‘ Keogh sacked / Free Agent / Would you Sign him? ‘

Wed Oct 30, 2019 7:59 pm

For gross misconduct.. following injury sustained in crash where Tom Lawrence was drink driving. Lawrence only fined six weeks wages. Bit out of order, I say...

Would you sign him?

Re: Keogh sacked

Probably because he is out long term. Why should the club foot the wages?

But it's the very definition of unfair dismissal to treat the other two differently.

In fact it's worse, as the other two have admitted to breaking the law.

Few suggestions on twitter that maybe there was something else found in his blood... Which would make sense as I can't see an employment tribunal not laughing this out to be honest

As soon as he was out injured for so long I bet they have been looking for anyway to sack him.

Thought it would be difficult without sacking the other two but they must have found a way.

Very strange when other two were the drivers and have admitted to breaking the law. Cynically, is this Derby protecting capital transfer values of two young players? Keogh was captain so inexplicable but I wonder what else he has done to be treated so different to the other two. It can't be "right" for two who have been prosecuted for a criminal offence to have a significantly lighter punishment than one who hasn't. FA, EFL or whoever should be looking at it.

Reports are stating he was sacked for Gross Misconuct "for his part..." in the incident

Can't see that being the club seeking to make such a (previously) respected player/captain a scapegoat; but no doubt some will say other wise

Re: Keogh sacked

He was the club captain and should lead by example. Allowing them to drive drunk and also getting in a car with a drunk driver shows poor judgement.

Maybe he coerced them into racing??

Re: Keogh sacked

Reports said he could have stayed if he was willing to take a pay cut, obviously he said no.

Derby are well within there rights to release him from his contract.
He is unable to fulfil his duties because of poor judgement on his part.

I dunno these people are grown adults. It's not up to him to "let" them drive drunk.

Look I don't disagree with the sacking. But think they should have all gone

From what I’ve read he was told to take a cut in wages and refused so they pushed the outcome of the disciplinary. Either way he can’t play until December 2020

ideal world yes all 3....but the 2 that are able to play would find new clubs in January and Derby would be the losers ?

Re: Keogh sacked

Reading others comments it seems as if it's a convenient way to get a high earner with little value and now out of action off the payroll whilst not wanting to lose out on values of two younger players. Very poor and as I said earlier football authorities need to have a look. As I'm sure Keoghs legals will be doing.

Re: Keogh sacked

Wish a few of our current crop would do something stupid so we can get them off our payroll. Obviously not so they or anyone else hurt.

Re: Keogh sacked

Players are paid huge wages and part of the deal is that they sacrifice freedoms including drinking, taking drugs, speeding etc.

To be fair, many factory workers are subject to spot checks for drink and drugs. Failing a test is often a dismissible offence.

It’s hard to have sympathy for players who break the terms of their contracts.

Shifty club, that Derby. This is almost as shifty as snowgate.. fine all three or sack all three. As other people have said, Keogh was the only one who didn't break the law, yet he gets the sack.

Re: Keogh sacked

I have no sympathy for any of them. Just that the variations in punishments raises questions and the inconsistenncies seem to be explained by finance more than actions. Doesn't put Derby or more importantly football in a good light. Role models and all that.

They obviously know something that we don’t because surely they wouldn’t be dull enough to do this otherwise

It’s way more than drink driving, I put out after that it way more at the time.

Making the assumption that drugs are involved, Keogh still didn't get behind the wheel of a car and break the law drink driving whilst possibly racing his team mate. If Keogh is dismissed then stronger action should be taken against other two who I think have been incredibly lucker imo. Particularly Lawrence who was then in the Wales squad.

The maximum amount that you can be awarded as compensation for Unfair Dismissal is presently the statutory cap of £86,444, or 52 weeks gross salary- whichever is the lower. This is in addition to the basic award which can be ordered by the Tribunal of up to a maximum of £15,750.

Was the accident down to alcohol or the notorious "snow" in that neck of the woods.? :occasion5:

Normally if cannot fulfill contract through your own fault can be sacked immediately! But as others were driving is it his fault? Getting drunk may not be case for dismissal especially as other two are not sacked? Employment law says can be sacked if unable to do your job and theres no alternative one you can do inside the company obviously he cannot play football for a year + so maybe using that ... more likely its s bargaining tool to get lower settlement figure than paying contract up in full reported to be 25k week. (At employment tribunal)

apparently they offered to pay his contract minus add ons...he refused.. I doubt this would have been the case if drugs were in the equation.

as for signing him he is out until xmas 2020 and is 33...

Yes, just up Warnock's street, a player who will be injured for a year and is 33. We''ve already got Sol Bamba thanks.

My post and subject was updated by a mod, asking the question about signing him. *Clickbait*

But as I'm here, no, of course I wouldn't, I'm not the idiot you're trying to make me out to be.
