As you say we will save a fortune in wages, prob get £1mill.

I rate him though and believe we should have two quality keepers.

Joe is def not good enough.

Reported at the time of him signing his new contract , most players are on around 20k a week these days in the championship especially a club like ours who were in tbe Premier league recently

I read he was on 8k a week, it's just hearsay as nobody knows, and I doubt if any of our players are on £20k after relegation

i agree , it looked like Smithies was on his way until Etheridge got injured last season.. had that come a week later i have no confidence we would have made the play offs with Day..

What chances has Day been given? I don't believe he's a bad keeper and is a decent back up. Very rare a keeper of Etheridges standard will want to warm a bench.

with us , i agree we havent seen a great deal of him.. but he is 30 so has been given chances elsewhere and only managed to hold a first team spot at Newport.. its if Harris thinks he is adequate is whats important though..

Similar situation to Marshall and Heaton. Both good keepers who want to be playing regular football. If he does go, hopefully it means we can bring in 1 or 2 more players. Surely we've got to be looking at £2mill plus add-ons???

Last year of his contract as well so either goes for a fee now or for nothing in the summer. Still a good keeper at this level so hopefully we don't get mugged off!

The fee probably won’t be great maybe a million maximum

If it is Birmingham last I heard they were skint

They are not skint at all , their owner is a billionaire, so they have plenty of money to spend, and our board know this, they should hold out for a lot more money than the silly prices posted on here

Governor, whatever we get some on here will slate the club for bad business without thinking whatever we get for him is a bonus, cost nothing and will leave for nothing next year!!

£8m.

The season is only 2 weeks away, hopefully Brum will pay what we want.
Tremendous keeper but we have Smithies so if they want him , let them pay.
Do they have any keepers at present?

According to the club accounts our wage bill in 2017 was £26m (it was £43m in 2018 but that was skewed by promotion bonuses)

This is a pretty blunt way of working but if you divide £26m by say 30 (the size of the squad) and you get an average of £866,666 per player per year. Divide that further by 52 and you get £16,666 as the average wage.

This isn't an exact science but as a starting point it gives an indication and it would make it highly likely a number of players are earning £20,000pw or more (for now any way)

Brum have just signed a Spanish keeper so It’s doubtful if Etheridge will join them!

I think BRUM have pulled out as the asking price was suppose to be to high?

If must be a gamble as if we’re holding out for a certain amount, we’re paying weekly wages that’s pretty much being wasted. I do agree not to be held over a barrel re the asking price but it’s a difficult one that’s for sure.
