To be fair this is good but I honestly think our sing a song for Sala that was sung for 10-15 mins on Saturday is plenty passionate enough :ayatollah:

Glad you can warm to them at this stage. I don't bear grudges but for me a load of Argentinians waving flags around an singing patriotic songs is going a bit too far.

Why wouldn't you ?
Actually the numbers were probably a lot more, but that's another conversation. The point remains, and a quote from Wiki seemed a diplomatic way to put it.
As I said, I wouldn't want to perpetuate ill feeling and I certainly don't hold Argentinians generally responsible , but equally I don't personally want to join in a singalong of Argentinian patriotic songs either.

If you’re really looking for words to fit this song - how about something like:-

We’re the famous Cardiff City
They’re the team we all adore
We have Emiliano Sala
But we never had the chance to see him score

Everywhere we go
We let people know
Sala will be with us evermore

Everywhere we go we let people know
One a bluebird then you’re blue forevermore

We’re the famous cardiff city repeat

So good you said it twice !
What a shrewd judge of character you are ! Yes indeed, I'm an unemployed social derelict with a very poor level of education and I have great difficulty in expressing myself properly. I suppose it's more obvious than I'd thought.
I shall follow your eloquent and erudite postings closely in future in the hope of learning enough to better myself one day.
Please don't hesitate to correct me, since it's the only way in which I will learn , and don't feel at all constrained by common civility or manners if you have any more guidance for me, since you're obviously a very successful man with a cutting wit and great insight into the failings of under achievers like myself.

I'm perfectly sure that they're nice people. Whilst I think there was a bit more to that action than you suggest, I don't suggest that we perpetuate bad feelings of hold grudges and I made that clear. My point was that singing their patriotic songs in a football ground which probably has a few empty spaces as a result of it all is a step too far for me personally .
This reminds me of the thread we had about Poppy Day , and reiterates that only a few decades later many people have absolutely no respect or regard for the men who died in wars.

It seems on initial investigation to be an understandable but genuine mistake. Apparently the Argies conscripted Welsh Patagonians because they also spoke Engliah, and they wanted to use them to listen to British radio comms etc.

Soon after the invasion , they put them in civilian clothes and sent them to mingle with the civilian population. Now ,the intention had been to befriend and pacify the civilians , but of course they shunned them and certainly didn't trust them. In fact, the people wrongly believed them to be intelligence officers sent to spy on them and detect resistance groups.
The Argentine Junta being openly Fascist and prone to torture, execution and cruelty to its opponents, this was an understandable mistake and the British population regarded them as a sort of Gestapo and accorded them an authority they didn't actually have.
The truth of the matter was that they were generally very reluctant conscripts who were genuinely trying to befriend the people and convince them to embrace Argentine rule .
The whole scheme turned out to be an unmitigated disaster and was soon called off. These ethnic Welsh were returned to the ranks, but the legend of their close and enthusiastic involvement with the regime lived on to this day - understandably because obviously the true situation was never explained to the civilian population and if it had have been they would certainly not have believed it.

Well, of course some might think that this is no more than their excuse for taking part in a wicked regime which collapsed soon after the bastards were kicked out of FI , and they may be right. It'd take a close investigation to get to the bottom of it at this stage, but my initial impression is that they're being truthful about it.

A fascinating little subject and story though, which I thank you for drawing to my attention. Actually, I think it'd be a good subject for a documentary.

Did you even watch the video of people singing in a food court, not a stadium with seats empty. It came across as a snap reaction to a post with a little I don't hold grudges.... But....thrown in to cover yourself. They were singing an America song, that was changed into a chant to rile up the Brazilians. So I have no idea when you, yourself went on a rant about how we arnt patriotic enough and need to respect soldiers that have died. At this point you are literally arguing with people who haven't said anything of the sort. Then you visably try to come across more eloquent when challenged, tbh I am sure you are probably a very smart man, but sometimes you do come across as a insecure toss pot a bit wide of the mark. You often take opportunities or make opportunities to make yourself sound smart and revel in it. It's quite sad and smacks of insecurities. Someone who is comfortable with who they are wouldn't fabricate opportunities to sound like they know a thing or two if they weren't deeply insecure. And with the way you revelled in taking the piss further of the unemployed and "less intelligent" is quite frustrating, many in this climate deal with unemployment, mental health issues and are as intelligent as you claim to be. I'm going to guess daddy issues, just because you're so cringingly desperate to prove you know something, just chill, think and give it a rest

No the point of the post was about a song, nothing to do with the f.cking Falklands, so not the point, yes it's about Argentina fans..... I'm struggling to see the correlation other than the fans are from a place we went to war with over a glorified penguin colony, it's like seeing German fans be passionate and then hold the opinion that that's too far too, then ranting about the nazis. I used to serve Simon weston a while back in a pub on cathedral Road, if he can have no issue with Argentina and blame the government's at the time, loosing half his face for the war and still be a genuine accepting lovely man, I think you can stop taking over posts to push your own closed minded agendas with overtones of misdirected racism

Whoa ! I thought it was the other guy who was taking the piss out of the unemployed etc, or more putting them down actually.
As far as the rest of it goes, I think you're confusing some strange aspiration to impress a load of people I'll never meet with trying to contribute by providing stuff to spark conversations, and maybe sometimes make someone smile.
What I say here isn't always serious . Sometimes it is ,and I'll grant you that it's probably sometimes hard to spot the difference.

Actually, you're quite perceptive to notice that I create opportunities ,as you put it, but they're opportunities for people to take the conversation in interesting and maybe contraversial directions - bit of creative intellectual midfield play if you like.

I'd never put anyone down because they have unfortunate circumstances or maybe don't feel good about themselves. In fairness I'd go out of my way to stand up for them and encourage them.
As far as me being insecure goes, don't worry about it because I'm very much the opposite to that in all ways, but I'm very sorry if I gave the impression of contempt for people with problems. The truth of the post which upset you was that the other guy had wrongly assessed me as such a person and was trying to use that to make me feel bad about myself, and that's exactly why I bit back at him - didn't destroy him, just a little nip on the nose really , but only to teach him not to try and bully people he thinks are weaker than him.

Why the detailed answer ? Because I obviously offended you and made you think I was putting people down so I needed to explain and apologise. It's always been my ethic to encourage people to have confidence and belief in themselves to help them over the kind of difficulties you mentioned, and that's another reason why I chuck in the occasional six dollar word .
No one needs to accept mediocrity or hardship and everyone has got the potential to succeed at the highest level if they understand what I've coincidentally said in a post earlier in this thread - that they are " as good as any other bugger ".

If I hit you with a bit of freindly fire, I'm honestly very sorry and I hope you will accept my apology.

Apology accepted and I owe you one in return, sorry for the amature analysis, I just see things on this forum and wish things were just straight up simplified as it has a tenancy to have the same emotional maturity of a school playground. But I understand I was a bit rash, I myself was having a bad mental health day, I haven't been able to go to a Cardiff game since Southend or Kidderminster due to anxiety in crowds. And unfortunately I took the banter about people not doing much with their life personally and sorta made it about that which in itself was hypocritical. I just dislike the assumptions of the unemployed and those struggling for work. So apologies all round x
