About Watford

Watford Football Club is an English professional football club based in Watford, Hertfordshire. They play in the Championship, the second tier of English football, having been relegated from Premier League in 2020. The club recognises its foundation as 1881, aligned with that of its antecedent, Watford Rovers, and was established as Watford Football Club in 1898. After finishing the 1914–15 season as Southern League champions under the management of Harry Kent, Watford joined the Football League in 1920. The team played at several grounds in their early history, before moving to Vicarage Road in 1922. They have a long-standing rivalry with nearby club Luton Town.

Graham Taylor's tenure as manager at the club between 1977 and 1987 saw Watford rise from the fourth tier to the first. The team finished second in the First Division in 1982–83, competed in the UEFA Cup in 1983–84, and reached the 1984 FA Cup Final. Watford declined between 1987 and 1997, before Taylor returned as manager, leading the team to successive promotions from the renamed Second Division to the Premier League for one season in 1999–2000. The club played again in the highest tier in 2006–07 under Aidy Boothroyd's management, and then again from 2015 to 2020, reaching the 2019 FA Cup Final, their second FA Cup Final.

I think the next three games starting with Watford on Saturday then Stoke then Swansea will decide where we will be come the end of season three tough games if we got the nine points then I will think we will get to the play offs should the results against these teams end in draws or loses then I think that we won’t make the play offs

The Bennett injury left a big hole in that left flank. And now with Bagan out too, it'll be a difficult game for us.

Watford have more than enough quality on the wing to exploit any weaknesses.

I'm gonna go 1-1 though.

Re: TEAM NEWS " CARDIFF CITY v WATFORD " MATCH THREAD

Cardiff City will welcome back Perry Ng after the right back missed out against Huddersfield Town last Friday night.

The right back has been excellent since joining from Crewe back in January and his return will represent a big boost to Mick McCarthy in this tough fixture.

While Lee Tomlin and Jordi Osei-Tutu are both making steady returns, neither will be fit enough for this weekend. McCarthy said Osei-Tutu needs two under-23s games under his belt before making a return to first-team action, so he is not due back until April and Lee Tomlin is still quite away of from being fully fit.

Joe Bennett underwent his operation on Friday following his ACL injury, he is likely to be out between six and nine months, while Joel Bagan saw a specialist on Friday, too, to ascertain whether he needs surgery following his dislocated shoulder.

Max Watters has been omitted from the last two squads but has scored four goals in two games for the under-23s in that time and it is likely McCarthy will welcome him back into the fray.

Isaac Vassell remains a long-term absentee for City.

WATFORD:

Watford, Ben Foster could return to the squad after recovering from a broken finger sustained back in January. Manager Xisco Munoz has confirmed Daniel Bachmann will start, though.

Elsewhere, Dan Gosling and Achraf Lazaar will both undergo late fitness tests, while Nathaniel Chalobah could come back into the side after serving a two-match suspension.

Tom Cleverley is out until after the international break, while captain Troy Deeney is likely to miss out with an Achilles problem.

Christian Kabasele, Tom Dele-Bashiru and Dan Philips are all unavailable as well.

Match facts:

This is the first meeting between Cardiff and Watford at the Cardiff City Stadium since February 2019 in the Premier League, a 5-1 win for the Hornets.

Watford are looking to win three consecutive away league matches against Cardiff for the first time since September 2007.

Cardiff are unbeaten in their last 11 league matches – all under Mick McCarthy – their best run since a 13-game stretch between January and April 2018 during their last Championship promotion-winning season.

Only Norwich City (33) have won more Championship points since Xisco Muñoz’s first game in charge on Boxing Day than Watford (32).

Cardiff’s Mick McCarthy last faced Watford in 2014-15 with Ipswich, completing a league double over the Hornets.

Not a fan of this negativity towards the team. Even after our last 10 games you still think we not good enough. We are plenty good enough to win this game get in to the playoffs with games to spare.

Come Worcester get behind the team.

I don't think it's being negative on this occasion, but this is our toughest game since Mick too charge.

We're playing a team who could go in the top two with a win.

We're going to lose at some point.

If we were playing Wycombe and I predicted a defeat, I could understand being called negative.

I'll give you the tough game Ned but we are quite capable of winning this one. I will be disappointed if we lose but will be happy with a draw. I wont be surprised with a win though.
