LAST NIGHTS TEAM WHICH STARTED V CARLISLE, WHICH MANY ON HERE SAID ARE NOT REGULAR FIRST TEAM PLAYERS.

Let’s take a look and please all comment again :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff have played just over half the season 2019-20 :bluebird: :bluebird:

I will admit that Cameron Coxe is not a regular and is new to the first team, but we have been crying out for him to be given a chance, as the team this season have produced some dire/awful games.

:bluescarf: :bluebird: " CARDIFF WON & WE ARE THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND THAT PLEASES ME " :bluebird: :bluescarf:

My point was Cardiff were playing one of the worst teams in the Football league in fact 21st in League 2, 57 positions below Cardiff City & last season Cardiff was a Premier League club. Cardiff last night conceded 3 goals and over two games 5 goals v Carlisle.

This season our first team squad has been awful in defence under Warnock & Harris.

NEIL WARNOCK & NEIL HARRIS HAVE BEEN ROTATING MANY OF THE STRIKERS & WINGERS

Sol Bamba & Aden Flint are suppose to be two of our main defenders & biggest names at Cardiff City and they both started last night.

Alex Smithies 12 first team appearances :bluebird: just been given the No 1 position by Neil Harris

Cameron Coxe: 2 first team appearances :bluebird: The fans & even our club now demanding to see some younger players feature.

Sol Bamba: 104 first team appearances :bluebird: Bamba to many the most consistent City player & the one every one has been begging to return regularly.

Aden Flint :27 first team appearances :bluebird: Our most expensive defender currently at Cardiff City & probably played the most games of any of our defenders this season 27 appearances.

Jazz Richards : 40 appearances :bluebird: Rated very highly by Neil Harris & says Jazz is a big part of his future plans this season, so far now played 5 first team games.

Will Vaulks : 11 appearances :bluebird: A Welsh International who will go and be part of the Euros this year & played 11 first team games for Cardiff this season.

Joe Ralls : 206 appearances :bluebird: Clearly a first team player & both managers rate Ralls as one of our star players and always look to start him, played 15 first team games this season.

Gavin Whyte: 19 appearances :bluebird: Started v Swansea , another international player who has so far played 19 first team games this season.

Josh Murphy: 30 appearances :bluebird: Cost Cardiff City £11million / played 11 first team games this season.

Callum Paterson:78 appearances :bluebird: Always from day one been involved around the first team including 18 appearances this season.

Danny Ward: 32 appearances :bluebird: The player many fans would rather start than Robert Glatzel and has played 12 first team games so far this season.

MANY ON HERE STUCK UP FOR THE TEAM LAST NIGHT & SAID THE MAJORITY ARE NOT FIRST TEAM CARDIFF PLAYERS.

Cardiff are just over half way through this season and the majority of City players last night have been involved in the first team.

My View/Opinion

TERRIBLE DEFENDING ONCE AGAIN BY CARDIFF / BUT THIS TIME V CARLISLE UNITED(Very worrying).

HOW THE HELL DID WE DEFEND SO BADLY v A TEAM 57 PLACES BELOW US, WHO COULD ACTUALLY GO OUT OF THE LEAGUE? ?

NEIL HARRIS FIELDED VIRTUALLY A FIRST TEAM THAT HAVE ALL PLAYED AT SOME STAGES DURING THIS SEASON IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

TONIGHT CARDIFF WERE PLAYING ONE OF THE WORST SIDES IN THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

I say it virtually every week, I dont rate Neil Harris, League 1 manager & dire football.

Harris is not the right manager if Cardiff City want to progress.

EVEN MEDIA WALES SAID LAST NIGHT :bluebird:

Team news verdict

Neil Harris said he would name an experienced side for tonight’s match and he has done just that. :thumbright: :bluebird:

Cameron Coxe is the only academy player named in the 18-strong squad as the Bluebirds name an experienced-looking side.

