Chelsea Club shop closed, and cn't sell tickets.

Thu Mar 10, 2022 10:49 am

The freezing of Abramovich's assets, which include Chelsea, means the club cannot sell further match tickets.

The move is intended to stop Abramovich making money from Chelsea.

The government has issued a special licence that will allow fixtures to be fulfilled, staff to be paid and existing ticket-holders to attend matches.

Season-ticket holders can still attend games for which they have tickets but the club cannot now sell any more tickets.

The club's merchandise shop will also be shut.

The government is open to considering a further addition to the special licence which will allow the sale of the club.

A condition for that to happen would be that Abramovich receives no funds.

He has previously said that proceeds of the sale would be donated to victims of war.

Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has said the government is "committed to protecting" the club.

"Football clubs are cultural assets and the bedrock of our communities," she tweeted.

"I know this brings some uncertainty, but the government will work with the league and clubs to keep football being played while ensuring sanctions hit those intended.

"Our priority is to hold those who have enabled the Putin regime to account.

They've got to be careful they dont screw Chelsea to such an extent that the club will be downgraded to a efl club? (no income lose 10k fans from match day ticket sales) who is going to pay the millions of wages and expenses .."Abramovich "?... sale put on hold and he cannot profit from sale Abramovich can just sit there and wait do nothing and let club rot..... this is going to go to court and that would mean Chelsea dropping like stone next season with players jumping ship at best..... bad times ahead for Chelsea..

What I find strange is no one as asked or said what happens about club itself? it cannot be sold at moment and Abramovich cannot get penny out of sale so what incentive has he got to sell it? Can sit on hands for months as its upto him if he applies for licence now to give club away.... would you help govmnt or premier league in this scenario by cooperating with them.

Alan my understanding is that he will have no say in the matter as all his assets have been seized and then it is up to the government if they want to sell Chelsea and they are prepared to do that as long as not a penny goes to Abromavitch!
Also for anyone who says that Abromovitch and putin dont bother with each other and never have.

The funny story is he wasn’t making money out of Chelsea as Chelsea were losing over £150mill a season.

Be interesting how they go about next season???

Chelsea Football Club has been advised that its owner Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK Government.

By virtue of his 100 per cent ownership of Chelsea FC plc and affiliated entities, Chelsea FC would normally be subject to the same sanctions regime as Mr Abramovich. However, the UK Government has issued a general licence that permits Chelsea FC to continue certain activities.

We will fulfil our men’s and women’s team fixtures today against Norwich and West Ham, respectively, and intend to engage in discussions with the UK Government regarding the scope of the licence. This will include seeking permission for the licence to be amended in order to allow the Club to operate as normal as possible. We will also be seeking guidance from the UK Government on the impact of these measures on the Chelsea Foundation and its important work in our communities.

The Club will update further when it is appropriate to do so.

Away fans can still attend as tickets will be sold by the away clubs.

The irony is he might have more money to help Putin out with.

How can they when Chelsea have to sell the tickets to the away club in the first place?

Similarly Chelsea can't sell tickets for their away matches either.

Documents published this morning by the British government accuse the Chelsea boss of having a "close relationship" with Putin.

And it also accuses him of being involved in "destabilising" Ukraine through his stake in steel manufacturers and mining company Evraz PLC.

The documents allege the firm may have provided steel to the Russian military which would have been used in the production of tanks

I don't think Abramovich is anywhere near the worst of the oligarchs and his contribution to the Ukraine emergency monies is laudable.

However, anyone claiming that he isn't or hasn't been close to Putin is simply in denial.

There are many instances of them meeting both privately and publicly. Abramovich has done very well out Putin's government even though he was closest to Yeltsin, even living in an apartment in the Kremlin during Yeltsin's time !

The big thing is that Abramovich has not said a single word against the invasion or Putin's actions. That's pretty telling and unforgivable in my eyes.

I wonder if the government be looking at the owners of other football clubs with links to tyrannical regimes who are busy sports washing their reputations, or is it only those connected to Russia?

They do.

Who said the away club would keep the money?

A Government personal has been put in charge of it all.

Obviously I’m no expert in diplomacy.

But I imagine the end game is for the oligarchs to get so annoyed with putin they “encourage” him to no longer be president.

Chelsea cannot sell match day tickets to home fans ... but away clubs can buy them?? Brentford as suspended selling their away allocation for Chelsea game until situation is clarified as they've already paid Chelsea for their 3k allocation...

Or they get together & have him taken out, some of them must have the access to him.

I find it difficult to have sympathy for Chelsea fans when they were chanting his game during the applause for Ukraine last week.

Abramovich loans Chelsea £90m PA so I wonder when that funding is removed, is it a sustainable club in its present form and for how long? And that's also accounting for TV revenue and other income streams.

They can't operate on the transfer market and won't be able to renegogiate existing contracts in the summer by the looks of things. I know we've only got scant information available but some are mooting that this could be the end of Chelsea as an elite club.

Of course, the club could be sold by the gov to a buyer with non-Russian ties and sanctions could also be lifted but I get the feeling both could take a long time. I just wonder without RA's cash support of the effect on the club.

Not that I give two F's about Chelsea tbh.

It's the oddity of Abramovic, Annis. He certainly seems to have had Chelski's best interests at heart...

His politics, I know little about, so won't comment

That changed in the 80s!

Our next away game is Reading, so Reading will get 100% of the gate receipts and we will sell the tickets to our fans on their behalf (which is why away ticket designs are always in the format of the home team’s).

When we played reading at home, we got 100% of the ticket revenue.

away club might charge an admin fee for processing the sales on behalf of the home club, but doesn’t really make sense to as there will be a reverse fixture where they get 100%.

Which is why FA cup games are evenly split as it’s luck of the draw

He’s the the guy who nominated Putin as Yeltsin’s successor and then conducted cabinet interviews on his behalf! Deserves everything he gets even if he seems to have backed off in recent years

From the Evening Standard-

What about away fans?

As it stands it would appear that the sanctions on Chelsea mean that away fans will also be unable to purchase tickets for upcoming fixtures - with Newcastle set to visit Stamford Bridge this Sunday

The Premier League are thought to be working on a solution to allow away fans to attend games at Stamford Bridge, with questions over the integrity of the competition should fans from both sides not be in attendance.

Absolutely correct. The home club receives 100% of away tickets sales minus an admin fee.
