SOL BAMBA STARTS THIS SATURDAY :thumbright: :bluebird:

Sean Morrison is Suspended.

NEIL HARRIS:

"I’ve got a few decisions to make across the pitch. They’re good decisions to have. Good dilemmas. Madine when he’s played has done very well. He’s played in four games and we’ve had 10 points. He didn’t start at Brentford but came on and was the best player on the pitch for half an hour. Ward has played in two tough away games where he’s had to work as hard as anybody to make an impact. Glatzel too. "

"Omar Bogle too is desperate to be involved and wants to player play. We’ve got options. I’ve got combinations of players, along with Callum Paterson, that can find different ways to score goals and that’s what we have to do."

I can't get to Cardiff City Stadium, is the match on TV?

Yes, the match is live on Sky Sports.

About Preston North End

Preston North End Football Club (often shortened to The North End or PNE) is a professional football club in Preston, Lancashire, whose team currently plays in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Originally a cricket club, Preston have been based at Deepdale since 1875. The club first took up football in 1878 as a winter fitness activity and decided to focus on it in May 1880, when the football club was officially founded. Deepdale is now football's oldest ground in terms of continuous use by a major league club.

Preston North End was a founder member of the Football League in 1888. In the 1888–89 season, the team won both the inaugural league championship and the FA Cup, the latter without conceding a goal. They were the first team to achieve the "Double" in English football and, as they were unbeaten in all matches, are remembered as "The Invincibles". Preston won the league championship again in 1889–90 but their only major success since then has been their 1938 FA Cup Final victory over Huddersfield Town. The club's most famous players have been Tom Finney and Bill Shankly, who are both commemorated at Deepdale by stands named after them. Other notable players include Tommy Docherty, Alan Kelly Sr. and Graham Alexander.

Until 1961, Preston were usually members of the First Division but, having been relegated after the 1960–61 season, they have not yet returned to the top flight. They were first relegated to the Third Division after the 1969–70 season and have spent 28 of the 49 seasons since 1970 in the bottom two divisions, including a span of 19 seasons from 1981 to 1982 to 1999–2000. Preston have faced serious financial issues and were twice in danger of closure. The club is now owned by businessman Trevor Hemmings and has been established in the EFL Championship since gaining promotion in 2015.

Previous Meeting

We last played Preston in December 2017. The Championship fixture at Cardiff City Stadium finished 1-0 to the visitors, with Tom Clarke getting a late winner.

This is another tough game.

Preston are 3rd in the league, but they have only won two of their last six.

Think it will be a tight game, and hopefully we can get three points.

Saturday lunchtime kick off and live on Sky Sports.

Glatzel for the start... end the futile Madine experiment and accept we paid about 5.2mill too much and will not get a good enough tune out of him as he just is not good enough.

Defence will clearly be the biggest worry unless Bamba is fit in which case I will be intrigued how we play with what are our two quickest central defenders.

Preston have always been a fairly tough nut for us to crack although we have had some very good games with them since our promotion to the championship. I remember beating them 4-1 live on sky (people will remember Roger Johnson’s celebration and a sublime piece of skill by Whitts to set up a Michael Chopra goal). I seem to remember Nugent, back at Preston, getting a bit of a bloody nose although our keeper that day evades my memory?! Think he was Irish?

If we can get a point at Leeds, we shouldn't fear Preston, even though they are flying high at the moment. I think we are capable of beating them at home, and hoping for a City win, 3-1.

Cardiff City have failed in an appeal against Sean Morrison's sending off against Leeds.

BBC

19/12/19

The Bluebirds captain received a red card for a challenge on striker Eddie Nketiah in the closing stages of their dramatic 3-3 draw at Elland Road.

Manager Neil Harris hinted he would try and overturn the decision, claiming the foul was not dangerous.

But an FA panel agreed with referee Tony Harrington, resulting in the defender receiving a three-game ban.

It means the Championship side will be without Morrison for Saturday's visit of third-placed Preston, as well the Boxing Day home fixture with Millwall and the trip to Sheffield Wednesday three days later.

Cardiff could also be without fellow centre-back Aden Flint, with the club assessing the groin injury he picked up in the draw with Leeds.

If Flint is unavailable to face Preston, it could open the door for the return of Sol Bamba who is yet to figure under Harris and has made one substitute appearance this season since recovering from the serious knee injury he suffered in March.

I think it's 10 pts in the 4 he started,it's a good selection problem for a change, would love to see 2 up top,Madine & Glatzel, with Tomlin in behind ,I've noticed BarryWelsh88 detests Madine, even when he has played well, can't please all the people all the time I suppose  :old: :bluebird:

I detest the notion of Madine being a regular starter and any intention to make him important. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out for a player and it certainly hasn’t for Gary at Cardiff. Mind you the same could be said for Tomlin until the last few weeks but I think we all knew what Tomlin could become whereas Madine has always been a striker that has bounced around struggling northern clubs until we signed him

Match facts

Cardiff last hosted Preston in the Championship back in December 2017, losing 1-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium. They last lost consecutive home league games against them in January 2000.

Preston have won three of their last four league matches against Cardiff (L1), one more than they managed in their previous 11 games against the Bluebirds.

Having lost just once in their 10 home league games this season (W7 D2), Cardiff are looking to win three consecutive home games in the Championship since a run of seven straight victories in March 2018.

Preston have lost four of their last five away league games (W1), scoring just one goal in the process.

Cardiff playmaker Lee Tomlin has been directly involved in nine goals in his last nine league games (4 goals, 5 assists), providing an assist in each of his last four appearances.

No Championship side has scored more goals via set-pieces (inc. pens) than Preston North End this season (16).

Preston have only scored 6 goals away all season - why did so have to learn that
Can see this being a tight game and Preston nicking it just purely because we can not keep a clean sheet and don’t look solid enough.

Preston looking good

Billy Bodin with some more excellent work on the right and he sends in a deep cross to Maguire, who heads into the side-netting again. The visitors looking the more likely here.

A tremendous, marauding run from Leandro Bacuna takes him up to the edge of the box, where he is dispossessed. But the ball falls to Tomlin, who looks to pass it into the far corner, but it bends agonisingly wide!