The big news is that Joe Ralls has returned to the fray, having missed a handful of games owing to a broken hand he sustained against Leeds United before Christmas.

He partners Joe Ralls in central midfield, with Callum Paterson employed as the bruiser just in front of them.

Josh Murphy and Gavin Whyte occupy the flanks, as they did in the first fixture between these two sides.

Sol Bamba and Aden Flint come together to form an experienced central defensive partnership, with Jazz Richards named at left back.

Alex Smithies keeps the gloves for the third game in the row.

On the bench, more experience. The likes of Junior Hoilett, Marlon Pack and Joe Bennett add real pedigree and give Neil Harris a lot of options later on, with Robert Glatzel to call upon if needed.

Another strong-looking side for the Bluebirds, they simply cannot afford to start as slowly as they did at Cardiff City Stadium last time out.

How can people say that last night wasn't the 1st team!?
Had we seen that team fielded in the championship, you wouldn't see many complaining, bar Tomlin of course...

I agree everyone has the right to have different opinions and rightly so :thumbright: :bluebird:

But many comments were virtually saying what a load of rubbish I had posted, yet the facts are here :bluebird:

Neil Harris has been rotating the first team squad and Warnock was.

The team that played last night are an experienced Championship first team.

As I ve said the main point is that Cardiff won, were they first team players,of course they were, for me the club are at a point where they can’t win with some fans no matter what, would we have chosen Harris to be manager?,I don’t think he was in many fans top choices, look at the difference between Cardiff and Swansea fans at the end of game on Sunday, all I heard was Cardiff fans moaning, whilst the jacks were singing and celebrating like they’d won,at the end of the day it was a point each, there is a lot of negativity around the club and only the club themselves can change that

We certainly put out a strong and experienced team last night. It is the cup though, and anything can happen. Plenty of us on here will remember Hereford, then a non league club, drawing with, and then beating top flight Newcastle in this competition. Even more will remember little Cardiff beating the mighty Leeds of the PL. That's what makes it an exciting competition, and we have avoided one of those cup upsets which is the main thing.

Harris made 9 changes from the scum game. So either he played his strongest team tonight or he played his strongest team Sunday. It can't be both given the amount of changes.

Everyone knows that, defensively, we were not good enough last night. But most people realise that the team wasn't our starting 11. Just because they have featured during the season doesn't mean they are first team regulars. Pretty much every player in the squad has featured at some point during the season. Doesn't mean they should be in the starting 11 more often.

Last night is the first time that back four has played together. Coxe is a youth player, Jazz has barely played for 2 seasons, Bamba has been out for a year with a serious injury and has barely played this year. Flint has been a regular though but it looks like Morrison and Nelson will be first choices at CB.

The only regular starter out of the rest of the outfield players was Ralls, and he has been out for a month or so. Vaulks, Murphy, Whyte, Ward and Patterson have mainly been used as subs since Harris came in which is the reason they all started last night. That is how the early rounds of the cup work with fringe players getting game time. Sometimes it pays off and the team gets through, but sometimes putting a team together that have not played together backfires and you get cup upsets.

Slight difference being we were a team on the up and full of confidence when we beat Leeds.

Carlisle are almost bottom of the football league they are the worst of the worst. We should be crushing teams like that easily.

My comment on the tread on Facebook:

We’ve been set up for lower league football now for a few seasons, we’ve been punching above our weight and last night and the home match both showed just that.... the players seem to be happy with playing crap football and taking the fat paycheck. Something drastic needs to happen, I agree Harris isn’t the man to take us forward, he’s not the man to keep us up either, I’d say the next couple of seasons under Harris will be the lower league places just above the relegation battle if not in it.

no mate we were under performing when we beat Leeds and sacked our manager 5 weeks later... the Leeds result probably kept him in a job a few weeks which could well have cost us automatic promotion .
might not have been as poor as Carlisle... but we are hardly like Leeds were either..

