CALLUM PATERSON: “ VERY DISAPPOINTED “

Wed Sep 30, 2020 2:17 pm

Very interesting and I also hearing as well the other day that Neil Harris said it was also out of his hands.
I just don’t know what to think??

Something is not right, it does not add up and we have just received £36mill from Sky and yet player after player is leaving, and Harris is saying I need players now in loads of different positions.

CALLUM PATERSON:

Paterson has just posted this message on Instagram: "Very disappointed that I wasn’t needed any more and now it’s time to move on".

Absolutely gutted my time at cardiff city fc is over. Very disappointed that I wasn’t needed any more and now it’s time to move on. Massive thank you to the fans who welcomed me into the club from day one. You guys made it special for me. Also big shout to the team, the best guys I’ve ever been around and I am very grateful for everything we achieved together, I wish all of you guys the best. I’ve made the best memories and some friends for life and wish everyone all the best. Thank you

I feel disappointed also and dont understand why, especially with such a low transfer fee.
Anyway all the best big man and I'm sure you will go onto bigger and better things :ayatollah:

Good luck and thanks for giving everything to the cause as well as some fantastic goal celebrations.

Your version of the Will Vaulks celebration at Barnsley still cracks me up every time I think of it!

Well the club have 2 weeks until the window shuts to sort out again another diabolical transfer window.

Quality needed in 3 positions.

Dalman and Tan very quiet again.

All down to the previous manager. What has the German brought to the party that Pato couldn't provide.?

Then there’s the injured striker and the 4 year contract for Bacuna.I could go on and on.

I'm no Paterson fan but I'd certainly rather we sold Murphy. Trouble is nobody would pay him what we are !!

Preparing for next season without parachute payments. Plus the effect of COVID. Can’t keep a benchwarmer on £20k a week.

If that's the case, another 3-4 will be going

20k a week off the wages 2 years left on his contract as he said he wasnt getting in the team frees up a wage towards a better player job done

That’s how I see it. No sentiment in football.

I understand the 'no sentiment' comments but something doesn't feel right about this. I understand it lowers the wage bill but Pato was a proven player for us and £500K seems far too low for a fee. I'm not happy about him going in all honesty. Our loss is the Owls gain for sure.

How do you know the club hasn't tried to offload Murphy instead of paterson? Getting rid of a player isn't a simple case of telling him he can go. There actually needs to be another club interested and willing to pay. The club has still got a pretty hefty wage bill with players on the bench as high earners. I think Flint is on a decent wage and he doesnt even make the match day squad! Something has got to give and unfortunately that has meant paterson leaving.

Also, I doubt murphy is on 40k a week.

The manager has to lead and inspire his people to perform

Sorry but Neil ain't got it and this fire sale is demonstrating why he was employed.

Need to remember that they've taken on his contract as well which wasnt cheap. A reduced transfer fee has probably allowed Wednesday to offset his high wages.

Signed for £10-11million,his wages are a lot closer to 40k than 20k, so he would be a lot harder to move on, as we’ve seen with bale, i don’t know the club hasn’t tried to offload him, but if they did want him out his agent would be touting him about and that’s where the rumours would come thick and fast, I just think Paterson has a bit more to give by bench warmers than Murphy

Our highest earner in the prem (not loaned players) was 30k. A few sites reporting murphy was on around 25k and Paterson 22k. I agree, paterson has got a lot more to offer. Which is why he's attracted interest and gone and murphy hasnt.

Doesnt look like we've got any youth players coming through, no real saleable players, quite a few high earners still on our books, last season of parachute payments, no income through gate receipts. Like it or not the club are trying to balance the books and that means getting rid of players. Disappointing to see Etheridge and paterson go but etheridge was our 2nd choice keeper and would have left in the summer for nothing and Paterson wasn't getting near the starting 11. Both on around 20k as well.

CALLUM PATERSON:

"Absolutely gutted my time at Cardiff City FC is over," the Scot wrote on Instagram. "Very disappointed that I wasn’t needed any more and now it’s time to move on.

"Massive thank you to the fans who welcomed me into the club from day one. You guys made it special for me.

"Also big shout to the team, the best guys I’ve ever been around and I am very grateful for everything we achieved together, I wish all of you guys the best.

"I’ve made the best memories and some friends for life and wish everyone all the best. Thank you."

In a further post, Paterson did reveal his excitement of having joined the Owls and claimed he was looking forward to "playing with a smile on my face again".

He wrote: "Absolutely buzzing to be here!

"Can’t wait to get started with this massive club and to show everyone what I can do.

"So grateful for the opportunity to be here and hopefully I can repay everyone with some goals and help get the club moving in the right direction!

"Looking forward to playing with a smile on my face again!"

Some of Paterson's former Bluebirds team-mates also took to social media to wish the towering forward farewell.

Will Vaulks wrote on Twitter: "Gutted about this, made me welcome from day one. Will miss the most miserable man in football a lot."

While Joe Bennett posted an emoji of a sad face alongside a photo of Paterson, Bruno Manga, Lee Peltier and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing during the promotion season, acknowledging he is the only player left at the club from that group.

With Paterson seemingly surplus to requirements, it remains to be seen whether Neil Harris will bring in reinforcements over the coming weeks.

The deadline for international transfers closes on Monday, October 5 at 11pm, however a domestic-only window remains open until October 16.

We said the same when Kareem Harris went to Wednesday, who scored a goal on his debut but then disappeared from sight. The only player we have let go in recent years who has gone on to improve and succeed is Ajayi now at WBA, and he was an unlikely candidate to be a late developer when we let him go.
