The Opposition's Manager - Paul Ince

Ince has been in charge of Reading since last February. Initially being manager on an interim basis, he successfully kept them in the Championship last season and was given the job permanently in May.

He has been under pressure from Reading fans recently as their form has dipped after a strong start to the season.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Tom Ince has seven goals and four assists this season in the league.

Andy Carroll and Shane Long are likely to be their strikers to start, they have six league goals between them this season.

Ex-Cardiff City player Junior Hoilett will probably start for the visitors.

Re: LATEST NEWS " CARDIFF CITY v READING " MATCH THREAD

Reading manager Paul Ince views Cardiff game as an opportunity for his side to pick up points this week.

The Bluebirds face the Royals at home on Friday night, with both teams so far winless in 2023. Both, of course, will hope to change that sooner rather than later.

They have midweek games to contend with first, of course, with Cardiff travelling to Birmingham City on Tuesday and Reading taking on Rotherham United in midweek. But Ince is hopeful of getting points from his upcoming games amid a packed schedule.

"It's tough - we have a six and a half hour journey back from Sunderland which is not nice considering how the game went and losing in the last minute, but the lads are still positive," Ince told BBC Radio Berkshire.

"We have three games now against Rotherham, Cardiff and Blackpool where we can pick up some points. Nothing has really changed in the table, that's stayed the same. We just have an opportunity now where we can pick up some points.

"They're all important games. We've lost one and drawn two and lost two and drawn one [in the league] so it will be nice if we can pick up a win because our home form has been very good.

"But Rotherham have been to Watford and drawn so they are no pushovers. They went to Blackpool on Saturday and drew too. So it's a game where we go again. It's tough for us having gone up to Sunderland, then playing Rotherham and then going up to Cardiff - they [the EFL] are not doing us any favours, are they? But as far as I am concerned, it was a very good performance from the boys at Sunderland."

In 32 games we have kept 10 clean sheets TEN. When we got promoted under Warnock we kept 16 in 46 games.
We are not a bad side , just been so unlucky , fingers crossed we have found some goalscorers , to turn our luck around ;)

' No time to dwell - this has to be only the beginning '

Apologies for ending on what might be considered a bit of a downer, but anyone getting carried away by this win would be well advised to look at the table.

It's still pretty sobering. Yes, Cardiff's win has opened up a three-point gap over Wigan Athletic in 22nd, but the Latics still have the luxury of two games in hand.

As do Huddersfield Town and Blackpool, both of whom prop up the table on 28 points. Both of whom have also hired former Cardiff bosses in their bids to avoid the drop.

Ironically, a few may well be silently cheering on Swansea City when they host the Tangerines on Wednesday night. A Swans win would certainly ease some of the lingering concerns. But Cardiff can't count on any favours from anyone at this stage.

After seeing Blackpool hire Mick McCarthy, some will perhaps feel a little uneasy at Huddersfield's appointment of Neil Warnock, a man whose expertise in this sort of a crisis is unrivalled.

Cardiff play the Terriers on April 29 in the penultimate game of the season. It would certainly be wise to ensure the survival mission is complete by then. Dwelling on this victory would be a mistake, and that message has clearly already been drummed into the players.

"Everyone's buzzing," Ng added after the game. "But the manager's brought us back down to earth saying we need to focus on the game Friday now, so we'll enjoy it now.

"But we've got to get ready for Friday."

Paul Ince: Cardiff will be buoyant

Reading boss Paul Ince is expecting a tough test when his side come to Cardiff tomorrow.

The Royals are coming off a decent win against Rotherham, against whom they had to come from behind, while Cardiff are also coming into the game off the back of a rare victory.

“Any game for us at the moment is going to be a tough game,” said Ince. “We don’t usually have games where we’re 3-0 up and we can just breathe… they tend to be tense, nervous games!

“I don’t expect any different at Cardiff. They’re coming off the back of a 2-0 win at Birmingham, which isn’t an easy place to go. They’ll be in a buoyant mood. And they haven’t had an easy start under Lamouchi, with three away games from his first four. So they’ll want to get three points in front of their fans.

“We’re under no illusion – it’ll be a tough game. But we go in off the back of three points against Rotherham, so we’ll go in full of confidence.

“We know our away form hasn’t been great this year. That’s been about small margins. So the most important thing is that we stay in every game. As we showed against Rotherham on Tuesday, if we stay in the game, we’ve got a chance of picking up points.”

Connor Wickham is in contention for his first start after coming off the bench against Birmingham City.

As for Reading, Andy Yiadom is suspended for the trip to south Wales after picking up 10 yellow cards. Shane Long also suffered a knock in midweek and is a major doubt for the fixture. Baba Rahman will also face a late fitness test.

Should have been a huge chance.