If we are to compare the team that played Sundays massive game against the jacks, and the one that played yesterdays game then there were 9 changes! That indicates a second string team to me.

3 of last nights team (Bamba, Ralls and Jazz) are still coming back from injury.
1 of last nights team is a Youth product playing his second?game for the team this season.
4 of last nights team (Pato, Whyte, Vaulks and Ward) havr spent more minutes out of the team rather than in it.
2 of last nights team (Flint and Murphy) are in a bad run of form at the moment.
That leaves 1, the keeper who up until Sunday was our second choice keeper.

Harris when he came in said he was going to give everyone a chance before selecting his first 11. Barring returning injured players, do you not think Sunday would be his first choice 11? (Harris not Warnocks 1st choice 11)

Now to last nights game,

Take a look at the highlights from last nights game.

How many minutes have those 11 players been on the pitch together as a team this season?

The first goal conceded was from a massive defensive lapse from Flint. Its happened a lot to him hence why he's been dropped from the 1st 11. The same player also went up the other end and scored 2 of our 4 goals.

The 2nd and 3rd goals conceded from Coxes position. Poor defending and losing his man twice. Now do we destroy his confidence like DJ did to Mathews? Or do we accept that he will learn and grow from this?

Finally it was a cup game, and as we all know, anything can happen.

To be fair, I expect Newcastle said the same when they played Hereford. Can't even remember what league Hereford were in, I think it was the Southern league or called something similar. Newcastle were a mid table top flight club, and not sure if you are old enough to remember their target man, Malcom Macdonald, but he was a hero up there and a Shearer type striker who expected to score a bucket load in this tie. The underdogs won after a replay. I know this was the exception rather than the norm, but in this cup absolutely anything can happen, particularly in the early rounds. I have seen a high flying City team which included the like of Toshack lose at home to Brentford, who were close to be bottom of div 4 at the time. We are through to the next round, could have been different.

Re: ' SO MANY CARDIFF FANS ARGUED LAST NIGHT '

Thu Jan 16, 2020 10:31 am

They were all part of the first team squad. Some of them even featured prominently in the Premier League last season.

They may not have started many games this season, but still part of the first team squad.

Concerning to concede three goals against a poor League Two team but I don't think that is our defence in the league.

Peltier, Morrison, Nelson and Bennett did very well against Swansea. I think that is currently our best defence. None of them started last night.

Re: ' SO MANY CARDIFF FANS ARGUED LAST NIGHT '

Nine changes, that was our back up squad and some recovering from injuries, and three that first-teamers needing game time!

DONT FORGET: A FEW PLAYERS FEATURED MANY TIMES FOR CARDIFF CITY IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE :thumbright: :bluebird:

Which ever way you want to make of it, the majority of the Cardiff players who played last night are part of our first team set up :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

The point I made was that the majority that played last night are and play regular for Cardiff in the first team, we did not put out a DVP or an Under 23's team, we put out a strong team :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

You can have 8,9 or 11 changes as Cardiff under Harris /Warnock have been rotating the first team regularly :thumbright: :bluebird:

Re: ' SO MANY CARDIFF FANS ARGUED LAST NIGHT '

Thu Jan 16, 2020 10:49 am

I saw this being argued last night and I don't really understand the argument. I think its somewhere in between. It wasnt the usual starting 11 but the concept of a "first team" has gone out of the window with managers buying players for the wrong positions who are donkeys and a new manager not having a clue. Chopping and changing is what's costing us which is why I think the argument has came about because nobody actually knows our normal first 11.

So while I agree that it was technically a first team, this would not have been a starting 11, and if we played that team in a league on their current form a lot of people would be annoyed. Though let's be honest that team last night should have won comfortably and it's actually pathetic that we barely scraped past them. Conceding 5 goals on two games to league 2 opposition is very very worrying.

So the team.

Smithies, probably played more than Etheridge this season but mostly due to Etheridges injury. As soon as Etheridge came back he was out until the recent Swansea game.

