Competition Format

As this isn't a competition we're used to, this is a brief explanation of the format.

We will play three games. Exeter and Arsenal U21s at home, Newport away. The top two in the group progress to the knockout stages.

A win in 90 minutes gives three points, with a defeat giving no points. If scores are level at 90 minutes then a penalty shootout will take place with the winners getting two points and the losers getting one point.

About Exeter City

Exeter City are now in their fourth successive season in League One, having been promoted from League Two in 2022.

Last season they finished 16th.

They have nine points from eight games so far this season, leaving them in the same position they finished last season in.

Club Connections

Josh Magennis plays for Exeter and previously played for us.

The Opposition's Manager

Gary Caldwell has been Exeter manager since October 2022.

He previously managed Wigan, Chesterfield and Partick Thistle.

As a player, he was best known for his time at Celtic.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Ethan Brierley is a promising young midfielder on loan from Brentford.

Referee

TBC.

Head To Head - last five meetings

Our last two meetings have been friendlies. We drew one and lost one.

In the three before that, we won them all - but the last was in 2002.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Both teams are likely to make plenty of changes from their league game.

Last Game

We drew 1-1 at Stockport in the league on Saturday.

On the same day, Exeter lost 2-0 at home to Port Vale in the League

I thought the same before the season started but then BBM played a strong team in the Carabao Cup games.

Wouldn't surprise me if Osho was involved as he didn't play today.

Nyakuhwa, Mafico, Davies, Giles, Turner, Robinson etc could all be in the team.

Totally agree.

Chambers Ng Robinson Davies Osho Turner Robertson, reckon they’ll all be involved, then fill it up with Giles, Nyakhuma etc

Brian Barry-Murphy:

"It's a competition that we value.

There's certain players that have played a lot of games for us in a short of space of time.

I'm conscious of the fact that they can't play them all and there will definitely be changes for that game."

Def Needs Games :

RB: Perry Ng

The full-back looked a touch rusty at Stockport after having to wait patiently for his first league start this term. A quality player on his day, who simply needs time on the pitch to sharpen up again. Has a huge role to play for City — in all competitions — this season.

Should start v Exeter

It's not always available in every country even if they say it's available for international viewers, the league cup is an example of that because someone has the rights to it here but they don't show every game, just a select couple of games.

That's why I wrote what I wrote, so yes I did read the whole thread.

I wasn't having a go at anyone.

Just saw a tweet from the club yesterday that said it's available on the club TV for international viewers.

They said the same for the league cup game but it wasn't available on city tv here, I think they say it for FA cup games as well but I need ESPN+ for that & then I need them to show it. I have to have Paramount+ just to watch some league games as well if it's being shown by them.

We haven't played in this competition before so that's why I'm hoping I can watch it on city tv. Can't imagine anyone having the rights to this comp though. Then again I didn't think I wouldn't be able to watch the league cup game either.

I did feel a little attacked by the comment that I didn't read the whole thread when I had, not that it's too important. Here's hoping it works out.
