds blood who sit at the topof the table.

MY SCORE PREDICTION: CARDIFF 1-0 STEVENAGE

BITS FROM THE ACTION
-
-
-
CARDIFF CITY LAST 5 MATCHES AT HOME
Cardiff 1-0 Exeter City - WON
Cardiff 4-3 Doncaster - WON
Cardiff 3-2 Huddersfield - WON
Cardiff 3-0 Mansfield - WON
Cardiff 2-1 Reading - WON

STEVENAGE LAST 5 AWAY MATCHES
AFC Wimbledon 0-0 Stevenage - DRAW
Stockport 1-3 Stevenage - WON
Wigan 0-0 Stevenage - DRAW
Peterborough 0-1 Stevenage - WON
Reading 1-0 Stevenage - LOST

It must have been the tiny stadium that made pitch look smaller. You have to give them credit, tiny club, very few fans. They are doing well.