Coxe? I dont need to argue that one. Hes made a handful of appearances if that and let's be honest if he wasnt linked with Man City randomly a few years back he wouldn't be overly rated by anyone.

Bamba? How many times have we seen him this season due to his injury. Sure he was once a first name on the team sheet but I worry that hes lost it. Not starting 11 any more.

Flint I agree, hes STARTING 11. Though he should've been dropped months ago. Hopefully we see Morriosn/Nelson from now on.

Jazz Richards, sicknote who is only just starting to play. It's only a matter of time until he is injured again (unless his contract is nearly up and hes finally decided to become a footballer until a deal comes his way)

Gavin Whyte, in and out of the team never able to get a head of steam going. Loads of running but no real end product it seems. Would try him in the middle three myself.

Ralls, injured a lot it seems recently but when fit he should be first 11.

Vaulks, same as Whyte for me, in and out of the team not really showing enough to start. Seems like he doesnt know what type of player he is. Worry hes not good enough like practically all of our summer signings.

Murphy, 11 million pound on him seemed a bit too much at the time... seems even more now. In and out of the team. Isnt showing much and looks to want a move.

Paterson, cant seem to remember him starting many games this season? Seems overweight. Never really was the most talented player but full of heart. Another player who plays sporadically.

Danny ward, arguably the best "striker" in our team... as long as he comes off the bench that is. Whenever he starts he is completely anonymous. Another player who is in and out. Came on and got a few goals a few months back and hasn't taken his few starts.

So yeah, even though these players can play in the usual starting 11 sporadically, as a unit they are not the first team. Too many players who haven't played enough or arent showing what they are about against a league 2 team. Really not good enough.

It's just a strange argument to have when its neither or. Peltier, Nelson, Bennett, Hoilett, Bacuna, Pack, Tomlin and Glatzel would all be played more than most of them on that list. That's 8 players and I didnt include Laing.

It just shows the problem we have. Too many players in similar positions not good enough to nail down a place. Chopping and changing is probably why we will continue to leak goals all over the place.

I was happy with the result we are in the next round and I fancy us at Reading. It was a long trip, swirly conditions, a team lifted by the FA Cup from a lower level, like history has shown so many many times. We recovered from conceding every time they scored. Job done.

Yes some terrible defending at times, but it’s not like it’s the first time we have seen that this or last season. What is the first team? Harris is still piecing that together, and games like this help in that assessment. Yes there were many players there on show that have been/are/will be first team players, come on chaps it’s a squad game more than ever. What’s all this cackling for? We’re in the hat, a banana skin dealt with. I love the cup. Warnock didn’t appear to me to give it to much attention, Harris does judging by the players on show last night. Can’t wait for Reading

Think the argument hits our problem on the head. We have a strong squad of players but very few outstanding ones at Championship level. You could pick any 11 from 22 and the side would be good enough to stay up comfortably. But our strongest 11 - whatever that is - is a side which is not quite good enough to make the play offs.

Why are our fans the only ones to call last nights team our 1st eleven? Did any club premier or championship called their team who played in cup game 1st eleven They called them a reserve side a mixture of 1st and squad players is that not what played last night? :old: .......And nobody is saying the players last night are not in 1st team squad! but big difference between 1st eleven and 1st team squad players one plays every week others play when player injured or they play cup games ? This argument is being manipulated and twisted to suit an agenda bit like what roathy does!

Allan, I don’t get what you and a few others argued about me stating this last night?

NEIL HARRIS FIELDED VIRTUALLY A FIRST TEAM THAT HAVE ALL PLAYED AT SOME STAGES DURING THIS SEASON IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

What was wrong with that statement?

Remember Harris & Warnock rotate the first team squad all the time :bluebird:

Nobody says 1st team players didn't play last night the argument is that was not a 1st eleven that plays every league game? You like others are misrepresenting what is said! or are you saying those 11 in team last night will start on Saturday and in any other game this season...
