Wrexham player James McClean was allegedly involved in an altercation with a Cardiff City supporter ahead of last week’s Carabao Cup tie at the Racecourse Ground.

WalesOnline has learned that the alleged incident took place in the players’ parking area before Cardiff’s 2-1 win. The row was sparked by McClean talking with a group of away supporters which is thought to have started jovially before escalating.

Wrexham say they are aware of the incident.

Wrexham players are usually allocated a private compound to park their cars, and it is unclear how the supporters were able to enter the area to begin a dialogue with the player.

A spokesperson for Wrexham said: “Wrexham AFC are aware of an incident involving a first-team player and a visiting supporter ahead of our match against Cardiff City, which has been reported to the relevant authorities.

"We will be making no further comment on the matter at this stage."

Cardiff have declined to comment on the incident.

McClean, 36, was an unused substitute in the match, which Cardiff won through goals from Yousef Salech and Will Fish.

UPDATE:

Spoke last night to SLO Paul Corky:

It 100% happened as Corky was in the car park.

The lad does not want to press charges

Get both sides of the story first. Footballers are people and have a breaking point like everyone else.

If it was a Cardiff fan, being like Cardiff fans can be then it might have been deserved.

Might is the important word there.

Depends on the situation. If there was some horrible stuff thrown his way then I don’t blame him. When someone gets abuse thrown at them everyday, no matter who they are or what they’ve done or said, there’s going to be a breaking point.
