A forum for all things Cardiff City

Seriously, what did fans expect today and this window - particularly given what has happened?
We needed a striker, we have Niasse.
We needed someone who can play in central midfield and right back, we have Bacuna.
Even without the Sala situation.. what did people expect? For us to sign 6 or 7? Get real.
Worth remembering that everyone on here slated our transfer business in the summer, but we’re still in touching distance of survival. Not out of it by any means. Our chances are boosted by strengthening our squad, without disturbing the harmony of the squad.
People need to remember who we are. Not many players would have been queuing up to join a newly promoted club in 18th place.
We were never going to spend another big sum after the Sala situation, that was clear.
I’m more positive about our survival chances than I was at the start of the month, put it that way.
Roll on Saturday - I’m sure the majority of fans will get behind Niasse and Bacuna, as well as the rest of the squad.
This last week has proved there are more important things than football.

Never expected to go up, don’t expect to stay up..but ya never know, all to play for. A win on Saturday changes everything again..

Never complained about any signings, not sure why some think it's like going to the supermarket to pick up a can of beans. What will be will be & I'm sure the players we have will give everything for the cause until/if there is no hope.

I thought we would sign a good defender and a holding midfielder at least, and I thought that because the club said it several times and it was a minimum requirement to compete.
Having said that, I generally agree with your points. At least we've got a competent if not brilliant right back who can do other stuff, which is a slight improvement, and a very good striker who I'm sure can do wonderful things if we can provide him with the ball. We certainly shouldn't minimise the potential of Niasse, who I thought was our best chance anyway without upsetting anyone or meaning disrespect.
We just need to go with starting Bobby Reid and Josh Murphy every game now and give them the chance to form a credible attacking formation with Niasse. I think maybe they can actually, and I hope so because we most definitely need to score goals and win games now .

nothing really but a 4.5 year deal, do we never learn??????????????????????????????????????
Ridiculous.

Very impressed with the way Warnock was backed with Sala and the wages for Niasse. Bacuna obviously not first choice but fills a gap. I'd have ideally liked a proper defensive midfielder but I take no issue.

Hmm. I wasnt expecting us to set up as we did against Arsenal. A bit like what we did against Leicester. If Warnock is going down that route, I'm on the verge of being happy! And if he gets Paterson of the team sheet, and give the boys with pace some time to form a partnership, I'm even more happy. We got a right back, with a few crosses in him, which Peltier dont. Can we pull of another midfielder? Either way I'm optimistic, if Warnock has learned his lesson this past month!

Holy shit that's the most positive post you've made.

Agree but stop rubbishing Patterson because he's been out of position. He can probably do a much much better job in the midfield utility role

He dosent have a position anymore... But great player to have on the bench. He could cover a lot of positions in different scenarios.

I was hoping for some real quality in midfield to give us a chance of holding our own in the middle of the park and keep the ball for more than 3 passes. Add that to what we did I’d have been happy. So gutted about Sala as I believe he would have been perfect for us and won us a few games.
Thu Jan 31, 2019 8:00 pm
With you on this set up like we did against arsenal cut out the rash challenges and we've got a chance.
Thu Jan 31, 2019 8:28 pm
Tbh I expected more quality to help out the fantastic efforts so far.

The sala thing yes i know but atm we came into the league with a championship side and it looks like we are going out with one

we should have done all our buisiness in the summer simple.

I think we where expecting a few more dealings from abroad and they have all fell flat mehmet dalman has been chasing different players from abroad and was confident they where coming but we have gone to the bottom of the championship to source so some of us or perhaps just me are dissapointed with the dealings from abroad.

Mate, what did you expect? We brought a certain type of players to the club who Warnock could work with. Not many, if any could make the jump to premier league. We should have done some better business in the summer. The past week? it it was it is.
I think Daehlie said it best going into championship. We got a new team. A team who will gel and make an impact, and we got the talent who can make the step up to premier football. Not exactly the recipe for this team... Save the money, regroup and plan for the long term! With a new manager and a club playing identity. If we stay up, then great. If not. well..
Thu Jan 31, 2019 8:46 pm
I expected something along the lines of what we have. Could never see us spending some of the amounts suggested on here, in fact, we spent even more than the £12m to £15m that I thought we would. I thought two loans and possibly a £12m buy would be about our lot. To date, not been shocked by anything we have done, all pretty much as many anticipated.
Thu Jan 31, 2019 8:49 pm
I’m surprised we haven’t sold anyone this transfer window.

Sky just said Cardiff made a bid for a Belgium based player today - But that club wanted 3 times what City offered
Thu Jan 31, 2019 9:05 pm
TOPCAT CCFC
Perhaps we ONLY offerd 3 mill instead of 15 i cannot see a club puttung a player up for sale 15 mill and then asking for 45 million?
Thu Jan 31, 2019 9:12 pm
I know it's hard but I'm just trying to look at it from a different light.
No one at the club could have envisioned what's happened. No doubt it would have also had an impact on further signing coming as well.
We can't change the situation.
It's Cardiff City, playing in Blue in cup games against teams in a high division than us. If we can pull off 4/5 upsets, who knows.
This team wont ever give up so let's make sure we don't as a fan base!! Stick with them!! They'll need our support more than ever, starting on Saturday!

Cardiff City have been knocked back in a bid for top striking target Wesley Moraes after his club demanded €30million for their Brazilian ace, according to reports in Belgium.
The Bluebirds have been looking at signing a striker after the tragic disappearance of Emiliano Sala , with Club Brugge star Moraes said to be on their radar.
But Belgian media outlet Nieuwsblad claim that Brugge want as much for €30m for Moraes, with a €20m bid reportedly having been made.
The 22-year-old Brazilian has scored eight goals and laid on six assists this season, catching the eye of Cardiff - who have also looked at Jupiler League top scorer Mbwana Samatta this month.

Based on what Sky said i think we must have offered £10M + ??

We're not set up to play as a passing unit. Warnock's game is not posession based. It relies on playing/harassing in the oppo's half.

BUT. We have played two games resembling a football team. Arsenal and Leichester. My thought was passing, pressing and going for it. Why dont we presute that path?

No offence but who would want them?
The stand out players in our squad are not ours to sell
We have One or two other decent players but nothing special and are not really appealing to other premier league teams

Regardless of how we are set you still need to be able to pass the ball to a player on your own team. What’s the point of harassing and getting the ball when you give it straight back?

More or less what I expected. Nothing like I hoped for but if we keep expectations rock bottom the club will never disappoint.
