Neil Harris: I Need To Clear The Decks At Cardiff . . . Or I’ll Go The Way Of Warnock
By Graham Thomas
Neil Harris has lost patience with Cardiff City’s flops and vowed to move them on before they cost him his job.
The Bluebirds manager appears to have reached a firm conclusion on those he believes undermined his predecessor Neil Warnock, the clarity brought into sharp focus by the 6-1 humiliation at QPR on New Year’s Day.
It could now be a busier than anticipated transfer window for Harris, who clearly feels it is time to the clear the decks or risk going the way of Warnock who was sacked in November.
After a promising start under Harris, Cardiff have now won once in their last six matches and slipped to 12th in the table.
They have played 26 Championship matches this season and the win column is yet to reach double figures.
“Neil lost his job because of the performances of the players. Well, I don’t owe the group anything,” said Harris.
“I support them and if they work for me, then great. Obviously, January is a busy transfer window.
“The result was a reality check that the team that got promoted a couple of years ago isn’t the team of today. The players aren’t the same. The players are older. The group’s different.
“Ultimately, the characteristic of the group – personality-wise and the attributes to do it mentally and physically – is it there?
“January is a notoriously tough window. We were looking to try to get some players out to free up opportunities to get some in. That doesn’t change for me.
“The players have highlighted today that some of them can’t reach the standards that I demand.
“I’ve come into a group where they have a great reputation as individuals and at times as a group. Well, at times I don’t see it.
“The players need to look at themselves individually and collectively – there are some big names – and say, do they do enough? Do they want it enough? Do they do enough for the football club?”
Harris also insisted that a similar debacle would not occur again while he is Bluebirds boss.
“We have to make sure it doesn’t happen again. I can promise the fans that it won’t happen again under me,” he said.
“My teams don’t defend like that. They don’t get opened up like that. We weren’t good enough.
“I need to apologise on behalf of the group – not the players, on behalf of the group, which I’m the leader of – to our fans who have travelled at an expensive time.”

Who is going to take any of them on inflated wages...

We will now see what Neil Harris is firmly made of,,,, &, more importantly, what Intent the higher echelons at our club have???

Sounds good, but if they are on big contracts with a few seasons left to run, they won’t be going any where

They would of had relegation clauses normally 50% and would probably be on the same money now as other championship players average wage in the championship is over 20k a week these days

flip flop
huge clear out
no money
huge clear out
repeat..
not sure shoving all the blame on the players is doing him any good..
either they are not good enough and it can happen again
or
he can guarantee it wont happen again because they are actually good enough ?

Well only way to sort it out is to drop permanently the players he's referring to and keep a settled side with the ones he thinks will do the business for him with maybe putting in couple of good youngsters in squad.

well yes its no good saying these sort of things and then picking them again..
a clear out can not happen unless the club are either going to subsidise loans out or pay up contracts and bring replacements in , which flies in the face of the no money available interview..
tbh he sounds confused.

Nothing to do with the formation change then? How about "I got it wrong".

I'm pretty sure after that, he will try and get rid of some, with hopefully one or two better players in!
I will be glad when we get Ralls back!

I believe yesterdays fiasco lies firmly on his shoulders..
and would much have preferred him to accept that as his mistakes

Most in here have been expecting us to get whopped at some stage as our defending as been abysmal at times this season.
Simon Jordan said when Warnock was sacked that some senior pros were simply seeing out their contracts as it was their last big earner cos of their age....Jordan’s view was that they had downed tools this season based on the amount of effort and poor performances on the pitch ....Saturday proved him to be right.
Harris now has to deliver on sorting through squad out after this interview ....simple as.
If he doesn’t he will lose all credibility.

think you need to read what Jordan thought of Warnock again mate.
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football ... character/is how he views Warnock....so why not blame him for hole in the ozone layer while your at it..

sounds very much like sacked.

We’ve been paying over the odds for years .
Harris needs to make his mind up, he was praising them all not so long ago and said he did not need to strengthen.
It’s also his bad management.

Tbf, there were a few injuries and the formation saw out the SheffWeds game.
Thu Jan 02, 2020 4:35 pm
im sure in his interview afterwars, the interviewer said, has this made things clear now of who has to go, and NH said something along the lines of, yeah i had an idea before the game, but this is confirmed it for me
that really annoyed me, because it told me, he knows some players aint good enough, but played them anyway, and would of continued to play them if we didnt get a thrashing

Warnock always had an excuse after a loss and blamed everyone but himself. Did he sound like slade as well?
We have been due a hammering like that all season- even when warnock was here. Harris takes some of the blame as he should have switched things around sooner but the blatant weakness of this squad is due to poor recruitment by Warnock.

He will have to get the defence back in some sort of organisation for Swansea, we don't like playing against nippy little feckers that just run at us, I expect Morrison back with Nelson, bennett and Pelts, and Ralls back with one other trying to protect the centre-halves.
Probably Hoillet and Mendez if he's fit also with instruction to help the full-backs, I can see it being another tight game with maybe one goal as we will try and shut up shop as he won't want to lose.

I don't remember him parking it at the players door and threatening a clear out....
yep like all managers he had excuses though.. not sure what he would say about 6 -1 mind

I fear we will continue to be bitterly disappointed on both counts - I would just add in Harris' case that it would be unfair for us fans to expect Harris to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear - he is financially hamstrung - but the hierarchy of the club have no excuses whatsoever. Lets be fair we were fed the tripe when we were promoted to the EPL that we were spending wisely on a squad of up and coming championship players who would stand us in good stead if relegated - what happened there then other than Tan saving the majority of the TV monies and subsequent parachute payments? He has put a lot of money in to keep us afloat in the early days but when the whole picture is revealed there's a lot of money come in too that's gone where?
I am sick of seeing this great club of mine wallowing in mediocrity and the club hierarchy treating us fans like a lot of bloody mushrooms (you know - kept in the dark and fed on bullshit).
All I want for Christmas is a billionaire owner who loves the club - I'd also like a rolls Royce too but both are sadly as unlikely as Aidan Flint out sprinting my collie!!
Merry Xmas but I've no confidence at all in wishing you all a Happy Footballing 2020!!

If you know anything about championship club finances you know that most clubs run at a loss! We can cheat like other clubs have done to beat ffp but tan wont do that so it's a case of living within our means and hope he backs NH with some funds even if small amount to get in decent midfielders st least.

So do 99.9% of managers only occasionally does one admit they got tactics or team selection wrong in public...

Is that a fact?,knowing the way our club is run I’d be surprised if we had clauses, they never seem to have them when selling on players,or should I say giving away players
