You mean there is a lockdown still in place? ? On my rounds today,it looked very much like a normal day, people out everywhere, traffic up a considerable amount, massive queues at burger king,b&q car park full, regardless of who is in power,as you say,the people seemed to have already decided?![]()

The Welsh Labour government have an NHS budget like every other country. The people of Wales are proud that we all get FREE prescriptions. However these same people are stupid because they don't realise that this money could have been better spent investing in technology to make the NHS more efficient (in the Health last year we had to wait in a hospital bed for 2 hours while 2 nurses tried to find a hospital discharge book! I even asked them if they had ever heard of computers, in the end they made a note on a post it pad)
I'm sure I'll get slated now but wake up people, Wales' Labour NHS is not fit for purpose and that's why the lockdown is extended here.

No I don't think the money could be better spent elsewhere, its basic healthcare. South Wales in particular is one of the most socially deprived areas in Europe with high levels of sickness to match due to a number of factors including the people suffering the effects of its heavy industrial past. Now let's say for example a man has Hypertension but it could be for any illness and gets a free script for a drug to control it which costs the NHS £100 per year. This is a fictional amount as I have no idea of the actual cost. If he can't afford to pay for his script and then has a heart attack or Stroke and has to be taken to and treated in hospital it costs significantly more money for his treatment than the £100 script. Prevention is always better than cure, cheaper too I'm sure you'll agree.

It wouldn't cost £100 a year that the problem, and because it's free people will take medicines that they don't necessarily need, the wastage is unbelievable.
We probably won't agree because if people need them they are always going to vote for the free option, and let the taxpayers pay, and that's fine, people obviously look at issues through different perspectives.

563 million was the figure I found at NHS WALES and this year's budget is £8,186302.00 so over 8 billion. It's still cheaper than hospital admission. And about 90% of all prescriptions were free to kids, OAP'S, benefit claimants and pregnant women.

Quite, but the fact remains that IF those that have to take them long term or even in the short term are denied them through having to pay and being unwilling to do so or being unable to pay then the cost of hospital treatment and ongoing care SHOULD/WHEN IT BE NEEDED is still higher than the cost of long term prescriptions (prevention better than cure AGAIN). The Welsh public like it and that's democracy for you. And as I've explained more than once I was using Stroke as a single example, there are other ailments available.

people were prescribed tablets and took them long before the WAG gimmick. accepting and acting on the medical advice is the whole point of visiting doctors surely ?
btw ive never once seen any doctor or politician claim free scripts is generally cost effective your post is a first..
anyway makes zero sense to me , every single election in my lifetime has had the NHS as a major issue.. its always nurses should be paid more, not doing enough opps, not enough beds, hospitals or certain items of equipment...and the answer has never been to promise free scripts to save money not from any party.. maybe Corbyn missed a trick here ?

However these same people are stupid because they don't realise that this money could have been better spent investing in technology to make the NHS more efficient (in the Health last year we had to wait in a hospital bed for 2 hours while 2 nurses tried to find a hospital discharge book! I even asked them if they had ever heard of computers, in the end they made a note on a post it pad)
I'm sure I'll get slated now but wake up people, Wales' Labour NHS is not fit for purpose and that's why the lockdown is extended here.
So would you now like to explain exactly how that money could be better spent on technology to improve NHS efficiency? I get free (after I've paid tax for them) prescriptions and am clearly intellectually sub- normal in your book.
you don't think the prescription money could be better spent elsewhere.. ?
there was no public outcry for them to become free it was just WAG wanting to do something different.. as long as I can remember and as long as I live our NHS has and will be underfunded. the free scripts was defo one thing they didn't need to be adding to the bill..
Have you missed the line where I said £100 was a FICTIONAL AMOUNT AS I HAVE NO IDEA OF THE ACTUAL COST but you are indeed correct that it wouldn't cost £100. Because now I've looked up the cost of one year's worth of Atenolol and its £9.84 per year which is a significant saving for the taxpayer opposed to treatment for an inpatient in hospital which runs into many thousands. Do you know what Hypertension is? It's high blood pressure which if left untreated with medication causes heart attack and or Stroke among other things. Deadly and debilitating I'm sure you'll agree. I've only used Hypertension as an example as many in Wales have it. I should also mention that anyone who takes prescription medication they don't need is playing a dangerous game and I personally don't know anyone that daft. Everyone pays some form of tax therefore we are all taxpayers.
