NEW FANS, I think a few people are miss understanding me or I never explained what I meant after the Terrible Atmosphere once again on Saturday.

We all are at some stage, What I mean by not happy with the Some of the New Fans, are Not the ones who come to CHEER/SING/APPLAUD/STAND UP/MAKE AN ATMOSPHERE, There the ONES I LOVE OLD and NEW

I just feel thousands of the New Fans, weve suddenly gained in the last ten years, ARE NOT INTERESTED IN ANY OF THE ABOVE and THIS IS THE PROBLEM and THE NEW STADIUM WITH 23,000 PLUS IS BECOMING A MORGUE.
I FELL IN LOVE WITH CARDIFF CITY IN THE 70'S/80'S/90'S Because No matter How Many Fans we had in Attendance Home or Away CARDIFF CITY FANS WERE ONE OF THE MOST PASSIONATE IN THE COUNTRY.

I think the likes of you me, and everyone on here plays a big part in making new fans old fans.

Not really. I bet if you looked around every away game you would see very familiar faces at 99% of them. Our away support is almost a 'club' on its own and long may it continue....

The new ground and so-called 'new' fans are still gelling and things will improve as people begin to re-locate and settle to be near friends and like-minded supporters. And for a REALLY big game (and Millwal wasn't one of those in the end) I'm sure the 'old atmosphere' will re-appear.

I've said before that we are going through a bit of an 'anxiety' phase at the moment due to heightened expectations after the summer signings. We need to chill (including me on occasion) and get behind the boys the best way we can....by being voacal!!

me my dad and my step son always try to get a chant going in the family stand( iam sitting here this season because i couldnt afford the other parts of the ground and didnt want too miss this season) but we get some strange looks off people round us is this because there new fans and dont know the chants???

Totally agree there only so much we can do i try about 8 or 9 different songs and it just seems people infront and behind by the side of me would rather sit down drinking their coffee and stand up and get behind the team we need to create the atmosphere and show the support the team deserve .

i went in the family stand on sat. theres always old die hards scattered around abusing f**k off the ref, and coming out with the odd "b*stard" or too.
its because everyone is scattered. if we all chose to sit in one stand then we will be a force again im sure.
ive been in all parts of the ground and you can tell some people are itching to get a chant on. just arrange to sit together next season and we can get it on once more.
once people start realising where the singers are they will change seats i guarantee it

I agree with what people are writting on here, we are too scattered around. In Ninian Park you would get that corner in the grange end and Block A granstand singing their hearts out because it was a group of people all in together. At the new stadium there are people who want too sing but we are too far apart. You get the group in the Canton Stand trying their hardest then us in the Ninian try but straight away the stewards jump on us to sit down. Not only that but as Annis said we have some fans who dont want to sing, not only do stewards tell me to sit down but people behind me do, we feel out of place in our own stadium

I agree some of our new fans are typical of the modern day football supporters and unlike those of us who grew up with the Bluebirds through the 60's,70's & 80's where as Jonny Owen would say we were making statements, following a football team flew in the face of the establishment.

For many of us we were not allowed to play football in school, unless it was rugby football, and the local media was only to happy to sell rugby as the national sport of Wales. When I first started watching the Bluebirds I couldn't believe the atmosphere the singing, chanting and passion which transferred itself from the crowd to the team.

Unlike nowadays the only live football on the TV was the FA Cup Final and you had to rely on match of the day on BBC or the big match on ITV. The problem was they only covered a few games and the Big Match covered mainly London based teams. Nowadays hardly a night goes by without a football match on the TV, with SKY sometimes you can now choose between 6 matches on the same evening.

For the "New" supporters much of their experience of watching the game is sitting on the sofa at home, drinking tea or having a can. Whatever game you watch it is impossible to create an atmosphere on your sofa and I truely believe that this has an effect when fans who have been attracted to games by watching the game on TV simply do not know how to contribute to the occasion which a live match is.

I think the club could help with this and I think they should ask Halftime Wayne or Ali to do a short warm up routine with the fans, something simple in the 10 minutes before kick off when the teams return to the changing rooms after the pre match warm up.

To some this may sound stupid but if you think the I'LL BE THERE single will be released in a few weeks time, I think the club Halftime Wayne or Ali could try and get the crowd to sing the chorus of this song. Something like Ninian Stand against Canton Stand Against Grandstand against Grange Stand.

Besides getting the fans going before kickoff it would IMO increase interest in the record and show the new fans how singing creates atmosphere. If Wayne or Ali get it right they might get the fans signing as the teams come out, what would that be like, you never know it could be our Anthem like Z Cars at Everton or You'll Never Walk Alone at Anfield.

Just an idea but we do need to do something to help demostrate to our new generation what it means to be a football fan, and more importantly what it means to be a Bluebirds Fan.

Totally agree with most of the above, went in the canton Saturday sat pretty close to the front though and the people around me didn't even cheer when we scored the winner one guy didn't get off his iPod/iPhone all through the game playing games and his son must have been 10/11 years old spent the whole game asking to go cos Bellamy wasn't playing what's the point in being here!! Wound me right up! We don't need fans (and I use that term lightly) like that.

