Where will we finish

Tue Jul 09, 2019 8:49 am

at the end of the 2019-20 season?
It's that time of year when we all hope for the best....great start like two years ago, proven mamager, most of the Premier Bluebirds still in the team, plenty of competition for places .....etc...
On the other hand, maybe Neil Warnock has stayed for a year too long, we are not spending much, (no new striker yet), and Dalman has other irons in the fire...etc...
What do you think???
Champions; auto promotion; play off winners; play off losers; just miss out; top half; mid table safety; bottom half; r....- No don't mention the R word  the
All to play for...can't wait :bluebird:

Heart says we'll mount a serious title challenge.

Head says playoffs.

Can't see us finishing below most of those teams. But it's a hard hard slog.

I'm going to make the same prediction I made last time in this division. If we get the rub of the green, I think we may just scrape into the play offs. Warnock knows the way to play in this league, and I certainly don't see us finishing in the bottom half. I was wrong last time, I never thought we would get automatic promotion, hopefully I will be wrong again. I have a feeling it will be tougher this time around.

At the moment this team is better than the last promotion team in goal, at the back and in attack

The problem at the moment is midfield Vaulks and Ralls will do ok, but we need at least 1 more player as good as but preferably better than these, if we get him we will go up automatically given as people have already pointed out a fair rub of the green. We could do without some of the horrendous refereeing decisions that went against us last year and our injury list needs to be shorter than the last time we were promoted

Impossible to tell, we don't know who we will have and who others will sign.

At the moment I would say top 6.

Agreed, and top 2 with a top Striker and Central midfielder!!!

The only player we have lost from the side that went up last time is Gunnarson and we have added Reid, Murphy, Vaulks and Cunningham. Another midfielder and striker and I can't see us being outside the top 4.

Mind you I said that last time we came down!

We have a better team than the last promotion but the league is a lot stronger in opinion.

Interesting as I thought the season we went up it was one of the strongest.

Imo it seems to have weakened if anything but no matter what in the championship it is a very very tough league.

Has to be top 6 as I cant see many better teams than City

For memory, the previous time we were relegated, we lost Medel, Caulker, Mutch and Campbell, arguably our best outfield players the previous season so it was no surprise we struggled.

Agree we missed them but my misplaced confidence was based on the fact that we signed so many supposedly good players. Eleven in total I seem to recall, most of whom bombed and whom we were stuck with or forced to pay off including Bergstaller, Le Fondre, Dikacio, Adeyami, that guy from Man United who I cant remember his name, the Spanish guy up front etc, etc. Did get Morrison and Bamba though.

Automatic promotion. Said it last time and we'll do it again. A good striker will clinch it, but we proved last time that if necessary we can do it without a 20 goal striker.

7th.

I am usually optimistic but I have a bad feeling that we will finish 8-10th based in nothing but the fact that everyone is overconfident that we can get promoted again on the Warnock factor. Warnock May be found out this season, if he is we haven’t got another game plan. We still need a striker, a defensive midfielder and a box to box midfielder that can create something. We also need a right back and to get rid of Richards, Connolly, Healey, Damour, Bacuna and probably Madine and possibly Ward.

Bacuna? We’ve only just signed him and signed him on a 5 year contract. He’s a solid championship midfielder and I can see him pushing to start to be honest not being shipped out.

I can see Bacuna, Ralls competing for a starting place in the middle with Vaulks. Then we have Reid, Hoilett, Patterson, Murphy, Tomlin and NML. Loads of competition.

I can see us maybe buying one more midfielder and hopefully a striker.

It’s a strong looking squad and with a quality striker we can push for a top 2 finish, but defo top 6.

I think we'll finish 4th this season or somewhere between 3-6th. I personally think it will be a lot harder this time around than last time.

Looking at the fixture list, I reckon it'll be the CCS (home fixture) :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

Top with 106 points.

A lot of managers tend to fade after initial success ... Possibly down to training methods becoming stale or players not feeling so upbeat anymore about their managers style in communication and motivation etc .Looking at Warnocks history I think he struggled to keep the momentum going at Leeds, QPR and Sheffield Utd so I suspect the same will happen with us .. My prediction is mid table mediocrity.... I think he will be gone by March

And the positivity has gone  if we are mid table, why would he be gone? Could only be a couple of points to play off places ;) :old: :bluebird:

Top 2 for me if we sign the extra players NW needs.

So many Manager changes with other clubs also helps.

Just like transfers, no one knows and it’s only guesswork

Always impossible to say in the championship, a lot comes down to how you start. I honestly cant see how anyone thinks this league is harder than the year we went up. Wolves were the arguably the best side the championship has ever seen, villa and west brom had money to burn and Fulham had/have Mitrovic. I think its between Cardiff, Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday for top 2. But I expect to be surprised/ disappointed.

Unlike many on here who think we have a fantastic side and we’ll fly easily to automatic, I think the play offs may be achievable.
If we get a couple of ‘marquee’ signings in midfield and up front (which I don’t think we will), I think we could possibly achieve a bit more.

Tend to agree with that, Paul

This is Cardiff City FC and in the next 9 months pretty much anything can happen! :laughing6: :ayatollah:

Yes I tend to agree as well!
I think the play offs may be "within reach". we could make them or finish just outside. However (sadly) if I was a betting man then I would go for us still being in the Championship in 2020/21 season. Hope I am wrong.

Definitely top 6 but we might just sneak autos if we keep our best players

Re: Where will we finish

We have a stronger squad than the one that finished second last time out. If we don't lose anyone good before the season starts I would say we will be top two as the championship does not seem any stronger than the last time we got promoted.
