Exclusive: Investors circle Cardiff City and Vincent Tan 'ready to sell soon' with club losing £2m a month
[/i]By Tom Morgan[/i]

Their have been three new investors who have all shown interest in taking over the club from Vincent Tan, but no formal offers yet.

Formal offers have yet to be tabled, but Welsh club are among several Championship sides attracting attention given perceived availability

Cardiff City have received three expressions of takeover interest from potential investors convinced Vincent Tan will soon be ready to offload the club.

Formal offers have yet to be tabled, but the Welsh club are among several Championship sides attracting attention given their perceived availability amid financial pressures. Tan could be tempted by a deal, insiders believe, due to eye-watering losses at well in excess of £2million a month in the aftermath of Covid.

The club maintains, however, there has been no change in the owner's mindset since he said in 2017: "I have no plans to sell any of the clubs, but if I am offered the right price, I will certainly consider."

Cost-cutting remains the main priority for a board reeling from a 4-0 derby loss to Swansea over the weekend. A major overhaul in playing staff is expected this summer, with only Joe Ralls and potentially injured captain Sean Morison earmarked for new deals on potentially lower wages.

Friends of Tan, a Malaysian billionaire, insist he still has a love affair with Cardiff, despite the turmoil of recent years. He was understood to have played a key part in setting up a trust fund for the family of Emiliano Sala, the star signing who died tragically in a plane crash en route to Wales in January 2019.

However, there have also been several legal battles to contend with. Cardiff are awaiting the outcome of their Court of Arbitration hearing into the Sala transfer.

Tan, however, last month agreed an out of court settlement with former owner Sam Hammam, who was suing for £15m in a row over the terms of the Cardiff presidency he was given as a goodwill gesture.

Tan's business commitments have been scaled down slightly in recent years. He is now non-executive chairman of conglomerate Berjaya, having relinquished his executive role in April 2021 to focus on philanthropy.

Before Christmas, it was also reported that he is selling his superyacht, Asean Lady, which is on the market for £30million.

Re: Investors ready ?

Anyone know if these are realistic bids that have the financial clout to not only keep us going (which is what Tan is doing) but also a whole lot more to spare to enable real change and investment for the longer term ?

We've heard about similar bids before and, in reality, none of them have even got close to matching what Tan wants or meeting his criteria.

There are no bids, just 3 investors expressing an interest, because they believe Vincent Tan is ready to sell. I could even express an interest that would make it four "BIDS"

If there's truth in that article I am furious. For years Dalman kept saying we're losing £3m a month. Hence the big cost cutting that's underway. According to this article it's now in excess of £2m. Sounds like some on the board are getting paid way to much. Hopefully one of the buyers is a rich Cardiff city fan

Wouldn’t this show the cost cutting is working if we’ve reduced our losses by a third?

Are these the ones previously put out on here or is it completely new interest? But seeing as other championship clubs are in running perhaps it's just a shopping trip for money people from investment companies which seems like the norm now for taking over clubs

Ive just been told an American guy has shown interest, has asked what we want for club.

Nothing 'new' in there, if I'm reading it correctly? :?

'Expressions of interest' (assuming they have been made) are simply questions of availabilty of the club, if any individual or group are prepared to invest

We are seemingly a long way from that yet but then again, this is Cardiff City and Forever Blue's comment above is very interesting... ;)

We run at a loss because of years of mismanagement at all levels of the football club, a laughable double act of Ken Choo and Dalman at the heart of the club who have other interests and Tan's refusal to spend time and effort in getting proper football people on board. If we are running at a supposed heavy loss that he keeps plugging the gap on, then who's fault is that?

if the losses are in excess of £2m, then that means its not even a third of the budget has been cut, after years of being told how bad the finances are, it means they haven't really been addressed. 3/4 years ago i am sure Dalman was saying about us losing £3m a month

I think you’ll struggle to find many clubs that don’t run at a loss. Especially at this level. For example, Bristol made a loss of £38m last season. The concern would be if our losses are worse than most other teams. I actually don’t know whether that’s the case or not so if anyone knows how we compare to others the numbers would be appreciated.

What’s the aim though? Break even at £0 each month? Make a profit? As I’ve said to Ninian27 above I imagine every club in the Championship operates at a loss. The concern would be if the average is 500k loss a month and we’re still at £2m. I genuinely don’t have a clue what the finances of other clubs look like but as far as I know £2m loss a month might be considered “good” in the footballing world.

Ecstatic at this news. We CANNOT keep banging on about;

1. Better the Devil you know, so let's stick with the current regime

2. It puts to bed all those ridiculous statements made on here aimed at those wanting change using the old "are you going to buy the club" routine

And

3. All those posters who came on here saying "I can't see anyone queuing up at our door to buy us"

Let's qualify this. It's a newspaper report, but there's never really smoke without a little fire however tenuous, but I've always maintained there has been interest and that there are buyers out there.

Yes, a buyer may be a step back, but at the the same time it could catapult us forward.

Are you Risk averse or Risk aware is not the question, but do you have a risk appetite. To succeed you need to ha e a risk appetite, and the Regime do not have one.

How many "Expressions of Interest" have there been in Derby County but because of possible outstanding legal issues it is taking an age to move forward. I believe we have 2 outstanding legal issues with one a possible £15m negative outcome.

So I think your right Chris any movement is likely some way off.

Football league world as also picked it up.. and been said an American wanted to know selling price... but selling A football club is not an easy or quick thing to do! Particularly given who our owner is.

Oh God look at Swansea, most American investors borrow the money and try and flip based on a five year plan!