I've noticed it a few times that alot of kids are wearing utd, Liverpool and Chelsea tops under their jackets/jumpers and show no interest in the game. When I was I. School I was ripped apart for supporting city but I knew I was supporting my local team and my dad would have dis owned me if I'd followed anyone else. We need these new fans for their cash but I'd rather they fucked off if they are not going to show interest inevents on the pitch

I sit in block 117 in the ninan and its embaressing when the away fans are right next to you and were not singing. There's a few of us that try and get everyone singing but some of them just sit there , We want to make CCS like Ninian Park a feered place to play at and get behind the team because compared to our away support our home suport is Balls

Ths has got to change fair play. Away from home we are the most passionate and noisest fans in the country , I think starting tomorrow we shall bring that away atmosphere back home, We our club are enjoying one of our most promising years and this year we need to make that 12th man count !!

Good point Annis.Everyone has to be a "new" fan at some time.The trick is to encourage them to be regular fans and get behind the team - to be loud and proud - so that they remain supporters through the good and bad (hopefully we will never again have too many of those) times.

But if they are abused in the ground by some for being too quiet as they settle in as fans , they will just be put off and not bother coming back.They need encouragement , not abuse.

That`s as wrong as the other way around.Nearly all fans should be aware of which parts of the ground are likely to be the most vocal, have loads of fans who stand etc.so shouldn`t complain when it happens there (are the club at fault with "new" fans if they didn`t point this out to them when they bought their tickets?).
But if they bought a ticket for another part of the ground then they have every right to expect to see the game and not have someone standing in front of them all game.And I don`t mean occasional parts of it when there is a goal or an exciting bit of play - most in the stadium stand for those.
I`ve had a couple of times myself where I have been accused of not being a "real" fan by someone in front of me in the Ninian Stand for not standing up "if you hate Swansea" (I don`t , and we weren`t even playing them anyway!!). The spotty halfwit probably wasn`t even born when I went to my first City game but reckoned he knew best and was too stupid to listen to reason.

In my opinion, the new stadium is not the problem, it's the allocation of the stands.

I have said many times that the Canton stand needs switching with the Grange end, back to how it was.

At Ninian park we had the away fans in between the Grange enders and block A of the Grandstand.

The noise from that end of the ground when it was really on fire was immense!.

The Bob Bank noise would feed off the Grange end, Grandsatand block A off the Grange end and all this "Horseshoe" would be

fed by the regular taunts from and towards the away fans "sandwiched" in the middle getting verbally attacked from both

sides. The Spar familly stand was still very well populated even then, so I find it difficult they thought replicating this in

the new stadium would deter "New" fans from coming!.

You will never convince me it was down to safety, simply if you look at where the away fans are now and how many stewards

are present flanking them, coupled with the "sterile" no seating zone, is much better than at Ninian park. The only thing the

CCS does not have is the safety curtain but I would gladly accept a curtain either side of the away fans if we could return

the CCS to the layout as it was at Ninian. Let's be honest, we all miss the atmosphere as it was at N.P. and I think we

desperately need it back. Now imagine how this "Horseshoe" of noise would sound in a "Bowl" type stadium like we now have

at CCS!.

I knew what you meant Keith and 1927 meant "we were not singing".

The more I think of this the more the answer comes out. We need to get the more vocal support in one place and that ideally would be next to the away fans. I think the 2 blocks next to the away fans 116 and 117 should be made standing as well. Unfortunately I cannot see the club allowing this to happen.

He has probably done some good for the club but on this issue, I think he is a complete cock!.

Let's march and get him out of our club!.

I'm afraid you cannot tell fans how to support their team. Some new fans 'get it' and add to the atmosphere but most are there to watch the football, pure and simple. To them it's just another form of entertainment like sitting quietly and watching a film.

You will not change this and it may get worse. Each to his own I suppose.

There is no more lack of atmosphere at CCS than any other new stadium, and even some of the old ones.

It reflects the change in society and the changing demographics of the football fans. As someone pointed out earlier, most people/kids attending a football match for the first time have watched more live football on TV in one week than I saw on TV in the first 20 years of my life. They can't hear the chanting - most of it is muted out for TV audiences - (and a good job too, in many cases).

The days have gone when women were expected to stay at home to look after the kids while their men went out to the pub for 4 or 5 pints every night and all day drinking at weekends. The modern man (and this may come as a shock to some of our older contributors) actually wants to spend time with his wife and family at weekends. These families CHOOSE to come to football matches rather than stay at home to watch on TV, and have a wide range of other things they could do as a family if they wanted. These are the new breed of fans, I'm afraid, and they don't want to hear abuse or obscene chanting if possible.

Because of the cost of SKY TV over the last 20 years, these are people from a traditionally more affluent middle class background - the kind of people who can afford to pay ticket prices and spend £40+ on a new club shirt for their kids without blinking - the new breed of fans who have only started coming to games as they now feel safe in new stadiums with clean toilets and a minimal risk of hooliganism.

We have to embrace this - its the future! Not better or worse, just different!
