About Stockport County

Stockport had their first season in League One last season following promotion.

It was a successful season, with them finishing 3rd but losing to Leyton Orient in the play-off semi finals.

They have had a solid start to this season and sit in ahead of this match.

Club Connections

Several players have played for both clubs.

This includes Will Fish, who currently plays for us.

Anthony Pilkington is an ex-player who has also played for both.

The Opposition's Manager

Dave Challinor was appointed Stockport manager in November 2021, having also played for them.

He has achieved a huge amount of success - taking them from the National League to League One.

He also took Hartlepool back to the EFL in his previous job.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Kyle Wootton scored 11 goals in this league last season. He already has three this season.

Oliver Norwood has a huge amount of experience at a higher level, including the Premier League.

Referee

TBC.

Head To Head - last five meetings

We have only had two meetings with Stockport before, winning one and drawing the other.

These were both in the 2002/03 season.

I'm less confident than some.

I've read a few comments from people on here that watched their game at Plymouth and said that they were poor. Their manager was also scathing about them.

But because of all that, I'd expect a reaction from them.

Good news for us is Turnbull will be back and maybe Robertson.

Osho and Kellyman also obviously available to be in the matchday squad for the first time.

The main Away pub in Stockport is the Nelson Tavern on Greek street which is a ten minute walk from the Ground.

The Calvert Court (Wetherspoons)
accepts Home and Away fans also, that’s located on St Petersgate.

We’ve been good so far, and when we haven’t we’ve made it difficult to score against us.

I hope we’ve practiced some attacking set pieces as in all our promotion seasons from any of the divisions, when we weren’t the team in control we were deadly on a set piece.

We’ve got our first set piece specialist in Colwill since the late great Whittingham, but before him it was McPhail getting us goals from set plays

We are in an open end on Saturday folks, forecast is showers, so be prepared. Think the last time I was in an open end with the City was Swindon (3-0) or pos Gillingham. Maybe Chasetown. lol, Getting old now and memory going.

Malik Mothersille and Lewis Fiorini - who provided an assist against Plymouth - are both pushing for recalls to the Stockport XI.

Jayden Fevrier and Nathan Lowe are both at risk of dropping down to the substitutes' bench, as is Tyler Onyango unless the Everton loanee is pushed forward into midfield.

With BBM confirming that Turnbull, Osho and Kellyman have been added to our matchday squad for tomorrow, who will be the 3 to be cut from our Plymouth matchday squad??

I remember being in a pub near the station during our first season in the basement many years ago , minding our own business and a few Stockport came in saying where's your mob , we are only here because its cardiff

That season they came down to Cardiff and came across the road at us opposite tescos in Canton but we were just young lads and not interested , these guys were bullies

So it was funny to hear Phil Suarez inform the Stockport County private coach driver at half time that his vehicle had been " extensively damaged " in the car park outside and he needed to report to reception

They had to get the train home silly fools

The obvious changes are that Perry Ng and Calum Chambers both start in defence. Ronan Kpakio and Dylan Lawlor drop to the bench. Big changes for a back line that hasn't conceded from open play all season - but these are seasoned pros coming into the team here.

Gabriel Osho is named on the Bluebirds bench for the first time, but notably there is no Omari Kellyman. Brian Barry-Murphy had urged pateience over his return to fitness, so he's clearly not ready just yet.

David Turnbull returns to the matchday squad, he takes his place on the bench.

Chambers has to be alert early to cut out what looked like a dangerous pass. He hammers it away from danger after dealing with it.

Will Fish this time has to be alert. He slides in to concede a throw-in after a threatening pass was played by the hosts.
