Match Thread " Liechtenstein v Wales "

Thu Nov 13, 2025 9:00 pm

Wales play the first of their final two World Cup qualifiers on Saturday with a game against Liechtenstein in Vaduz.

Kick off is at 5pm (UK time). It will be shown live on BBC One in Wales and BBC Two in the rest of the UK.

There are FIVE Cardiff City players in the squad - Ronan Kpakio, Dylan Lawlor, Joel Colwill, Rubin Colwill and Isaak Davies.

Wales are guaranteed a play-off place due to the Nations League performance.

But, realistically, only a win in this game and against North Macedonia in Cardiff on Tuesday will secure second place in the group.

Second place would mean Wales would have a home semi final in the play-offs. North Macedonia are three points clear of them, having played a game more, and have a six-goal advantage in goal difference.

Liechtenstein are bottom of the group. They haven't picked up a point or even scored a goal in this campaign

Isn’t it lovely to see a flock of Bluebirds in a Wales squad after years in the wilderness?

I’m not a great lover of the international game, but Craig Bellamy and his inclusion of the young Bluebirds, has got my interest again; albeit from the comfort of my armchair :ayatollah:

Wales have been hit by a triple injury blow ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Liechtenstein and North Macedonia next week.

Ben Davies, Ben Cabango and Kieffer Moore have all pulled out of Craig Bellamy's squad, with Cardiff City's Isaak Davies and Queens Park Rangers full-back Rhys Norrington-Davies both called up.

Isaak Davies and Rhys Norrington-Davies have been added to Wales' squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers after Ben Davies, Ben Cabango and Kieffer Moore were forced to withdraw through injury.

Wales face Liechtenstein on Saturday, November 15, in Vaduz. They then head back to Cardiff City Stadium to take on North Macedonia the following Tuesday.

Belgium will most certainly be group winners if they get four points from their two game against Kazakhstan away and Liechtenstein at home. That’s a very basic example. But if they do that it’s beyond doubt. The real fight comes not in this forthcoming game but on Tuesday next when Wales will face off at home against North Macedonia. The winner will take second play off spot we are certain of that. North Macedonia are in second place three points ahead of Wales with just that game to play next week. That means the away game is Liechtenstein has to be pretty much an away win. Although a draw still leaves Wales having to beat North Macedonia to end up in second place.

If Wales do finish third in the group they will have to rely on their excellent Nations League campaign. Here’s some permutations. Wales need to win by six goals in the first game to go into the match (North Macedonia) in second on goal difference, which would mean a draw would be enough in the last game. While both North Macedonia and Wales are guaranteed a playoff route through the Nations League, finishing in second gives a better seeding -- and for Wales a home semi final.

So really it is way off being all over. Wales will want to finish second in Group J to get a home draw in the play off semi finals next year. (Match 26-31) Even if they completely made a hash of these next two games they would go into the play offs for the World Cup but with a lower seeding which would see them away in those play offs.

Any Wales away game is never guaranteed a win tbh, I am sure we will beat Liechtenstein but never take it for granted. We will certainly to score as many as possible as is 6 better than ours and wouldn't want it to come down to GD if we draw against them and both be on 14 points.

If we can't beat Liechtenstein away then we don't deserve to go through via the play-offs.

They haven't even scored a goal in this campaign.

If we can't beat Liechtenstein away then we deserve to go through via the play-offs.

Absolutely, but we need at least 6 against them to even out GD with Macedonia as if it comes down to a draw with Macedonia then we come third on GD as both on 14 points.

Absolutely awful tactics.. yes they're playing deep but playing slower than a snail is not going to get a goal anytime soon....
Their goalkeeper is terrible but we've had 3 shots on target?

Is it? Longer goes on more lichtenstein feel they can grab a point! Nothing suggests we will score so far

If Wales don't win this by a few goals then they don't deserve to qualify. Hopefully the second half will give us some goals.

Frustrating half from us.

Is there a goal in us?

Ffs Ashley Williams said we played quik crisp football? He must have fallen asleep and dreamt we played like that? 4 shots on target against this team regardless of playing 11 man defence there's no press its pedestrian football at best

We started off playing some lovely football under Bellamy. For some reason we have gone far too laboured in our attacking approach. The intensity and creativity just seemed to have vanished from his first few games in charge.

Been coming home from holiday on a coach from Southampton! Listened to first half on Radio Wales. For 25 mins they were going on about whether we could get 6! With Broadhead and Harris leading the attack?!?
Watching on tv… surely we must get 2-0 against a tiring weak team. YES!!!!

If say so ... this performance is indicative of how we ate playing generally and that wont be good enough against n Macedonia who are unbeaten in this group... only consolation is we are at home.
