Incredible we didn't lose that game

Thu Aug 07, 2025 8:55 pm

I can't believe we've come away with a draw there.

First half especially, it was all Vale.

Maybe it was that our team thought they'd just turn up and win, but it was so far away from Saturday's performance.

I will take the point because we were outplayed.

But must improve in future games.

Nine days until the next league game, a lot to work on.

Trott had a good debut, but not much else to take out of that game.

Bullied off every ball.
Bagan and the colwills were shocking.

A points a point but jesus how we didn't lose that ill never know. When professional players can't take a throw in right or pass a basic ball there's no need to talk about all the other shit we done tonight. The 91st minute sub for willock just summed it up Vs a team who was div 2 last season :banghead:

Horrible performances tonight.

Wintle and Willock were a disgrace.

Defence was a over the place.

We NEED a CB with quality and Chambers at 6 or a new signing.

Port Vale were L2 last season...

Get use to it guys.

This season is going to be very hard.

Willock and tanner were dreadful

Can't believe we were so poor all over the pitch... did nothing right except keep clean sheet...a point away is a good point which in itself was down to linesman being short sighted!

Most teams are going to step up their game against us. Our home matches are going to be so important this season. We’re going to have to figure out how to win these tricky away games.

I thought we might struggle tonight away from home but not like that. We were effing terrible. Port vale outfought us, out worked us and out played us. Good wake up call for us all that we aren’t prime Brazil. We need to battle and win our right to play. New keeper looks decent but not much to say other than that really. Chambers and Willock very poor. I think lawlor is a great prospect but cannot start every game in this league he is simply not strong enough. Bbm needs to learn how to play against men as that was not good enough. How we didn’t lose that I’ll never know!

Looked slightly better when Turnball came on, but we were bullied in middle of park and our crossing was awful.

True Allan and chambers playing them both chances onside they had flagged off .

It turns out to be an excellent point.

Hopefully will reign in the loons who think we’ll get promoted or walk this lead after one decent performance.

We got away with 1 there. Port Vale the better side.

End product from Tanner and Willock in the wide areas was awful.

Salech and J.Colwill not in the game at all.

Wintle looked slow on the ball.

We struggled with any long balls and set pieces all night. Their number 22 centre back could have had a hat trick

Chambers isn't a centre back

We were up against men tonight and we couldn't handle it. The ugly stuff just isn't us. We can't do the pretty stuff that well either so I'm struggling to think this is anything other than a mid-table team.

I've said that before a ball was kicked we be lucky with mid table with this team come the end of the season. If it stays the same squad wise but others think we be up near the top. Kids Vs men this league is but no good at times like tonight but we got lucky very lucky tonight

I think there are some over reactions here. It was poor but give credit to Port Vale. Did exactly what they had to. Be aggressive and in our faces so we couldnt play. Its early days with a young team. We didn't lose but we need additions and for BBM ro be ruthless.

Totally agree we should be really happy we came away with a point, as Port Vale deserved that. I don’t know why I feel so pissed off though. I didn’t expect to hammer them, but I expected the team to put in a performance win or lose. It’s going to be a long season.

that performance could be a blessing in disguise
at least now bbm can see we need physical players for this league and window is still open

We fought today. Didn’t want to give up the point.

Men against boys literally, they wanted it more won every second ball

We were slow didn't get the ball in the box quick enough was a really poor performance

Hopefully that's a one off and we get back to business against Rotherham

Always knew tonight would be tough, a new team in the league, coming off a weekend loss, needing a big performance for their first home game.

No complaints about the pressure we were under, but when you do get into dangerous areas, good players are clinical. Some of our final balls were park level, never mind Championship standard.

Hopefully, it's just early-season rust, because we’ll need to be much better on the ball going forward.

Unless he’s being protected, I was very surprised we didn’t see Davies come on for Willock sooner.

Let’s be honest Port Vale are a poor team as well, they harried and hustled well, but didn’t have any quality on the ball.. it looked like a cup game where the lower league team just wanted it more and were prepared to do the battling and dirty stuff much more effectively than us.

Id have been gutted if a player called Deborah had scored against us!

That’s quite patronising that and based on no knowledge of Port Vale.

That's exactly as I saw it. Total overreaction, using emotive words like "disgrace". Port Vale had a plan to stop us replicating our performance against Posh and it worked. Nothing disgraceful about that and in the end we fought well to earn a point.

So many people on here are panicking because they believe we have not improved from our Bulut and Riza days. We have already shown we can play but we are a youthful team that will improve the longer we play together. Minor blips like last night are inevitable.

As long as BBM is able to strengthen certain position there is no reason to believe we will not be near the play-offs at the end of the season.

Pretty well summed up, Ned

Still early days though, and BBM will still be learning about his squad of players ‘in the pit of battle’ so to say!

Hopefully, some new players in the squad before the Rotherham game, and I don’t think we’re too far away from a side that can do well in League One even with the pressure of being ‘the big boys’ for once! :ayatollah:
