Sky , don't know if it's true

Fri Aug 28, 2020 9:10 am

Have sacked Phil Thompson ,mat le tissier and Charley Nicolas,to put two black presenters ,Micah Richards ,Alex Scot,it's in the daily mail,if they have done this and it's true just to pander to BLM etc I for one will get rid of all my sky , internet ,and go with someone else , like I said don't know if it's true so not jumping to conclusions

Even Stelling is apparently "considering his position" and I didn't realise he is 65.Life moves on and I guess its time for a make over.

Wow, if you're so precious that you'd leave because they dare update their panel with some new blood that dare to be black, then you need your head checked.

I think you miss the pint completely on that one, fella. It's not about black presenters coming in (plenty of those as it stands and all there on merit, including our own Sol Bamba) but more about those good presenters allegedly being pushed out

Let's wait and see what transforms and comment on what we know as fact, shall we? :thumbright:

Haha exactly. Three middle aged white men that talk their fair share of bollox are being moved on and the team being refreshed. If there were talk of three white people taking their place this post wouldn't be here. Trying to divide and make issues where there aren't any.

Refreshed is the perfect way of putting it, 2 blokes in their 60’s and one in his 50’s being replaced by 2 people in their 30’s. Football has evolved massively in the past 30 years, if you want the best analysis you hire people who understand the current game. Also Alex Scott is a fantastic commentator, I remember at the World Cup (I believe it was her) she was the only one interested in teams that weren’t England, she had stats, opinions, knowledge on all the teams she was watching unlike the rest who would speak about Sir ‘arry and “our boys” for 90mins and occasionally remember there was a game in the background.

Yes she is great. I'm more annoyed by the fact that Merson seems to be staying, that guy can't string two sentences together, absolute joke.

Alex Scott is quality I like Dion Dublin on Football Focus also, Tbf as long as any pundit is there on their merits race shouldn't come in to it.

There are good and bad pundits of both black and white, Garth Crooks (black) is dreadfull as was Ryan Mason (white), which is why I'm guessing his career in the media hasn't worked out. Clinton Morriston is a character with a good personality whilst for me Ian Wright who has been talking a lot about all this is awful and should concentrate on better himself rather than worrying about everyone else.

Let Tiss, Thommo and Nicholas have run their course fresh blood is probably needed but then that is just as bad as racism in some respects by being ageist.

I agree about Crooks and Wright, awful pundits.

You make a good point about the ageism aspect of it, be interesting to hear from the three that are leaving.

If they got rid of them based on their age though then it's ageist, which like racism is discriminatory so they would need a better reason than 'fresh blood' and a 'make over' even though I tend to agree with it and your comment that life moves on

Agreed mate, will be interesting to here the full story if it comes out

Original story was sky was cost cutting but think it was the ramblings of ian Wright that brought up the black issue for whatever reason! I for one will not be watching the Saturday football show which is most Saturday's when at home as its very good viewing..... but with people I find boring to listen to especially the "non Male person" I shall not be watching it .....

sacked scott minto aswell, although he did league one and two on the tv, he was moved there after sky lost its la liga coverage i believe

Re: Sky , don't know if it's true

They need Jeff Stelling to stay, because he's what that show is all about. A top class presenter.

Whether I continue to watch depends on who regularly replaces Thompson, Nicholas and Le Tissier.

If they had a studio of Paul Merson, Alan McInally, Chris Kamara and perhaps a different guest each week then I think that would work. Guests could include Alex Scott, Sue Smith, Clinton Morrison, Micah Richards, Michelle Owen etc.

Would be even better if Sky managed to convince their regular pundits to do Soccer Saturday on a rotational basis - people like Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Graeme Souness, Jamie Redknapo etc.. They are some of the best football pundits on TV.

But, for example, if their studio was Paul Merson, Micah Richards, Sue Smith and Alex Scott then I can see people tuning into either BT Sport's or BBC Sport's TV score service instead.

In my opinion, the best two score services are currently Soccer Saturday and on Radio 5 Live (where they also have live commentary on a match with reporters all over the country at the other games). Some may decide to just listen on 5 Live.

I hope Sky get this right, because I always enjoy watching Soccer Saturday when I'm not at our match - if they get this wrong, then it simply will not be the same show anymore.

I wholeheartedly agree with your first sentence RV. In a nutshell, that’s how everything should be sorted.

Been reading story and the 3 of them had one year on contract left and was released as part of cost cutting? Listened to ian wright mouthing off about people being racist suggesting it had nothing to do with blm but then goes on to say why shouldn't black people take over from 3 white men? Find it odd that with a year left on contract and only 2 weeks to start season they are sacked and the favourites to take over are non white? Coincidence maybe but sky are pro blm if you take look at their adverts/stance on matter..

It’s no coincidence of course it’s age and colour.

I’m all for change, keeps things fresh but don’t give any new ones the positions because of their colour.

Morrison and Akinfenwa are dreadful pundits. Scott was poor to start with but has improved. Dublin a gentleman.

Going to far by promoting to many people because of their ethnicity will cause problems. If their good enough give it to them, if not don’t touch them.

Tiss, Thompson and Nicholas had run their course.

I’d like to see Chris Kamara, Dion Dublin and Roy Keane come in :ayatollah:

Yes change is good but why now when got year contract left and only 2wks yo season start? Wouldn't it be natural to not renue contracts say want new start..... but now if as expected they're replaced by two non whites (one a female) arguments will ensue over it..

Alex Wasserface good looker with 140 caps so?

Black and female. Tick. Tick.

I watched the Women's European Cup Final at the CCS a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed. However, whilst their skills and fitness were more impressive than I expected, the actual level compared to the men's game (I was lucky enough to be at the MillStad for the Real Madrid v Juventus Champions League game) is in comparable

No issue with anyone (regardless of race or colour) being employed as managers, coaches, etc. at clubs or as commentators and/or pundits within the media; but I am against 'quotas' for any job, as I firmly believe they dampen down quality and any person employed should be there on merit alone :thumbright:

Absolutely. Merit is the only indicator. Trouble is it isn't any longer ;)

Re: Sky , don't know if it's true

I've stopped watching football focus because of the likes of Alex Scott who gives her expert analysis of her days at Arsenal where she played in front of one woman and her dog, see what I did there, and her absolute lack of knowledge on the game.
Let's not kid ourselves here, its just because she is black and not because she offers anything to the programme which has gone downhill rapidly. Infact BBC has some of the worst pundits anywhere on the game.
All I want from the experts is how they see the game and not because of colour or gender which I believe we all want.

Re: Sky , don't know if it's true

The point I was making was ,if they are being replaced by two black presenters just because of pressure from the lefties and BLM it's not right ,I do like Alex Scott ,if the same thing happened to you in your job just because of external pressure you would be furious

Re: Sky , don't know if it's true

Women should commentate on women’s sport.. the pitch of voice is off putting and distracting, as with the cricket last week. Dublin is good, Scott worse than the three departures. When Stelling goes, so does the show unfortunately.
