It's a bit different this time, it's not about no pay rises they are already in place for the next 3 years, it's not about pensions or redundancy pay.

It's about cuts in services they are looking at a 25% cut in budgets which directly affects the population due to an inability to provide the services required for you home, the infrastructure of the country and a loss of emergency services, health and education.

I aint one of them but even I can see that if the October 20th Government Spending Review is implemented we will all have to settle for a poorer raft of services.

Actually, most in the public sector havnt had a payrise for the last year and have been told they won't have one for at least 2 years. Most of the public sector is understaffed anyway.

People in some parts of the public sector have everything on a plate ---great sick pay---holidays---pension and a lot of them are bloody coasting whilst we pay them by paying taxes...........as soon as one of them strike they should be sacked as they are a disgrace like these stupid cowboy 1970's unions like UNISON........joke. I work hard for my money, pay my own pension and never pretend i'm sick like these fools who use it as an 'extra holiday'.......

i worked in local government for over 5 years, it was pretty cushy there fair play, and alot of staff there take their jobs for granted, i left as i was sick of seeing people lick ass and then moving up the ladder even though they were shit at their job and also how every bugger were related and licking councillors arses, leaving for the private sector was a good move as in the private sector we have to work hard for your money and have to hit target sand budgets constantly!! But i love it!!

Not saying everybody was like this as there were some great people there but thats what my view on it was back 5-6 years ago.

But with regards to the emergency services this would be a worry if they cut back on these!!

I speak often with a senior manager in Newort CC.This person reckons they could lose up to a third of their staff and services would be unnafected.

stop talking drivel.... we have so hard in the private were the only ones who work.... bolloxs there are plenty hardworking dedicated public service workers in many fields they possibly might strike because there losing there jobs and scared. There use to be a time where workers supported each other but I'm guessing those times are gone. what a shame

Problem is, normal people in the public sector are being sacked, not these well off managers. My mam works for DWP. She's on min wage and works long hours. She isn't getting a payrise. The DWP is incredibley understaff and if the Tories succeed in making everyone jobless, then they'll head to the job centre....but they won't get help because they're sacking the people who work at the job centres and the people who help worthy people know what they are entitled to. DWP has been royally raped for years and its happening yet again. It will happen to councils next. So when there's no social workers or short supply of dinner ladies, bin men, nurses and police officers then you'll realise it isn't just the managers getting laid off, its the lowly admin assitants, fraud officers etc that are on less than 20k a year.

This comes down harsh on the likes of nurses and firemen who jobs are to save lives. I've yet to meet such a person who like them who dont take their job serious. However they are let down by their support staff and fingers mainly point at managers.

I judge the public sector by what I see. I wait along time to see my doctor or to have an appointment at the hospital. I dont recall waiting that long when I was younger. Anyone noticed their bin only gets emptied once a fortnight instead of weekly? The only time I see a policeman these days are at football matches. As you can see I dont see much public service going on.

This comes as no surprise to me these cut backs now the Conservatives and their apprentices the Liberal are in power. Personally I trust them to make the public sector more efficient than the Labour party who just created jobs to buy votes. I just wonder how the government of today is going to make the councils and public authorities comeptitive becuase that is what the Tories and their trainees are all about.

There is definately too many middle managers. There are a good 2 or 3 tiers of management that could be removed.

However, it is these same managers that will be asked to make the decisions on cuts and they will look after themselves at the expense of the administration staff who are on low wages. Unfortunately it is these workers that interact most with the public and supply services so we will suffer.

Bit naive that about the bins mate. But its a pretty good example. It DOESNT mean the binmen
are picking up less litter. It means there are less binmen, less lorries and less funds to pay for
them. Public services have been DECIMATED by successive governments. The final nail in the
coffin will be when they rip off all the workers pension rights. Smash the unions and then re-employ
everyone on minimum wage.

Try walking into a jobcentre ANYWHERE in Britain today and i'll tell you what you see when you use the
jobsearch facility "JOB SATISFIES NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE REQUIREMENTS".... The Private Sector is
raping the working classes of this country. There are still trades and professions where someone can
make a good wage. But even Electricians are under pressure now as they make it easier for East Europeans
to attain certification to work in Britain.

I would also point out that our dirty stinking disease ridden hospitals have only been like this since
PRIVATE companies were allowed to tender for the work.... pay peanuts and get monkeys is the old
adage. But British Business prefers 'pay peanuts, make more money'.

Do you REALLY want to see our Firemen and Nurses on £6.00 an hour?? The government does

The public sector covers a hell of a lot of workers across the UK in all different job roles of a widening range , from what I understand is that 1/3 rd of Govt spending is just for Welfare alone and it's this 33% that the cuts are being aimed at either in benefit reductions or DWP staff cuts . Plus you've got the PCS union aswell as the UNISON union covering the entire public sector , its the PCS workers ( the Civil servants of the UK ) that will be hardest hit again and NOT the fireman , bin men and school dinner ladies etc . A bit of give and take is required plus its worth pointing out that Blair and his Labour govt were responsible for a hell of a lot of job cuts in the DWP world a couple or so years back ensuring that the un-employed received their benefits regardless but now that Cameron wants to change things around everyone is up in arms about it . Mark Savotka is shit stirring a bit to protect his members 1st and formost and using the remainder of the Public sector as cover for this coz he knows those uneffected will support their fellow workers !

I'm in two minds about it.

The coalition are changing all the rules now regarding redundancy etc. So they are basically sacking people and then giving them a miniscule payout. There is even talk of compulsory redundancies for Armed Forces and changing the rules to give a week's wages per year served in the Military. That is hardly fair is it?

The public sector is bloated and I agree something has to be done. But, the bankers who more or less caused the mess are now getting good bonuses again and we are paying the price.
