Sawyers

Sat Feb 11, 2023 6:52 pm

Played every minute since the new manager has arrived.

That is a big concern as far as the manager's judgment is concerned.

What can he see that I'm obviously missing?

Despite a complete overhaul this season our midfield continues to be the massive achilles heel that it's been for years and years.

We have no leader and few of the battlers we need for a relegation battle unfortunately.

Yep I noticed that.

He must see something in him that most of us don't. I'm not sure what then again I'm not sure what anyone can do with this squad.

Totally agree.

Re: Sawyers

Think he's picking on reputation atm. I've been disappointed with sawyers all season but I thought he played better when he was deeper in 2nd half

thought second half he was controlling our play, trying to pick out the runners, switching play. he looked much better alongside Wintle and Rino.

Hes been alright seems the be the only one who will hit a diaginoal pass aswell, deffo need to start Rino + Saw, it did get better when Wintle come on as well

Yes, and he seemed to wake up during the last 15 minutes and played much better then.

As others have said, if you have a solid pair like Wintle and Rinomhota it gives more freedom to a player like Sawyers/Colwill.

I’m not Sawyers biggest fan but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he improved massively once Ralls went off and Wintle and Rinomhota came on.

Re: Sawyers

Sun Feb 12, 2023 9:45 pm

I tried not to get involved in this as Ralls has turned into the new Whitts or Mozza when our fans just take them so much for granted that the abuse starts

We started the game with two CM's in Ralls and Sawyers. Lamouchi then performed a magic trick and sub'd Ralls for Wintle and Rimonhota........Now thats cheating, surely.

Oh yeah, Ojo went off and we played 4141 ala Malky, so three CM's, we matched them, although they did sit back as teams do defending a lead. The full backs pushed on and O'Dowda showed he has more in his locker than all our wide men put together and we looked dangerous.

Whether that was Sawyers moving deeper, three CM's instead of two Aging slow ones, or Boro sitting back with the plan to hit us on the break is up to conjecture.

I think Wintle and Rinohota give us more legs as the base and I would return to three center halfs and play O'Dowda and Romeo as wing backs with Robbo and Kaba so that leaves one spot as an attacking midfilder which is the only place i think he fits.

Ralls to repalce any of them after 60 mins.

This team isn't as bad as the results

I agree, particularly on the 3 centre back point.

Played well it can give you much more attacking options which is surely what we’re lacking !?

Another fantastic performance from sawyers. Controlled the game again. Proving many people see what they want to see.

He's been fantastic since Sabri came in!

Nonsense, good finish but he is the weak link in midfield. Reading and Birmingham are poor when we play against good teams we will get over run in midfield.

You said another fantastic performance. He was awful the last 3 games.

Awful first half tonight but he scored a good goal and had a good 2nd half. I honestly hope I'm wrong but against good teams we'll get destroyed with him in the engine room.

Re: Sawyers

Thought Sawyers played well and was behind us controlling possession better. Long may it continue.

Re: Sawyers

Fri Feb 17, 2023 10:43 pm

Has a nice range of passing aswell sometimes short, sometimes in front. One of the only ones who will do a diagonal pass as well. I think he's doing a good job.

Wintle and Ralls seems better further up the pitch as well.

Only thing I don't like from Sawyers was him trying to pass it into the box from not far out side the area, needs bit more practice

Re: Sawyers

Fri Feb 17, 2023 10:45 pm

Ive been disappointed with some of his performances, as I had quite high hopes that he would be pivotal to our season.

Today though, I thought he played very well. Never thought he was a confidence player, bit this performace will do him the world of good.

Re: Sawyers

Fri Feb 17, 2023 10:52 pm

Like a lot of players he looks a different player since SL came in. Second half tonight he was outstanding, getting the balls wide in the one pass rather than the awful slow play under previous managers, enjoy a good performance don't feel you have to slag off someone every game.

Re: Sawyers

Fri Feb 17, 2023 11:02 pm

Reminds me a bit like Tomlin, for 30 mins he is a passenger as it played so fast and over his head, but once it starts to slow down he comes into his own. I thought he was excellent in the second half and I was so happy when he signed, but thought we had signed a dud, happily proved wrong :occasion5:

Re: Sawyers

I’m grateful for the goal, but still don’t rate him. How many passes didn’t get to one of our players. His tackling and heading is also really weak.

You should go to specsavers, either that or you were watching a different match :banghead:

I have been very disappointed with Sawyers this season
For me though, he was very good against Reading and Lamouchi is right to have faith in him based on the last couple of games

Maybe you should if you think Sawyers is the answer after one good half in 4 games. Like I said good goal and played well 2nd half but for 3 and a half games he has been awful.

Wintle was our best player tonight, ran the midfield on his own.

I agree on wintle being mom, he was outstanding in the middle.

Re: Sawyers

last night for me we seen two different Sawyers, first half i felt he didn't offer much, struggled to get on the ball, and didn't really offer much. second half he was a different player, he was spraying the ball around, creating, moving into space, looked brilliant.

I think he comes into his own as the game goes on and more space opens up for him
