WOW : “ DAVE JONES “

Tue Dec 22, 2020 9:00 pm

As I kept telling you all on here about DJ for years
Why we failed under DJ for 6 yrs , The truth always comes out in the end.

Having listened to the podcasts of Anthony Gerrard and Hudson, it’s really no wonder we didn’t go up under DJ.

20 minute training sessions before they complained it’s too hot and went on the piss all pre-season

Also the lack of fitness was DJ’s other problem with our players.

Total lack of respect for Cardiff v Swansea Derby game.

I remember the night before the play offs with Boro, 4 City players were out till 4am and it was well known City players were never disciplined and there was no respect.

You could see the bad attitude of Dave Jones and how it ran through on the pitch decent football yet wrong attitude lad on pitch comes from manager

Re: WOW : “ DAVE JONES “

Yep, work ethic was somewhat lacking !!

Mind you given the choice between failing in the play offs playing great football against what we’re getting now which is playing awful football and failing the playoffs I know what I’d rather!!!!!!

Surely the owners have to take the blame if the club was being run like that, who employed him ?

If the owners and directors were proper businessmen that wouldn't have happened.

So i listen to a load of different podcasts. They all say the same thing. The pre season was a piss up for the night though.. Players had to do the work in the day but could drink at night.. I had no issue with that. You could see it worked as the players bonded.

Im more suprised no one has slated malky off some of the horror stories but I suppose to some it didn't matter what he did because he won promotion

Re: WOW : “ DAVE JONES “

I remember listening to an interview with Bellamy a few weeks after Malky was appointed and he said about 3 times that it was a pleasure to play under a manager with a similar work ethic as his own.

Thinking of it now, it seems that it might have been a slight dig at DJ.

The podcast with McNaughton and Thompson basically said that DJ stated when they were on tour that NOBODY was to break the curfew and go out on the pi$$ and they said that within 10 mins of reaching the hotel about 12 of them went out and their target for the afternoon was to completely fill their tables with cider bottles.

Personally I remember some great games / goals under DJ (Leicester play off final bring one) but I agree that they often bottled it.

Imo the quality of football wasn’t as good under Malky but I have to say that there would have been absolutely no taking the pi$$ on his watch.

I’ve chatted to Bells about both managers and Bells had the highest respect for Malky and had nothing but praise for him :thumbright: :thumbright: as to DJ I am not going to repeat hmmm?

One of the more telling comments from Huds was admitting that they hit a 'brick wall' :banghead: :banghead: in November because of lack of fitness. I always hated November under DJ because we hardly ever won a match ... now I know why :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5:

He'd done a decent job at Southampton and Wolves.
Terry Burton was a, good coach as well.
It does make you wonder where it went wrong.
The casino incident was shameful.

Never actually met Dave Jones, but I must admit,he was one manager I felt had no affinity with the fans, always sounded drab to me,so was not on my Christmas car list  his attitude towards the derby spoke volumes to me,and only opened his mouth after win against the jacks, basically telling everyone who thought he didn't care enough,to f@ck off!! :old: :bluebird:

Dont agree with that. It's down to the manager to make sure a player is at peak fitness when he pulls on the shirt, he trains them every day. Players on and off field discipline is also for the club's manager to uphold. Remember the story of Alex Ferguson hauling Ryan Goggs and Lee Shsrpe out of a house party?

Couldt stand dave Jones as a person, down playing the Derby matches all the time but the football on the pitch was brilliant, he done really well with no money, kept us afloat selling players ,remember stories of us being locked out of training grounds and not having pitches for us to play on?

Bullies both so probably figures.

It’s not like Bellamy is revered through the English football world. Else why he is working abroad not in England?

Clearly the professionalism of the players has to be called into question. That comes from DJ. It’s also a massive indictment on the players.

However it can’t be denied that DJ improved players and made us a lot of money helping to sustain the club.

Imagine DJ had been able to keep all his best players and had the sort of money Malky had to spend?

Neil well done, as usual changes the topic

Malky delivered first season with no money Cup Final and play offs, with money Champions :thumbright: :bluescarf:

DJ had money beyond to give the highest wages in the Championship a fact.

6 years what did he win?

DJ disliked by fans from every club he has managed in fact hated.

Way way worse than a tw*t.

I know many of the players who played during his time and could not stand him and I even sat twice in the dressing rooms before kick off and they had NO Respect at all for him.
Jay use to ignore him.

Re: WOW : “ DAVE JONES “

Its clear he had an issue with certain players- I recall him falling out with Neil Alexander over his bullying of Rhys Weston, - and it seems he wasn't the nicest of people.

But lets give the guy some credit. He had to completely rebuild the side when he took over the club in 2005 bringing in 9 new players on free transfers and loans mainly, the club having sold Peter Thorne, Kavanagah and Jodi McDuff to name but a few towards the end of the previous season (might have been Gabbidon and Collins as well but that may have been earlier.) That season we made a reasonable challenge for the play offs and finished in our highest position for nearly thirty years.

The following season he took us to the top of the league for the first time since the days of Toshack and Clarke being eight points clear of the third place by mid October. Admittedly we faded badly - a trait of Jones in subsequent seasons particularly 2011- but he wasn't helped by key injuries and internal turmoil which coincided with us being top.

The following season we got to the Cup final for first time in 81 years

In 2010 we made the play off final

In 2011 we got to the semis. (With a side that should have been promoted at a canter- he must take a big share of the blame for that)

That's not a bad record!
Yes he had his faults but people seem to have forgotten where we had come from. He turned us into a side which had only recently spent almost the last 20 years in the lower leagues into a top Championship side. And playing attractive football as well.

Hardly changed the subject. You mentioned Bellamy. I referred to that in context replying to your post. Otherwise both my posts are firmly on topic.

Or are you going to tell me to find another forum again because I wrote something you don’t like.

I preferred DJ to Malky. If DJ had the sort of money Malky had he would have taken us up and kept us there.

Yes Malky took us to the carling cup final and play offs. Majority of the team were DJ signings alongside some very good Malky signings (Gunnarrson being one of my favourites of the last ten years). On large wages. Also in the side was Kenny Miller. 900k signing. Malky had no money?

Says a lot about Jay that.

DJ was the only manager who gave him a proper chance. Turned him into an England international and that got him a very good contract when he left the club.

Jay did nothing before us or after us. Was class for us.

Mind you with seconds of research I have found something that blows what you said out of the water.

An actual interview with Jay rather than heresay. I’ll wait for this to be edited somehow.

https:/fromtheninian.com/2019/02/11/jay-bothroyd-part-1/

Yes DJ was loved by Jay and Chops, as they were both his favourite players

I was in the dressing room before a match v Doncaster, Jay had head phones on and totally ignored DJ's speech and was dancing around with no care in the world.
DJ told him to listen but gave up.

Those two players did what ever they want.
Chops would travel night before a game to the North East and gamble till 2am.

What did DJ win after 6 yrs in charge, please answer?

Malky started with 10 players and the facts are which ever way you try to play it, success was achieved :thumbright: :thumbright:

The first season Malky had peanuts.

As to what went on behind the scenes, as I saw it first hand with DJ under the Riddler, I know how bad DJ's attitude was.
Also I can tell you now some facts in them days DJ was paying £20,000 and £25,000 a week wages and got what ever players he asked for.
DJ was lazy, terrible attitude, money beyond for new players wages, had far to control of the club, was hardly ever there for training sessions and No control of his players and disliked our fans.
I saw all the above first hand and 7 different players I knew well said it direct to me as well.
