Incident with the Exeter goalkeeper

Tue Sep 16, 2025 9:50 pm

Can anyone who was at the game provide some clarity on this?

Early in the second half, the referee stopped the game. He spoke to both managers, both captains and the Exeter goalkeeper (Bycroft). He also had a word with a steward.

Rumours that it was something to do with our fans chanting something at Bycroft that contained the word "paedo".

Hoping someone at the game can provide more details?

The keeper was called a nonce he complained to the ref, second time he was called a grass and complained again, South Wales Police came to talk with the fans and said if it carries on the game will be called off its up to you if you want that to happen

There were paedo chants. Not the nicest of chants but one heard at football games.

My take is that it is offensive, yes, but not discriminatory. And thats not saying that it is right.

Sheep shagger was heard immediately after from Exeter fans which IS discriminatory, which wasnt reported, and which didnt bother me.

Its sad that these days fans have the power to abandon a game through a quick word with a steward.

Fans should be encouraged to report anything and it is important that the club themselves take action against individuals who have been proved to have made such comments.

Dave Jones had terrible abuse, nothing was ever done, it's part of the game wth many fans still. You can't stop a game because some says something, it's football.

If they did, fans would do it to get the game stopped when they are losing.

I may be in the minority here but songs calling people paedos and that Swansea song make me embarrassed to be associated with the people singing along to it. I’m all for banter but insinuating someone is the most depraved and abominable thing like that is too far for me.

I’m with you mate.
Clever banter is great, that’s just horrible and cringeworthy

Yep I hate such songs and will not join in with them and the imbeciles that sing it.

That’s not the full story.
He got a pleasant roasting all mainly supportive and humorous
After he complained to the ref on the paedo chant

We were cheering his saves, we love you bycroft,
If bycroft scores we’re in the pitch, but Croft is a bluebird and loads more.

Even the Exeter stewards were laughing.
It was a very good natured situation really.

One of the best trips I’ve been on for years for humour.

Some just like to moan and generalise.
Get your necks in or make new songs up ffs!!!

Hang on mate. Do you think chanting peado is ok? I’m not on about the rest of the banter.

Back in the 70s in my home town newtown we followed the local team abot 60 of us,
when we had our floodlights installed we had a celeb came to open the flood lights, with all the press and dignetories of the town there .
The celeb was the very "camp" dancer lionel blare, at that time,
before the count down to the switch on ,we fans starting chanting lional lional show us your ar.e lional show us your ar.e
He obliged by turning around and giving a wiggle of his rear to the laughter of most of us, at the embarestment it would cause ,but no criminal proceedings etc or even a telling off for us fans and we went on to beat wrexham that night.

Hurty words are getting redclious in this country it has to stop.

Monty I sort of agree with you that this country has gone too woke but personally I find the peado and sh@gged by your father chants unfunny and pointless. My opinion I suppose.

Well we all know now that a lot of things were allowed to happen in the 70s that shouldn't have been allowed.

I don't like that certain song we sing about the Jacks and never have.

I would say that the fact that the referee saw it fit to pause the game and warn the fans, via the police, that the game would be abandoned if it continued showed that it was not appropriate last night.

That's all I can comment on it because I wasn't there and didn't hear anything through the TV coverage.

If they want to abandon games for naughty words, let's sing them next time we go two goals down or in the last minutes if we are one down

We could go unbeaten all season that way :laughing6:

I’m all for ‘banter’ and ‘interaction’ at a football match, but calling someone a ‘paedo’ for no logical or genuine reason?

It’s not right, it’s not fair, and it’s certainly not ‘funny’!

And in this day and age, too!

Some people need their heads read, if they think that is ‘acceptable’ at a football match or in general! :banghead:

Re: Incident with the Exeter goalkeeper

What’s different this year, I guess, is the bigger away crowds in smaller grounds, closer to the pitch, with goalkeepers not used to that kind of pressure, and the added impact of an intimidating away support.

Why would paedo NOT be discriminatory yet Sheep Shagger is?

I understand that you cannot discriminate against paedos but surely it is discriminatory against the GK or GK's in general as it has been a chant against them for we a long time.

So you’re saying that to call someone (without foundation) a ‘paedo’ is acceptable in any era?

As I said elsewhere, I’m all for proper ‘banter’, but I sincerely hope not!

Sounds like people want to use “woke” and “lefty liberals” to justify being complete cunts to other human beings. Ah well, I stand by my view that calling someone you don’t know a “paedo” is cowardly at best.
