Latest on New Manager

Cardiff's board put through their recommendations for Vincent Tan's consideration following interviews with Mehmet Dalman and Ken Choo, however we were told at the time that one other potential candidate could still be in the mix.

Given that news came just a couple of days before Charlton's triumph in the League One play-off final, it seems inconceivable that candidate wasn't boyhood City fan Jones.

Jones has certainly been a contender, however the complication would clearly relate to the three years left on his deal at The Valley, which would require significant compensation for him and his backroom staff. Not to mention the fact that Charlton would be very reluctant to allow their promotion-winning manager to leave.

Why ? there's still a month untill you can sign out of contract players ? This mini window is for the bigger clubs .

I just can't see Tan ever changing his ways to be able to have a manager like Jones.

Jones would not accept interference and would want to build his own squad.

Does anyone really think Tan would change so that could happen? I definitely don't.

Was told what I posted about Buckingham and I believe it - but if they've been told they could still get Jones then it explains the delay a bit more.

The risk with that is we don't get Jones and also Buckingham gets tired of waiting and goes to Plymouth.

Had a feeling that may be the complication after reading Paul's tweet

I was always in the Jones camp at the beginning but I can't see him leaving Charlton and we may now miss out on other targets whilst we go after Jones

I feel the club are taking a big risk going down this route, we need a manager now not in another week or two were already falling behind other clubs with preparations for pre season, transfers etc

Could be why he said this.

Thers a clause in jones's contract where he can leave for us so I'm told .

Oh dear this is not a good scenario. From what I read yesterday, and from what I saw on youtube, I was really excited about Des Buckingham coming here.

If I was ever placed in a position where a club made out I was 2nd choice I would tell them where to go - and we are in danger of that - particularly as he is the favourite for the Plymouth job.

Dont get me wrong I would like Nathan Jones here too - but this is an angle the club should have resolved well before now - and now they are in danger of getting neither.

In the legal field we have a phrase. The longer you leave them the more chance there is of something going wrong - This is why I would prefer the club to be more decisive and make quicker (but good) decisions

Well yeah, it is seen as unrealistic to get a manager that's just gone up to the Championship.

Sounds from here that it could happen, hence the delay with other things.

But that doesn't mean it wasn't unrealistic - of course it was.

Certainly no need to use this as an opportunity to fire cheap shots at other well-meaning posters on here.

As for Jones, I've been consistent in saying he wouldn't be my choice but I know he's popular with a lot of our fans.

The other managers who club interviewed may go elsewhere and this new guy may not come so where would that leave us? Yes window got while before opening but what about the other things that need doing in close season? Everything be on hold until new man comes in? That's the problem with this scenario.

But why’s it a worry??

You literally just said you don’t think Tan will change, and also literally just said you believe what you posted is true. So nothing to worry about surely?

I back you, Worcester, on this one. I have always been in the NJ camp and was hoping for Charlton to lose so we may have a chance of signing him.

He is a rich man by our and his upbringing standards, so it may not be about the salary, but he'll want his team, which probably includes recruitment, coaches, and analysts. He is a workaholic and may tell a few people without his commitment where to go, he is a local lad, a city fan, an experienced EFL manager, so he instantly has credit in the bank whilst being a straight talker.

All in all, i couldn't see Tan going for him (i still don't)

You said you think he's a bit of a c**t. :laughing6:

Unrealistic to me, is someone like Cooper (which you also have said) who's more aligned to top of the championship, bottom of prem. Jones has never been unrealistic to me. Some, yourself included, have cut off any ambition with this relegation in my opinion. Others, like me, think we should be in the business of pinching promoted teams' managers, and aim for those like Challinor etc.

All opinions.

Re: “ I can Confirm Nathan Jones “

I honestly think their number 1 objective all along has been to convince Ramsey

It makes sense, Tan gets his cheap (ish) option, continuity from the end of the season, knows the set up of the club and more importantly the players that are already here, and the board will think the majority of the fans would accept him as our manager.

The sticking point/s could be he still wants to play, or at least for wales anyway, and maybe that he was vocal about a DOF being needed.

I wonder what his style of play would be like, I’m guessing he would have faith in the youth, look how old he was himself when he broke through.

This time yesterday Ramsay was 8/1 so something must have triggered that also ?

Re: “ I can Confirm Nathan Jones “

Your half way there with a manager who loves the club the city and has always wanted to manage cardiff.
He understands the fans on the terraces as a city fan bit of a seige mentality as a welsh club in an English league, men of Harlech welsh flags etc.
Warnock got all this also and understood it.
Jones was my choice before riza I hope this comes off you want someone that understands all of the above,
rather than just managing a football team and having a job.

Thanks for being the chair of the room  . I'm not being a dick, just adding an opinion.

I've been really optimistic that we would at least approach Jones. I didnt think it'd happen. Even the idea has been shot down a bit on here recently though, hasn't it?
