Most of us have the club we deserve

Sun Jan 01, 2023 9:46 pm

Not all of us. There are plenty of fans who deserve more but there’s a significant number who have the club they deserve.

We have been spoilt with success since 2000 and have become fickle, short sighted fans with no patience. We turn on any manager after a few losses, we would prefer blue in league two while selling out the ground in red in the premier league then protest when we start losing then don’t go when back in blue and cite the rebrand but funnily enough sell out in the premier league with the same owner. Then won’t go while he is our owner when we are shit again. We want good football but don’t have the patience when we are losing and shout get it forward. We want the club debt free but moan when we don’t spend money and cite a lack of ambition. We slate players wearing our shirt and make home games an effort rather than get behind the players. Players don’t want to play for us any more they certainly don’t see us as a twelfth man anymore.

We complain about everything. We are never happy. We have the club we deserve.

All the games I have been to this season the fans have got behind the team.

I don't recall any supports shouting for Morisons head after that Huddersfield game.

Fans that go and watch the team these days deserve credit and not being slagged off.

Tbh I agree with this,no1 protested to go back blue and to get tan out until the team started struggling and was in the bottom 3,and the clubs been run like shit for years but why all of a sudden do people want to protest again it’s cos the club struggling on the pitch these people in charge of our club should have gone years go simple as

So Neil another wind up topic.

What was wrong in wanting to keep our full identity and pride with it ?

Why should some dictator just come and strip us of our pride and identity?

And are we now better of on the pitch and of it than before Tan arrived??

Di you watch us much during those 4 years of NO identity?? I did I never missed a match, but absolutely hated it, but was not going to desert my club, I stayed to fight for our identity back, it’s not fully back yet .

Re: Most of us have the club we deserve

No football fans "deserve" their owner either good or bad. It's all luck. What did Wrexham, Newcastle, Man City, and Wolves fans do to deserve their owners, what did Sunderland, Pompey, Wednesday, Bradford fans do to deserve their fate?

There is no homogenous group called the fans.

Currently, there are 17K of us that can double when we are doing well and all have different points of view and reasons and commitments for attending.

We all know that I'd prefer to be in blue in L2 was rubbish, most of those ringleaders have left in the championship !!

All that 12th-man stuff is media bollox, when any club is doing well the crowd gets behind them, there are some exceptions, but very few players go to any club for the fans, it's just media spin.

I am utterly grateful to Vinny and fully understand we are at the behest of his plaything. But, he has made some shocking decisions recently and as a paying fan (customer) I have an opinion, most of the time it's in the pub or this forum. Great businesses pay a fortune to receive feedback on how to improve their staff and customer experience, what are we supposed to do?

Personally, I have political, social and footballing beliefs that are quite cemented and differ from many on this forum quite a bit, but this forum hasn't one voice nor do the fans.

The premier league is almost an international all-comers elite different footballing experience leaving the championship as the highest domestics league in Great Britain, the home of football, its no place for a rookie and Vinny needs calling out on this. Playing the right way with coaches and players not versed in it is even dafter.

Sorry this wasn't meant to be this long and i could go on

Absolutely nothing wrong with that Annis. You can’t possibly twist this post to something that is me defending Tan it’s not even close to that. It’s saying things are shit on and off the pitch but it’s what most of us deserve. There weren’t many who thought for blue until it became a reason not to go.

Look at Barclay as an example (only one there are many). Constant pops at the club/manager/team and uses any and every reason to but fundamentally he would be there if we were playing Man U or Arsenal in the prem.

It’s not a wind up post at all it’s my thoughts. It’s the thoughts of others too. It’s not just a cardiff thing either. Oxford fans are similar.

However, if tan said he would employ a manager of the Guardiola type and put £20 million in for players a shit load of our fans would.

I know strange one wasn’t it? Unlike our support which massively increased during the rebrand.

I was living in Cyprus and spent 6 months in Afghan during the rebrand days. But I stopped going regularly just before the FA Cup Final. I was there Black Friday. Decided on the Friday and drove 5 hours down from Anglesey with Hefin. You know full well I was a regular in the bottom two divisions. 1997 onwards I barely missed a game home or away.

I stand by my comments though.

Actually i know you were away Neil, but my point was that you never felt like I did and many others over the rebrand and never saw the week in week out abuse we suffered from the Red Brigrade.

As to crowds bigger yes the glory hunters came took their free despicable scarves and see the opposition.
I remember the reds behind me, I backed them if they were renewing the season we got relegated , they said their plans etc had changed etc etc and that they could not lol

100% agree with you on this.

It’s those fair weather / fickle fans I am on at Annis.

You aren’t fickle you have hated the rebrand and distrusted Tan the whole time after that. When you marched against the Red you did so from a position of moral authority because you were against it from the start. Same as Ian. Many were not.

On the subject of the March. I fully supported that from afar as the club was so divided because of red. I did that by sending three blue scarves I owned to city fans to wear at the March. It was people whose details I got off the messageboard.

I know he talks in riddlers , he has never stopped backing Tan or the Red but was not about during the rebrand days

:bluescarf:

You aren’t fickle you have hated the rebrand and distrusted Tan the whole time after that. When you marched against the Red you did so from a position of moral authority because you were against it from the start. Same as Ian. Many were not.

On the subject of the March. I fully supported that from afar as the club was so divided because of red. I did that by sending three blue scarves I owned to city fans to wear at the March. It was people whose details I got off the messageboard.

Cheers Neil, thank you for the Respect, it’s fully returned :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird:

I don’t think any fan base should be blackmailed like Tan attempted to do with us….do what I want or I won’t fund you? What sort of decent owner does that ffs….I guess he has his comeuppance, he has failed all over the place with shocking decisions starting with sacking malky and employing OGS, then Slade, then Harris and god knows who else. The Sala debacle being the final straw. I’m amazed we still have any fans left after the last 10 yrs….. :bluescarf:

We have had far worse owners. We have had owners who have done what Tan has done for the last year or so for their whole time all the while not paying for anything and adding debt to the club.

Tan is absolutely shocking at the moment, no one will say anything different but to say he blackmailed is false. He offered us significant amounts of investment but wanted the colours changing to red as it was his favourite / lucky colour. We said eff off he said ok then I won’t invest that money, we said oh actually we want that investment. Some pushed red or dead as an angle which Tan never did but after our trust (and other significant supported groups saying they wanted the investment he changed his mind again. Some (as mentioned earlier Annis and Ian being two) said they didn’t want it. Dave Sugarman completely stopped supporting the club.

We then got promoted due to said investment and had our highest crowds for two generations. Then we started losing and got relegated and suddenly every man and his dog was against the rebrand. Annis and Ian remained against the rebrand hence why they have a moral authority. Many were not and only wanted an excuse not to go, this became more apparent after relegation. Then thousands didn’t go because of the rebrand when on reality it was because they were glory supporters.

Me, I wasn’t arsed about the colour of the kit I wanted to see my club be successful. I did. I wasn’t arsed about the badge change under Sam either but I can understand why others would be bothered by that.

I didn’t attend any of the marches but it was such a divisive issue I wanted blue back. Also part of me wanted to see if all the clowns who said they couldn’t watch us in red (after watching us in red for two seasons) would watch us back in blue or would they find another excuse. Funnily enough they found other excuses. I bet they came back when Warnock was leading us to the premier league and in the prem.

I didn’t watch us in either of our cup finals, play off final or the premier league. The only places I’ve visited who are premier league are those who were in the bottom two leagues late 90s early 00s. I joined the RAF on 2001 and got married in 2006 and from then on hardly went as my wife worked in Specsavers and worked Saturdays.
