As reported by others, I understand Cardiff City have won the race to sign Crawley Town striker Max Watters, who was a transfer target for Swansea City a few weeks ago.
£200,000 plus add in could make £500,000 with goals , promotion and appearances.

Neil Harris set to sign Max Watters from league 2 Crawley Town.
A fee of around £200,000 plus add ons, appearances, goals, promotion etc.
Looks like he is the forward that we are on the verge of signing.
Swansea City originally showed interest in Watters.
Watters was out on loan in the Northern Premier League Division One and National League South from Doncaster Rovers last season, but has quickly established himself as one of the most feared strikers in League Two following his move to the Reds.
Max James Watters is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for League Two club Crawley Town. Watters started his career playing non-league football with Thurrock, Barking and Ashford United before signing with League One side Doncaster Rovers in summer 2018.

I agree. Actually both forwards looked handy - one who played more on the right ran them ragged.

Cardiff City to pip Swansea City in striker transfer chase
By Jake Sanders
15/01/2021
Cardiff City are expected to beat off competition from a host of Championship clubs – including Swansea City – to sign Crawley Town striker Max Watters, according to Football Insider.
Watters was out on loan in the Northern Premier League Division One and National League South from Doncaster Rovers last season, but has quickly established himself as one of the most feared strikers in League Two following his move to the Reds.
The striker has notched 13 times in just 15 outings this term, finding the net once ever 79 minutes, which is the best goals per minute ratio in the division.
And Football Insider believe that Watters is in advanced talks over the possibility of moving to the Cardiff City Stadium on a permanent basis this January.

Sounds better than the committee

Hopefully more Vardy than Doyle.

Price is either
£300,000
Or
£450,000 with Vassell chucked in.

I hope people are going to give this lad a chance before moaning that we've signed a striker from league 2 instead of going for Harry Kane. At 21 and keen as mustard, he has to be a good prospect, put him straight in, he can't do any worse than the alleged strikers we have. Welcome Max.

Good point, should have beaten them to Jamel Lowe from Wigan, 8 goals this season and linked up well with Moore at Wigan. Cost them less than a million now probably worth 5m!

None of us were expecting that. Up until joining Crawley he looked like a very ordinary non league trundler but since joining them he has turned into a Vardy style goal machine. Not sure how this will go but worth taking a chance with him as he has looked very impressive recently. Fee has been quoted as anywhere between £300,000 and £1 million. I would prefer us to sign these very promising youngsters like him and Ng relatively cheaply from lower division clubs than pay a load for the likes of Vassel Glatzel etc.

Crawley forum saying £200,000, could rise to £500,000 if he does well for us

With you mate, all good players originally came from lower leagues, i will be giving him a chance, if he does well City will pay £500,000, if he fails we spent £200,000

I'm quite happy with this one. Ive watched Watters a couple of times this season, he has a great goals to games conversion rate and almost 50% of his strikes have turned into goals. He is young and has room and time to develop.
My head is saying this could lead to Glatzel leaving, which is a shame, as I really rate him. The trouble is we do not play to his strengths, and if we don't change our style of play it makes little sense of keeping him here, considering his wages.

We looked at Watters several times, decided not to have him.

Same as us with Lowe.
Suppose you said the same with Moore?
Fri Jan 15, 2021 11:44 am
Never heard of this lad but obviously his goal record is fantastic. I think it’s worth a punt as he is young and shouldn’t cost too much. I believe this will be the end of glatzel which as some of you have already said would be a bit of a shame as there’s a good player there. To be honest though that’s football and he’ll probably go on loan with an option to but to one of the smaller Bundesliga clubs.

Our scouts watched Watters three times and decided no.
good luck, you will need more than Watters to catch us.

Don’t have to catch you. Just have to get top 6 and play you in the playoffs.
Not that this will be easy.

Good to see a new player coming in but surely questions need to be asked about recruitment. Someone like Rhys Healey let go and has banged in the goals for MK Dons and Toulouse since he left. Will Watters be given a chance?

I’m hearing the same around £200,000 could rise to £500,000 if he is successful

Player of the Month in League Two for December.
£200,000 is a good price for an initial fee.
Only 21, so a good age to develop as well.
Going by the stats, he's worth the gamble for a relatively small price.
