Is Flint not the most dodgy player every game?

Sat Dec 21, 2019 3:23 pm

It really worried/worries me how a lot of people on here actually suggest that they would rather see Morrison leave over Flint. It’s LAUGHABLE. He is absolutely dreadful. I’m not even going to go in detail about the abysmal moments by him today. It’s happening too consistently now. Before anyone mentions the clean sheet, the cleansheet was DESPITE having Flint playing, not because he was.

Sooner Bamba is fit and Morrison can play the better, Flint is the worst player I’ve ever seen play for City in the last 10 years. He’s a living meme.

Flint made 1 mistake today, Nelson 2, bit both coped well.

It's a game of opinions....but to answer the question in the thread title.....NO.

Has Flint ever been promoted with a team? I just can't imagine a team being solid with him at the back. Looks like a mistake waiting to happen everytime it's near him. Slow on the floor, poor in possession and not aggressive enough in the air.

Worst signing for years.

i didnt understand why he even played. NH said, he picked up a knock, and its one of those where you probably are not going to be 100% right for the game. Bamba on the bench, great time to give him a run out i felt

I got slaughtered on here a couple of weeks back for suggesting that Flint only finishing in the top half of the championship once was a benchmark of his ability. He is absolutely no where near being a top championship defender. It's an horrific signing.

Don't feel secure with him in the team.

He is an average, mid table Championship player.

Like the rest of the squad.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I’m not his biggest fan but he’s just kept a clean sheet against the 3rd place team (before today). I agree he’s not brilliant but Bamba’s not fit, Morrison is injured and the youngsters are evidently not ready. Out of those options, I’d have picked Flint too, especially when you consider he’s ‘in the rhythm’ of playing so to speak.

He's becoming laughable to watch every time I see him. Why does he constantly come sprinting out of defence every time only to get the ball passed round him, it happens every bloody game and he never learns.

yes. because half our promotion team had not finished in the top half of the championship prior to coming here either...

I agree on not judging him on that record, to many factors come into play. But watching him I can see he has to many weaknesses. He would have to have a hell of a team around him to get promoted. He's not very good at much.

I prefer morrison and I preferred bamba { who knows how good he will be on returning }..but flint is not nearly as poor as people are trying to make out...another clean sheet against a good team must say something.. its 2nd tier and defenders make mistakes, they all did out there today..Nelson handled the ball and was lucky no pen..decided a player was offside who wasn't so stood with his hand in the air along with jazz..and pelts..where to start ?...but having said all that, collectively they did a job as did the PNE defenders who made an equal amount of mistakes..

Some rubbish here.

One of our players made 3-4 errors and got outsprinted by his opponent despite having a 5 yard start , dived in and missed his tackle leading to a chance for Preston

Another made 1 mistake and 1 poor pass,

Which was which ?

I’ll tell you something else, Flint is slow in the turn, what 6 ft 5 guy isn’t, but he’s not slow on the run.

Watch him when he’s coming back from corners or in a foot race with a striker instead of just assuming he’s slow cos he’s big.

He’s a decent player and gives his all every week.

The way we are playing he’s also ( after Tomlin) our biggest threat in the opponents box. Should have had a penalty today.

Overall today the defence did well as we were under a fair bit of pressure as further up the field we lost the battle.

Clean sheet and not many saves required.. it’s not the defenders ( especially the one who had the better game) we should be looking at but a slow midfield, a disinterested winger and another who can’t make a 5 yard pass and a striker who gets bullied every week.

Nelson & Flint haven’t done bad when they’ve played together. Our record has been fairly decent with that pairing and the less we mess with a settled back 4 the better.

Nelson played worse than Flint yesterday... that suicude ball deserves being dropped for

Re: Is Flint not the most dodgy player every game?

I think Flint has become the scapegoat, he wasnt to blame for a dire nil nil draw. Some would argue the defence did what they are paid to do. Although we were lucky they didn't score.
Motivation as well as ability seems to be a squad problem, you can see Flint cares unlike some of the others.

This is so frustrating. It was a poor ball for Flint, but Flint could've got to it.

For some reason Flint thought it would be best to stand there like a snowman and invite the 2 attackers to have the best opportunity to score all game. Flint could've got there EASILY and cleared it. The lack of common sense and defending instinct was concerning. The TV Camera angle may look like he didn't have time, but trust me he did. I'm not sure if you went to the game or just watched it on TV, but most people who went to the game couldn't believe Flint didn't go to the ball, he just stood there like a useless sack of potatoes.

ALSO how after the attacker shoots into Etheridge's hand, notice how EVERY Cardiff player including Nelson moans at Flint and Flint just takes it like "yeah I know my bad". Nobody has a go at Nelson.

Flint would have been taking a huge gamble going for that..it didn't look great live but worse on the highlights...Flint is actually pointing at Etheridge and verbally communicating it. Etheridge takes a few steps back expecting the back pass....so therefore Flint isn't even on his front foot moving towards the ball .{ I missed most of that as I was following the ball } all of that is very clear in the highlights..plus him getting his positioning right to the point where the shot was poor...your going to games to look for faults. and therefore seeing things to suit your agenda/list...

From my view it looked like Nelson was inviting Flint to run onto it, but was caught out then dithered and ultimately did the correct thing.

if you watch the highlights...Flint clearly points and calls for it to go to Etheridge , Etheridge retreats for the back pass, then Flint is caught not expecting , and preparing to cover a possible poor back pass or kick out..with their player in full stride { I assume to close Etheridge down } . to attack that ball from an unexpected standing start ? might have got there, but if not it was a goal..? did the correct thing..

Spot on.

That pass was fully down to Nelson.
If Flint had made the errors that Nelson did today the messageboards and social media would have been on meltdown !

Same happened with Hudson- blames for Gerard’s mistakes and Morrison, loads of unfair criticism of him when he first came.

What is it with our fans and Centre halfs ?

I think some fans are intentionally looking for anything they can find to justify their criticism of Flint.

He’s doing OK and we’ve got much bigger issues elsewhere to worry about.

And by getting himself in the right position and not diving in stopped the striker getting a decent shot in.

By the way Nelson is doing OK as well. It’s early days for him at this level and he makes some good interceptions and tackles. They are building a reasonable partnership and when we are losing the ball constantly in front of them they have a lot to do.

It's no coincidence that we are shipping goals at this level since Flint arrived.
