“ Striker Yousef Salech “

Sun May 04, 2025 11:05 am

Yousef Salech has been a rare bright spark for the Bluebirds.

Aaron Ramsey says Cardiff are bracing themselves for interest in the 23-year-old as they prepare for life in League One...

“The board are expecting offers for Yousef.”

If he is sold it’s going to feel like 2 steps back one step forward.

I'll be gutted if he's sold, I really think keeping him will be key to us pushing to go back up and the transfer fee we will probably except for him will be nothing compared to what we will get if he fires us to promotion

It seems the Hierarchy have already made up their mind to sell. Typical. If we do we have to get another striker. And what will we get for what we are prepared to pay - rubbish. Robinson and Etete will be injured within weeks. ROBBO won’t be up for the physicality of L1. Simic and Reindorff won’t be good enough. Get rid of our rubbish and loanees and give Salech more. It’s what we HAVE to do.

This will be an acid test of the board and the bollocks they spout. He clearly likes it here and scores goals in a dire team. Keep him at all costs he would be very expensive to replace and there's no chance of that.

Re: “ Striker Yousef Salech “

I watched the interview and to be fair he was asked if there would be offers, all Ramsey said was:

"Any striker who scores goals will receive offers and the club will expect that."

I don't expect Salech to stay because he's too good for League One, but the BBC are sensationalising Ramsey's quote a bit.

Build the team around him.

I think he'll stay.

Re: “ Striker Yousef Salech “

We have to try and keep Salech at all costs. As some others have said, if we get rid of the likes of Robinson etc on higher wages then I believe we should be offering Salech a higher wage. I believe his current contract runs until 2029.

At the very least the board HAVE to make an attempt to keep Salech and not just sit there, wait for offers to come in and then sell with no attempt to try and keep the boy

If we are going for it next season we HAVE TO KEEP YOUSEF SALECH NO BRAINER !!!

Re: “ Striker Yousef Salech “

Far too good to play in League One.

In a good team that plays to his strengths and creates chances, he will easily get 20 goals in a season.

We spent so long crying out for a striker, for us to finally get a good one when it’s too late.

442 or 4141 with wingers on their proper foot....Pleeeeze

That brings Davies and Ashford into the picture as well as O'Dowda in his real position

You can probably pick up an old school 442 wingers dirty cheap, as they are so out of fashion. Centre halfs can't deal with big strikers, especially if there is serious pace near them and full backs don't defend anymore so someone lining them up and going around them instead of stopping, putting their foot on the ball and passing it back will be a total shock.

I doubt he is on a lot, we'll need to increase it. I think he'll stay

Would love him to stay but I'd be very surprised if he's here next season.

Not sure the fee we bought him for I think it was around 3 million but that's probably doubled now and Tan won't think twice about making a profit.

I hope I'm wrong but I think he'll be one of the first out the door.

I think Tan will want to go big, he hasn't had any success in the transfer market apart from McGuiness. £3mill profit barely makes up for the over pay on Daland.

Has only been in country 3months
So no hurry for him to move on in fact could be massive mistake as he's struggled a lot with the physicality of efl and div 1 is supposed to be worse than championship. We all know Tan knows sfa about football but selling the one asset that we've spent many years to find is lunacy..
Besides he's indicated several times he want to stay repeating it yesterday

Why do you say the Hierarchy have already made up their mind to sell?

I agree we shouldn't be in a rush to sell and he could potentially be a £10-15 million striker.

Fans saying it would be mad to sell him now and I get that but does anyone really expect Tan to make a good decision on this one?

Like I said I hope I'm wrong but I think it's going to get alot worse, some fans think we'll bounce straight back up I think they're in for a shock next season.

The manager situation should've been sorted by now we have a huge rebuild ahead of us over the summer.

I'm sorry to say but I don't trust Tan and his lap dogs to make the right decision on anything anymore.

Keeping Salech has to be one of our 2 main objectives the other is a manager and coaching team .If we can keep him then a pacy Winger who can cross is a priority .I think Tanner with a good pre season could step up to the plate but needs work on his delivery and getting to the bye line to cross to an on rushing Salech :old:

Shouldn’t accept anything less than 10 million for him in today’s market

When have we ever undersold a player we wanted to keep under Tan?

We have got decent money for a lot of our assets. Shame is we haven’t had a huge amount of assets but that’s for a variety of reasons.

If we do manage to keep Salech Which I think we must, I'd really like to see Jay Bothroyd come in as our attacking coach - he could also help Simic, Ashford etc. Watched him several times on Sky as a pundit and he comes across as being very knowledgeable abbout the game. As a top former striker for us who still obviously has a soft spot for the club, I personally believe this would be an excellent step forward for us. Anyone else have any thoughts on this idea?

I have no doubt that Jay would improve Salech even more than he has come on already Paul, but if we were to lose him, [I believe he will stay until January to assess where we are] we could at least demand top dollar. I also think we need to see a bit of Simic this season as he has made all the right noises about helping the team and he must have something to have played and scored in CL... Could they work as a pair???

Just looking back at Salech's game time for us. For some reason, Riza didn't use Salech as a starter for 7 league games.

Within that:

- We beat Swansea with an 84th minute appearance/debut
- Beat Derby at home 2-1 with a 67th minute appearance.
- Hammered by Leeds 7-0 with a 57th minute appearance.

...which are all 'job done' or hammered. No influence from Salech.

Then we had:

- Millwall away. 2-2. Salech came on at 70 mins and scored.
- A 2-1 loss at Pompey. Came on at 73 mins
- A 1-1 draw against Bristol. Came on 71mins, scored.
- Plymouth away. Finally starts. Scores. Goutas sent off. Draw 1-1.

I can't help wonder what COULD have happened (and I don't usually think like this) if Salech got more game time. And looking back, was Riza stubborn about playing him due to someone else making the signing? All water under the bridge, but I recall Millwall absolutely collapsing after steaming ahead 2-0, Pompey were poor; we were just worse, Bristol were there for the taking and Plymouth away we were in absolute control until Goutas got a straight red.

Who knows, eh? But definitely a pivotal phase of our shambolic season.

Robinson held the starting position in this phase, averaging about 6.5/10 on fotmob in the phase. Miete also got on the pitch before Salech in 4 of those 6 games before his first start at Plymouth.

Unless stupid money comes in, I don’t think he’s going anywhere personally.

He seems very happy here, and based on his goal scoring record last season, we can command silly money.

I reckon he stays.
