Warnock says he still looking for a defender.

Neil Warnock vows not to sign Emiliano Sala replacement in January
Sky Sports

Wednesday 30th January 2019

Neil Warnock paid tribute to missing Emiliano Sala by confirming Cardiff will not look to sign a striker before Thursday's transfer deadline.

Cardiff played for the first time since the aeroplane carrying their record signing and pilot Dave Ibbotson disappeared, slipping to a 2-1 defeat away at Arsenal on Tuesday.

Asked whether the club would be active in the January window before Deadline Day, Warnock told Sky Sports: "Yes. But I don't think we will be bringing any strikers in.

"Emiliano was the one I worked on for a couple of months. I don't see anyone else that we can get that will be better than we've already got.

"We need a couple of defenders to supplement the squad, because we are short in numbers there. We are working hard behind the scenes to try and bring one or two in."

Sounds about right to me. I don't think many expected a striker to be signed - despite recent events.

I can see us bringing in a right back at least, possibly a centre half and a central midfielder as well.

Still one loan left, but has to be from abroad.

Yes, despite rumours of another major bid going in for Patrick Schick, not signing an replacement actually seems a reasonable and decent thing to do

I actually liked what I saw of Oumar Niasse tonight and with a couple more games to 'get up to speed', I believe he will be a good addition alongside Bobby Reid and with a fitter Kenneth Zohore as back up

What we do need are a midfielder (a centre back if Shaun Morrison is out for longer than a few weeks) and a right back who can defend and hopefully they will happen :ayatollah:

What's Warnock's master plan then, keep playing Patterson up front,Championship here we come

Sadly just as I feared. We might have got a point last night with Sala or a striker. I guess no one can complain in the circumstances, its just so sad that we are going to surrender our premier league place like this. We had a fighting chance at Christmas but the club have now accepted relegation. There wont be any signings tomorrow either.

If that is the case then i'm afraid that we are as good as down, (especially after last nights results) remember, this is warnocks doing for not bringing in a striker in the summer.

Such a sad situation beyond belief but we are a business, with other teams strengthening and picking up results we look to be going back down without any additions.

Im ok with that. Its uphill either way you look at it from now, and really not to bothered is we dont spunk out any more money now. We are in much more need of a right back in my opinion. And maybe a midfielder. I think we are ok up front, but only if Reid, Zahore, Niasse and Murphy are given games and form partnerships. if he insist using Paterson it will be our downfall. It will take two months scoring 5 goals..

How is not signing another striker anything to do with a tribute?

Having watched his press conference he does state it’s very doubtful as it took two months to get Sala, they are trying though and are also targeting two defensive players.

Niasse seemed to cause trouble yesterday so hopefully he will get his first against Bournemouth. If we get him firing and get two defensive players with camarasa back we might yet have a fight of staying up.

Having watched Niasse and Reid together last night. I'm not too bothered. Much rather a RB and midfielder.

Nope, we can loan as many as we like from abroad.

Only 4 per season from English clubs and only 2 at any one time, so we can't have any more from English clubs as we have 2 already.

The restrictions only apply when loaning players from teams playing in the English leagues

Under the rules in the Premier League Handbook 2018/19 (Download PDF, size: 8.39MB), there are restrictions on how many players Premier League clubs can loan from other Premier League/English clubs.

They are:
- Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time.
- The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.
- Premier League clubs cannot loan to another Premier League club a player they have acquired in the same transfer window.
- A Premier League club may loan not more than one of its goalkeepers to another Premier League club

With the exception of Welsh clubs competing in the competitions listed under Rule V.6.2, loans from a club in membership of another National Association do not count towards the above quotas.'

If we needed Sala then we still need a striker.

It is a tragic story but one that is separate from the club's attempt to remain in the Premier League.

I am willing to take the hit of relegation as not much more was expected from the season but I didn't expect the club to think likewise.

Unfortunately if we dont sign a striker we will go down, as well as Booby Reid played last night he failed to score with 2 great chances, Paterson won every header but he cant kick the ball properly. We are going to accept our fate now is there really any need to sign 2 defenders. We dont score we go down .

Niasse looked good and that was against good opposition too. As he settles I think he will be a handful. We need to strengthen midfield and defence.

Re-wateched his post match interview on SSN this morning, he said the only striker he’d go for now is in England and that can’t happen as he already has 2 PL loans, think the only way this would now happen is if we bought Arter by deadline tomorrow making him available for Saturday and freeing up a loan spot

I agree, and i can't believe how many people are happy to go with the strike force we already have and also happy enough to accept relegation, look at the difference Mitrovic makes to Fulham, he could very well keep them up.

Its pretty much as expected. At the start of the window I'd have been happy with Niasse as a striking option. Would love us to get a right back and a defensive mid now though if possible.

Supplement the squad, !!!! A right back will walk into that team and surely if we needed Salary then we needed and still need a striker, my apologies if that sounds harsh but we need goals.

lets hope its NW playing games with agents, if not it is dissapointing to say the least.
We may as well give up now with that strike force, how many goals have they scored between them this season?

Ummm Niasse’s played 1 full game for us.... has only played bit parts for Everton so far this season so you can’t expect him to be lacking sharpness in front of goal. I thought he had an excellent game last night, holding up play, linking play, wining balls he had no right too..... We looked a lot better attacking last night, there was confidence

Sadly Reid doesn’t get enough games, zahore?? Don’t know what has happened to him and Paterson is crap! Niasse still has to get match sharp and fit. This should have been sorted during the summer. But, Warnock didn’t say we are not looking, he said we’ve put offers in and it’s doubtful.

We are in talks with a right back and they are hopeful of a defensive midfielder so rumour has it. We are desperate for an option upfront and if we can’t get the offers we may as well take a punt in Rossi, however, I think we may sneak a late one possibly. I don’t know anything, I just think that as we have our offers in they realise it’s still a problem and will snag someone late.
