About Stevenage

Stevenage are now in their third successive season in League One, having been promoted from League Two in 2023.

Last season they finished 14th.

Going into this game, they are 3rd.

In 2010, they changed their name from Stevenage Borough to simply Stevenage.

Club Connections

Alex Revell made 26 appearances for us as a player.

He is now Stevenage manager.

The Opposition's Manager

Alex Revell was re-appointed Stevenage manager for his second spell in April 2024.

He previously was in charge from February 2020 to November 2021. He has not managed another team.

As a player, he made nearly 600 league appearances - including for us.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Charlie Goode is one of the best performing players in League One this season.

Jamie Reid has six league goals this season.

Referee

James Oldham will take charge of this game. This is his first League One game of the season, having refereed in League Two and the National League up to now.

This season, he has showed 51 yellow cards across 11 games - an average of 4.6 per game. He's sent two players off.

Last season, he gave 87 yellow cards in 20 games - an average of 4.3 per game. He showed eight red cards.

As far as I can see, this is our first ever game against Stevenage.

Stevenage,s strength is there defence only 11 goals conceded this season, this game goes one of two ways in my opinion they beat us 1-0 or we score early and force them to have to Come out of there low block and attack and we beat them by 3 or 4

3 points there would be massive for us and really start to create the gap, I would be happy with a draw there and as long as we dont lose then happy days

I don't particularly fancy us for this reason. We dominated at Blackpool and the Burton game, over committed and got hit on the break.

Would take a draw and fancy a 1-1

My worry is the Ref. his first L1 game, and his cards so far!

Would be very happy with a draw. Stops them winning a home game and keeps the gap between us and them (although they have a game in hand).

A win would be brilliant.

This will be an interesting game to see if Stevenage are the real deal or not. They raced to the top at the start of the season but with some quite favourable fixtures. They've actually only won one of their last six games and only picked up six points. They don't score a lot of goals either just a very mean defence. If we score first, I fancy our chances of an away win. I don't think Stevenage will stay the distance and will drop away in the second half of the season.

Stevenage are enjoying a positive League One campaign this term.

They currently sit third in the table, with 31 points from 16 games.

They have yet to taste defeat at home in the league this season, with a Vertu Trophy game against Walsall and Emirates FA Cup match with Chesterfield their only defeats at the Lamex Stadium in 2025/26 so far.

Forward Jamie Reid is their top league goalscorer, with six goals from 14 appearances.

Re: TEAM NEWS: “ STEVENAGE v CARDIFF CITY " MATCH THREAD

Stevenage boss Alex Revell says his team are excited by the challenge of taking on League One leaders Cardiff City.

Boro are third in the table and will be defending an unbeaten home record in the league when they take on the Welsh club on Tuesday.

Stevenage have had a week to prepare for the game, having not played at the weekend following their first-round FA Cup exit last month while Cardiff beat Huddersfield on Saturday.

"In terms of expectation, I'm sure they're probably everyone's favourites to go up this year," Revell said of Cardiff, who have won their past three league games.

"For us, we haven't lost at home in the league and it's about maintaining that run, it's about organisation, being aggressive, front-footed, [winning] first and second balls, all those things that make us a team, we have to get right.

"Playing against the top team is no different, we're all really excited by it, the squad is ticking along nicely," he told BBC Three Counties Radio.

Re: TEAM NEWS: “ STEVENAGE v CARDIFF CITY " MATCH THREAD

Mon Dec 08, 2025 11:40 pm

Revell said he had a "few players out" and may need to "jiggle a few things around" for what is the first ever meeting between the two clubs.

"Everybody knows their job, everybody knows what we have to deliver and I'm really looking forward to seeing the team we put out there go and perform," he continued.

Stevenage will close to just one point behind Cardiff with a victory - and have a game in hand on the Bluebirds.

"In recent weeks, we've seen that little bit of inconsistency maybe... but we deserve to be where we are because of the performances we've put in," added Revell.

"It's just about [having] that confidence and belief that when you step onto a pitch you win games - no other thought process, you're a team, together, they want to win games and when they lose, it hurts them."

That's what I'm thinking we have seen it before work Vs us but hopefully this ref clocks on to them straight away. 3 points please if we are going to be serious contender's this season this is a must win game for me to try pull away more Vs a team I don't know any or them, Shoe string budget and lack of support although he's getting a tune from them our past striker is right now :bluescarf:
