A forum for all things Cardiff City

Cardiff received approx £525,000 for the kid of Man United.
My question is apparently the kid really is that good and for me at 16 in the Championship if City had put him in the first team squad and had made a couple of starts as even sub City would of got about £2mill compensation.
We hardly ever see these kids ever play for our first team???
We here so much talk and reports.
Cardiff are getting compensation

Man United sign 16 year old Gabriele Biancheri from Cardiff. Medical passed, personal terms agreed and agreement reached between both clubs
Personal terms have been agreed and both Cardiff and United have verbally agreed, too, so it is expected he will sign on the dotted line to become a scholar at Old Trafford before penning a long-term professional contract when he turns 17 in September.
Cardiff city’s youngster Gabriele Biancheri is close to joining man united.

It's a shame this happens the big clubs can just swoop in and take talented youth off smaller clubs. Can't knock the kid tho it's a great opportunity for him but also a lot more difficult for him to break through now.

On the plus side the kid will get a great football education there and even if he don't make it with them will probably find his way at a decent level.

I think this stuff happening is a disgrace. Imo it really fucks over the clubs who develop these talents. And also more often than not doesnt benefit the player either. I think considering a club like cardiff invests so much in this player in the academy he should not be allowed to move away until they are at least 18 so that cardiff or any other club can cash in and benefit from the player, these big clubs have so much money as it is without nicking other teams best players. Fucked up system.

Football needs to take a.look at itself. The rich get richer

Should’ve taken the dead rubber games last season to give such youngsters 5-10 minutes here and there in order to stop things like this happening if we think of them so highly.
Mon Jan 30, 2023 11:51 am
Can’t say I’ve heard of him, can anyone give some insight? Is he a Cardiff boy?
Can’t stand the big clubs stealing youth players for next to nothing, there should be a clause that would financially compensates us whenever a transfer fee is involved or if he makes it to the first team.

I read somewhere for this reason exactly Brentford sacked their youth system and no longer have one.

Have we got a united player coming in this window after letting one of ours to them
that was my thoughts on why we let him go
if not i am shocked we are not very switched on .
Mon Jan 30, 2023 1:25 pm
What was the agreement as stated?
Mon Jan 30, 2023 4:35 pm
Hope we got a 45% sell on.

As I understand it it’s nothing to do with us being switched on. I think it’s down to the levels of academy when the kids are that age . I might be wrong but I’m sure someone on here will know.
In any event, if you were a kid of that age and a club of that size wanted to sign you what would your answer be !!?? He could set himself and his family up for life if he earns a professional first team contract with them.

We need to upgrade to a Category 1 Academy to prevent this happening again? Two of our most promising players lost already this season!

Not much we can do this, we're not the only club this happens to.
Since there were new rules to stop UK teams signing young players from the EU until they're 18, the top clubs now sign the best young players from other UK clubs and not much can be done about it by the club losing the player.

Whats the point in Accademy s if this keeps happening might as well close them down and use the money to buy players .
Mon Jan 30, 2023 10:37 pm
I agree with wez. May as well f**k the academy off if all good players dont come through to the first team whats the point. The law needs to change big time how is it fair prem clubs cant poach EU teams but can poach UK teams. What a joke.

There's no guarantee players joining Premier league teams, will succeed. If they fail they will cast a side like, a McDonald's burger bag
It's a huge step up and highly competitive

Apparently we could not as this is all in compensation package due to his age and No first team appearances.

Thanks, I hought that would be the case, bent over again by the bigger clubs. Rules need changing on this pal

I do share the sentiment that larger clubs should not be able to poach this way. But equally, as a person, I am sure we would all want to work for whoever we chose.
If GB wants to be part of the United setup we should respect his wishes and wish him all the best for the future
Others are right though. We as a club shouldn't allow this to happen. We should be one of the poachers. When we got relegated a point behind Brighton our clubs went in separate directions. Brighton are now an elite top 10 club
If our management had wanted that could have been us.
We only have ourselves to blame.
I do agree with Wez. I think we need to make a choice. We either want to be a Category 1 academy or we bin the academy off altogether. There is no point being a half way house
