With Alex Smithies a more than capable deputy and Joe Day also waiting in the wings, many City supporters believe the club would be silly to turn down such a sizeable offer, especially considering there are more pressing areas of the squad which needs strengthening.
There is, of course, a lot of appreciation for Etheridge and many cite his stellar service to the club so far, but there is a realistic view from Cardiff fans regarding just how far that fee could go in terms of overhauling the squad this month.

We have seen four players leave the club this month, however.
Gary Madine had his contract terminated 18 months early with a settlement made.
Armand Traore and Brian Murphy were not offered new deals and young centre back Ciaron Brown has sealed a short-term loan deal up at Livingston until the end of the season.
The Bluebirds could also see further departures this month, with Neil Harris alluding to interest in goalkeeper Neil Etheridge and striker Omar Bogle thought to be nearing the exit door.
In terms of incomings, City have had a bid of £2.3m rejected for Wigan and Wales striker Kieffer Moore, with the club readying an improved bid.
Harris will be given some funds if he manages to sell first.

I’d snap their hand off at that. Tidy sum of money for Etheridge who isn’t the best keeper we’ve had. Harris was clever in trying to disguise why he was left out.

Great business by the club if true and good signing by Warnock. I think we looked much better at the back with Smithies in goal and Morrison/Nelson at CB yesterday so hopefully we stick with that. Club would be stupid to turn down that sort of money. Only worth it though if some of that money is used to strengthen the team in other positions.

One of those deals that would be good all round if it’s true. £7 million would be great for us and we have a great keeper In smithies and a good back up in day, West Ham get a good keeper and Etheridge gets premier league football. Win win all round
Mon Jan 13, 2020 10:45 am
For £7m we could sign a good midfielder/decent striker so I’d take the deal.
Mon Jan 13, 2020 10:50 am
Take it quick. They can’t have seen him play this season.

For once a Premier League club is in desperate need for our player, and he may keep them up, with that in mind demand £10Million!!!
Mon Jan 13, 2020 10:55 am
If this is true I'd hope for it all to be up front so we can get some decent players in straight away.
More than likely be over a few years with appearances etc
Mon Jan 13, 2020 11:04 am
are we pissed, we turned down 7 million
Mon Jan 13, 2020 11:28 am
We have a replacement already at the club in Smithies, like Etheridge but take the money its a no brainer.

Snap their hand off.

West Ham are interested in Neil Etheridge, however there are a few obstacles in the way before any transfer happens.
Darren Randolph is understood to be the first choice, with Etheridge a close second owing to the former’s injury travails.
However, reports have also linked the Irons with a move for Declan Rudd.

Our track record of doing this doesnt inspire great confidence unfortunately. All very hypothetical but if he is going as back any appearance related monies could be fanciful.
I do wonder whether our loan commitments for Niase and our fee for Bacuna were any less because we got relegated? I doubt it very much.
If anyone has any insight...

We lost out on an apparent big money offer for Zohore. Hope we don't miss out on this, if it is true. Would take it without a second thought if the club was owned by me.
Mon Jan 13, 2020 12:51 pm
I can think of only 1 reason we have not accepted in that the 7 million is dependent on whu staying up
Mon Jan 13, 2020 12:58 pm
Bite there hand off if it’s a real bid
Mon Jan 13, 2020 1:00 pm
HUGE LOSS If Etheridge Leaves. Likewise For Etheridge Because He Would Only Sit On The Bench When He Starts For Cardiff. I Mean After Everything He Has Done He Still Is Our Number 1 Keeper. We Would Not Gained Promotion Without Him.

Same here Fred, if it has too many clauses we need to be careful but £7m would be great business IF the cash is in the bank.
Mon Jan 13, 2020 1:14 pm
Probably the only player in our squad that we could get decent money for.

In the thread posted by Sven the fee is mentioned as being £3.5m. It might eventually become £7m if WHU stay up.

I don't think your opinion is going to trigger a 10 page thread of arguments!

Didn't see that, thanks Tony
I think they will stay up with Norwich, Bournemouth and Villa going down, Bit risky though

I also think WHU will stay up Jules. However didn't we miss out on £2.5m from Hull over David Marshall?

Yep so once bitten twice shy

The £7m bid is hardly, "huge," as WoL are saying. It's a third of the going rate of £20m for an average PL player these days with a year or two left on his contract. Etheridge has 18 months left on his.

True but we have as good a goalkeeper if not better in Smithies plus we also have decent cover in Day plus our best youth team player is a keeper. If the offer is £3.5 million rising to £7 million if West Ham stay up we should take it without hesitation,it's a no brainer.
