MY VIEW: TONIGHT CARDIFF CITY WERE BROUGHT BACK DOWN TO EART

Tue Dec 02, 2025 8:49 pm

MY VIEW: TONIGHT CARDIFF CITY WERE BROUGHT BACK DOWN TO EARTH / A MIXTURE OF FIRST TEAM PLAYERS AND YOUNG PLAYERS STARTED THE GAME.

For me at times we caused our own down fall and continued to make mistakes and passing back way to much.

The scoreline is quite embarrassing and we kept passing back??

So we had the majority of the possession but get hammered.

It’s the way we lost what has annoyed me.

Some will say well not bothered, but the same ones were celebrating when we beat Arsenals Kids, Its the manner in which we lost tonight upset Me.

City started with Talented Lawlor and Joel Colwill, Kellyman, Ashford, Nyakuhma,Osho, Turner,Giles,Mafico , All with first team experience , 9 players.

Many of tonights players in my view will never be good enough for League 1, never mind Championship.

PERSONALLY I STAND BY THIS OUR SQUAD IS NOT BIG ENOUGH WITH TALENT FOR THE CUPS & LEAGUE GAMES.

PROMOTION IS WHAT WILL MATTER COME MAY :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

But if we had won we would be celebrating

Joel Colwill Captained Cardiff City tonight with a much stronger team played than the previous round.

Wimbledon had a number of injuries with their squad being stretched.

FIRST-HALF: Cardiff has the majority of the posseseion, but Wimbledon created most of the chances, Cardiff made to many mistakes, giving Wimbledon a deserved lead at H/T 0-1

Cardiff were dominating possession, but hardly doing anything upfront, passing back, making mistakes etc, Wimbledon were dominating regarding shots:

GOAL! Cardiff City 0-1 AFC Wimbledon (Sasu 29)

Two poor mistakes . Tanatswa Nyakuhwa loses possession poorly under a little pressure. Then Dylan Lawlor makes a big mistake, mistiming his challenge on Sasu, who flicked the ball around him.
Gabriel Osho also a little laboured in closing down the space and Sasu smashes past Matt Turner from a tight angle from close range.

For me Osho iOS not a League 1 player.

SECOND-HALF :

H/T SUBS: Omari Kellyman off for Luke Pearce.

46 mins: Gabriel Osho off for Noah Williams.
GOAL! Cardiff City 0-2 AFC Wimbledon
Goal. Aron Sasu again. Smashes one low from 18 yards out and it flies underneath Matt Turner.

49mins:

GOAL! Cardiff City 0-3 AFC Wimbledon
Goal! Omar Bugiel heads in at the back post from the corner.
Noah Williams flicked the corner on in an attempt to clear, but Bugiel loses Luke Pearce and heads home from a tight angle.

54 mins: GOAL! Cardiff City 0-4 AFC Wimbledon (Sasu hatrick)
Goal. That is so, so easy.
Cardiff dispossessed in midfield and the ball is played to Aron Sasu, 25 yards out. He smashes one low and, again, it's under Matt Turner, who might've done better.

Defenders didn't close down, poor.

As the games was virtually over:

66mins: Axel Donczew, the 15-year-old, is on for his second appearance. Cian Ashford off.
Trey George also on for Troy Perrett.

70 mins:Crossbar! 15-year-old Axel Donczew with some stunning feet to nip past a defender before rifling a low shot on target. Joe McDonnell is outstretched and tips it on to the bar!

76mins GOAL! Cardiff City 0-5 AFC Wimbledon
Aron Sasu heads in at the near post. That is more poor goalkeeping, I'm afraid - no way that should have gone in at the near post.
Sasu outjumps Noah Williams and Jack Kingdon before netting.

83mins Dylan Lawlor off for T-Jay Parfitt.
GOAL! Cardiff City 1-5 AFC Wimbledon (Giles 88)
Goal! Luey Giles' first senior goal! His free-kick is deflected and balloons into the net past Joe McDonnell.

Men against boys (literally). Would have been nice to win but not going to lose any sleep over it, good luck to Wimbledon in the next round - they were brilliant.

Saturday much more important and hopefully extend our lead at the top.

Boys against a team that plays regularly in League one. It was going to happen.

Result aside one positive for me tonight was axel Donczew, I think this lad has a huge future ahead of him he just has that bit of xfactor about him and I'm excited to watch him progress

Wimbledon's changes were the players on their bench on Saturday. They went way more stronger than us.

I'm already over tonight, not a big deal and I noticed in the second half that I just laughed when they kept scoring because I don't really care.

Would have been nice to win but no big deal that we lost.

That’s what has annoyed me

I’m embarrassed to go in to work tomorrow after that result

Re: MY VIEW: TONIGHT CARDIFF CITY WERE BROUGHT BACK DOWN TO

That was the worst possible team for our young lads to face tonight. A hardened, experienced League One side with nothing to fear, they’re not going down and probably won’t make the play-offs, so a trip to Wembley is likely high on their list of priorities.

If you don’t give young players a chance, you’ll never know what they can do. Giving someone like Axel an opportunity at 15 could really accelerate his development. He was so unlucky not to score and looked very confident going up against some big lumpers.

I agree there were a few out there who looked well off the pace, but that’s useful too, it gives clear grounds for releasing players and giving others a shot next time.

Considering we’ve already got the glamour tie vs. Chelsea, I think this tournament has been brilliant for blooding youngsters, and BBM has pretty much used it perfectly.

Kswlor, Coleill and Ashford yes. The other you can't say are first teamers.

I said they have had first team experience and they have

We were embarrassed in the way we conceded

Wimbledon were thousands of professional games ahead of the Arsenal kids, and our starting team. As soon as they announced their starting line-up I expected a very tough night.

You can’t have it both ways. The club is clearly going in the direction of promoting youth, and BBM has targeted this competition to do exactly that. He’s gone with strong first-team selections in every League Cup game, and obviously the league results are the priority.

So there it is: he either changes direction because we qualified and starts selecting senior players, or he stays consistent and gives the youngsters more experience.

Even Lawlor and Colwill had tough nights, but Colwill also got to experience captaining the club he supports. I thought Axel was a big positive, and where might he be when he’s 18?

Exciting times to be a Cardiff fan :ayatollah:

When we beat Arenal’s kids who had previously lost to Exeter , it was like we had won the Cup

And they had last season lost to another lower league club

So yes this hurts

Very worrying performance from many of those young players tonight , right across the park. From GK to Up top
Just goes to show you have to have a blend of experience to bring them on and challenge competitively

With 4 big fixtures in next fortnight then we can understand why such a young side was chosen. Let's just hope not too much deflation from the result. Surely the 3 league games and Chelsea has to be priority and hopefully proves justification to an extent in this fixture

You can get away with one or two small lads, but 8 is another thing.

All managers speak with a forked tongue, so I take a fair bit of things BBM says with a pinch of salt. He doesn't give a hoot with the team he selected, nor do I.

Joel can't play 6 and Kellyman is never a striker, so we all learnt a bit

No options forward left the back line scared to play forward. Mafico isn’t a defender, defensive midfielder who needs the support behind.

Not the end of the world, would have been nice to see a better performance but we move on

Agree with Fred Keanor… what disappointed me most was how poor Lawlor, Colwill, Osho and Turner were.
The whole team were incredibly weak on the ball and had so little movement (hence why the sideways and backwards crap returned). The only glimmer of hope was the 15 year old lad. So confident. A fantastic prospect.
