MICK McCARTHY:

Vassell and Tomlin?

Isaac had his first 90 minutes in a couple of years on Tuesday at Leckwith and got through it OK.

Tommo, I think he is looking to come back into training next week. That’s where they are.

I think Isaac is not feeling well, like the rest of us. I might have been the conduit for that, judging by how I felt Tuesday night!

:bluebird: Team News:

A virtual full squad to pick from :thumbright: :bluebird:

Mick:” We have three injuries in total thankfully, we have a big squad and strength in depth.”

Mick: ‘We’ve got Mark McGuinness and Ciaron Brown injured already. They could be out for two or three weeks each. Both have ankle injuries that are severe enough.

"Both are ankle injuries. Both are severe enough. It could be three or four weeks.

"The two lads are saying it'll be two weeks, I hope that's the case, but we will see."

The main injury is Lee Tomlin once again and when he comes back from injury he will need to get fit.

Isaac Vassell could travel and be in the squad :bluebird:

Blackpool drew at Bristol City in their first game back in the Championship

They play Middlesbrough on Wednesday night in the first round of the Carabao Cup

Can I stream or watch the match on TV?

This is match is available on Cardiff City TV, for those outside of the UK only.

The Opposition's Manager - Neil Critchley

Blackpool appointed Neil Critchley as their Head Coach in March 2020. He only took charge of two games that season before the season was curtailed due to Covid-19.

In his first full season in charge, he lead the team to promotion from League One. They beat Lincoln City 2-1 in the play-off final, after finishing third in the league behind Peterborough and Hull. This saw Blackpool returning to the Championship after being relegated in 2015, having also been in League Two during that time.

Before taking over at Blackpool, he had been manager of Liverpool's under 23 team.

In that period, due to fixture congestion, he took charge of two of Liverpool's first team games - although it was his under 23 team playing in those games.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Jerry Yates scored 21 goals in League One last season and is definitely their main danger.

Despite reported interest from other clubs, Yates has remained at Blackpool this summer.

Previous Meeting

We beat Blackpool 3-2 in the Championship in 2015, thanks to a goal by Joe Mason and two from Eoin Doyle.

Ironically, our most famous fixtures with Blackpool also finished 3-2 - but in the Tangerine's favour in the 2010 Championship play-off final at Wembley.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Blackpool: Maxwell, Connolly, Keogh, Husband, Garbutt, James, Ward, Hamilton, Anderson, John-Jules, Yates

Cardiff City: Phillips, Ng, Flint, McGuinness, Nelson, Bagan, Pack, Ralls, Bacuna, Giles, Collins

Form - Last Three Competitive Games

Cardiff City 3-2 Sutton United
Cardiff City 1-1 Barnsley
Cardiff City 1-1 Rotherham United

Blackpool 3-0 Middlesbrough
Bristol City 1-1 Blackpool
Blackpool 2-1 Lincoln City

Match Odds

Blackpool - 23/10
Cardiff City - 5/4
Draw - 11/5

Tomlin will spend the season in the wilderness and be released next June. We should never have offered him a new contract. What a waste of money!!!!

Our transfer philosophy is f*cking bewildering.

Blackpool beat Middlesbrough 3-0 at home in the Carabao Cup tonight.

But it should be noted that neither team played their first choice, with Middlesbrough's team significantly weakened.

But I am guessing Warncok said something like I take the cup very seriously and am sending a strong team capable of winning the match etc etc before the match. Hope not a to many Middlesborough fans took him at his word and bothered to make the trip.

Blackpool last faced Cardiff City at Bloomfield Road in October 2014 in a Championship, winning 1-0 with a goal from Francois Zoko, one of only four league wins by the Seasiders that season.

Cardiff have only won two of their last 24 league visits to Blackpool (D6 L16), a 1-0 win in 2007-08 and a 2-1 victory in 2012-13.

Blackpool have won their first home league match of the season in four of the last five seasons (L1), winning 2-0 against Swindon Town last season.

The last time Blackpool hosted Cardiff in their first home league match of the season was in 2009-10, drawing 1-1 – the sides would then play the final match of that Championship season in the play-off final at Wembley, a 3-2 victory for the Tangerines.

Cardiff have only lost one of their last 12 away league games (W6 D5), going down 5-0 against Sheffield Wednesday in April.

Our transfer philosophy is f*cking bewildering.

Lee Tomlin is certainly an embarrassing situation for the club and the guy himself...

However, to say (quote) "Our transfer philosophy is f*cking bewildering" is a little wide of the mark (quite wide, actually) given the talent Mick McCarthy has brought in to the club over the summer with the only debate being whether we have a better or worse 'squad' for this season; unless, of course, you are harping back to previous years that have been and gone now...

Looking forward to your expletive-free response... :ayatollah:

"A TOUGH GAME "

MICK McCARTHY:

Blackpool?

Judging on their start. I watched the Bristol City game yesterday. They were very competitive in that.

They hit the post, they play a good brand of football, pass it out from the back, have momentum from getting promoted.

Then played Middlesbrough and bashed them 3-0!

They will be very confident. A tough game ahead.

BLACKPOOL:

Kenny Dougall is in contention to play after recovering from injury.

Daniel Gretarsson and former Bluebird Gary Madine are back in training, however it remains to be seen whether they are fit enough to be in contention.

It is better news for Kevin Stewart, who received a positive diagnosis after his injury against Manchester City in pre-season, he might be back sooner than expected.

However, Demetri Mitchell is expected to miss out due to a knee injury.

Matty Virtue is a long-term absentee owing to his ACL injury, so he will miss Cardiff's visit.
