It is worrying, seems like it's been here for months and months but in reality, it's only been a few weeks, and this is just the start of the first wave!

I think the worst is to come in the UK
I know people argue with me about a proper lockdown but it works.
Spain & Italy got it wrong and sadly paid badly for it with lives.
They told the UK learnt by our mistakes and please take our advice from our mistakes .

Probably because the people in London use the tubes still. Unless a proper lockdown is enforced I doubt the numbers will steady or drop. Unless they have a certain amount of people in tubes like say about 10 people on a tube then another 10 on the next tube and so on.

When’ it get bad worse than what it is then be to late for people to be sorry when they lose love ones / all these hospitals that being knocked up as back up - up and down the country and army being drafted in to help with ambulances and floor theatres is for a reason : so when will be people grasp they are at risks themselves and putting others at risk which won’t show for weeks to come still while there out there sharing and spreading this infectious disease ( morons won’t listen but just Stay Home stay safe )

Number of cases and deaths
As of 9am on 8 April, 282,074 tests have concluded across the UK, with 14,682 tests carried out on 7 April. Some individuals are tested more than once for clinical reasons.
232,708 people have been tested, of whom 60,773 tested positive. Today’s figure for test data does not include Charing Cross and Southampton due to a data processing delay. The tests concluded figure excludes data from Northern Ireland.
As of 5pm on 7 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 7,097 have died.

The death rate is awful no arguing with that.
But apparently the good news is the curve of infections is flattening. The numbers were doubling every 3.4 days now it is closer to 4 days. It is slow progress and it will take time for this to reflect in the death rate but that can only be achieved if we all comply with the Government guidelines and only go out when it is necessary and when you do deploy social distancing.

isnt that because Spain had it before the UK though.
The graphes they show on the daily briefing from the Gov is that we are below spain when comparing the same period. I would think that we are approaching the peak in the coming days or week while Spain are hopefully beyond the peak and on the decline. I assume Spain also had a large number of people so would have a higher death rate.
Although that graph shows China with such a low number of deaths which i cannot beleive.

The thing I find frightening is that when a person dies, it's because they have tested positive for Covid 19 and not because of Covid 19. The whole thing doesn't add up for myself and we all need answers but I doubt we will ever get them.

Could be that although a patient has Covid, the cause of death may be secondary, such as organ failure due to immune overload. Or they may have died anyway. Problem is if someone expires in an epidemic, it’s sometimes hard to know exactly how so there may be inconsistencies in reporting.
The other thing is, they’re extremely tired in the hospitals..

Yes, correct on all points!!
The deaths are sad but this will continue for 2-3 weeks but if infections don’t accelerate unexpectedly all the predictions are that we will be in a pretty good position compared to other European countries.
You simply cannot compare daily rates, it’s down to where you are in the progress of the disease and it’s accepted we haven’t peaked yet.
Spain has and its rate isn’t much lower than us still.

I really think he makes some fantastic points about the virus and maybe he is right about things he has said in the past

Every thing that has happened so far has been exactly how the government have told us this would pan out including the figures.
I trust them tbh, people need to hold their nerve and not overeact to the figures, it's what's been predicted and is what is going to happen.

agree.. we know people will get it and that people will die.. everything that's been done so far was to not overload our hospitals giving our NHS a fighting chance which is whats happened... it normally runs at 89% bed occupancy across the country and so far has not hit that figure.

The sensationalism, for me, is getting tiring, that's just my personal opinion mate, we all know what's happening, we all know what's going to happen, it need to play put now without the mass hysteria imo which isn't helpfull

UK about 70 mill, Italy 64 mill and Spain 50mill.
I still stand by UK should of listened to Italy & Spain’s advice as they had made mistakes.

Belgium is having a real hammering as well.. the numbers don't seem as big but its off a much smaller population... over 2000 deaths and a population of only 11 mill..1/6 th the size of ours..

I did know the populations but treble checked before actually posting using the UN site. worldometers and government sites ...
Spain is 46/47 mill...UK..66/67 mill...
http://data.un.org/en/iso/es.htmlregarding lockdowns its going to be months of interpreting figures before anyone can determine what was best for what country.... because each country had different amounts of people, beds , hospitals, medical staff.. but at the moment the 6 countries with the strictest lockdowns in Europe { which includes the UK } also have by far the highest deaths per million population.. cross fingers in the long run it turns out to have been the right thing to do...

Scotland death toll rises by 81
A further 81 people have died with coronavirus in Scotland, according to figures from the Scottish government.
The latest daily death toll takes the total number of deaths in the country to 447.
The total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Scotland is now 4,957, after a rise of 392 in a day.

BREAKING
Confirmed global cases pass 1.5 million
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has reached 1.5 million globally, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.
That indicates a rise of half a million in six days, after the total hit a million on Friday.
The actual number is thought to be much higher as most people experiencing mild symptoms have not been tested.
Almost 90,000 people have died globally and more than 337,000 have recovered, according to the US university's figures.
The US has the highest number of confirmed cases with more than 432,000 followed by Spain, Italy and Germany.
Italy has the highest death toll with more than 17,000 losing their lives. More than 15,000 have died in Spain and France has hit 10,000 deaths.
The UK has seen more than 7,000 deaths and has more than 60,000 confirmed cases.

Number of cases and deaths
As of 9am on 9 April, 298,169 tests have concluded across the UK, with 16,095 tests carried out on 8 April. Some individuals are tested more than once for clinical reasons.
243,421 people have been tested, of whom 65,077 tested positive. The tests concluded figure excludes data from Northern Ireland.
As of 5pm on 8 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 7,978 have died.

Global virus deaths near 100,000
Almost 96,000 people have died across the globe with coronavirus, according to statistics compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
Nearly 18,300 deaths have been recorded in Italy, 16,686 in the US - including more than 5,000 in New York city alone - and 15,447 in Spain, the university says (although its figures can vary from those issued by governments).
The true global number is likely to be higher because many countries have not included deaths outside of hospitals in their statistics.
However, it's worth noting that some experts say many of those dying with Covid-19 might have died in a short period anyway - because many victims are old, frail and have underlying health conditions.
