Warnock blames Brexit for lack of signings

Sky Sports

Neil Warnock has launched an extraordinary attack on Prime Minister Theresa May's handling of Brexit negotiations, dismissing any suggestion it will harm the chances of Premier League clubs signing players from abroad.

Cardiff currently sit 17th in the Premier League after an uninspiring 0-0 draw at home to Huddersfield highlighted why Warnock is so determined to strengthen his squad this month.

But the Bluebirds boss, who criticised Liverpool for "lacking class" after seeing Nathaniel Clyne choose a loan deal at Bournemouth over joining his squad, instead directed his transfer frustrations in the direction of the Prime Minister.

MPs are set to vote on May's deal for a withdrawal from the EU next week and when asked whether Brexit could have a potential impact on incomings at the club, Warnock responded by hitting out at the way the country's politicians are handling the process.

Warnock said: "I think once the country knows what they're doing and we get an agreement and move on, I think it will be straightforward [to sign players].

"But I don't know why politicians don't do what the country wanted if I'm honest. They had a referendum and now we see politicians and everyone else trying to put their foot in it.

"Why did we have a referendum in the first bloody place? I can't wait to get out if I'm honest. I think we'll be far better out of the bloody thing. In every aspect. To hell with the rest of the world. Football-wise as well."

WARNOCK'S BREXIT RANT
Cardiff boss Neil Warnock believes Brexit will be good for the country and says it will help clubs sign players. Asked if Brexit could have an effect on transfers following his side's 0-0 draw with Huddersfield, he said: "I think any transfer window's difficult for me. Not just this one.
"I think once the country knows what they're doing and we get an agreement and move on, I think it will be straightforward [to sign players].
"But I don't know why politicians don't do what the country wanted if I'm honest. They had a referendum and now we see politicians and everyone else trying to put their foot in it.

NO HE DID NOT. He actually said it made no difference. A journo has asked if it was a problem, and another followed up (quite bizarrely) with another brexit question.

I do think he saw the benefit of making an alternative headline though

He is slowly going downhill.. I really hope he can turn it around but his whole approach to everything is so defeatist.. his comments after games just seem to not really drive us on into the next game.

His subs, just everything lately just don't make sense with Warnock.. it's all repetitive.

Stupid things for him to say, he didn’t need to.

This, along with other comments like the Clyne ones, are becoming embarrassing.

I think he’s had enough and will go at the end of the season - whatever happens with our season.

He was only asked if Brexit was to affect signing players abroad been taken out of context yet again.

I’m sure his “..to hell with the rest of the world...” comment will sit well with the owner, the chairman and the CEO. Not to mention the non British players in his squad.

Nobody can say either way who is right over the deal for clyne unless you were at the negotiations.
We should have got a loan contract signed and sealed straight away, you cant work by someones word anymore when multi millions are at stake.
I dont blame Liverpool for maximising the financial gain to them from a player sale
I dont blame Clyne for choosing a more attractive deal at the time
I blame our admin team for not getting the contract over quickly enough and stoping this happening

Neil Warnock launches pro-Brexit rant as he reveals he now has three Cardiff City transfer targets

Media Wales

By Tom Coleman

12th Jan 2019

Neil Warnock has slammed the government's handling of Brexit negotiations

Neil Warnock has dismissed any suggestion that Brexit will harm the chances of Premier League clubs signing players from abroad, before launching into a scathing assessment of Theresa May's handling of Brexit negotiations.

There have been some suggestions that leaving the EU could have an impact on British clubs signing players from the continent, but the Yorkshireman insists that football - and the rest of the country - will be better off.

And, following the 0-0 draw with Huddersfield, Warnock slammed politicians' handling of the process, with MP's set to vote on the prime minister's deal for a withdrawal from the EU next week.

Asked whether Brexit could have a potential impact on transfers, Warnock replied: "I think any transfer window's difficult for me. Not just this one. I don't think the chairman has ever worked so hard to get me players and the chief executive. It's so difficult and it stuck out like a sore thumb.

"I think once the country knows what they're doing and we get an agreement and move on, I think it will be straightforward [to sign players].

"But I don't know why politicians don't do what the country wanted if I'm honest. They had a referendum and now we see politicians and everyone else trying to put their foot in it.

"Why did we have a referendum in the first bloody place? I can't wait to get out if I'm honest. I think we'll be far better out of the bloody thing. In every aspect. To hell with the rest of the world.

"Football-wise as well."

Warnock certainly has found it difficult to strengthen his side in this January window, but says the club remains optimistic on bringing new faces in, with a striker still at the top of his shopping list.

"We're hopeful. But you won't go home tonight and hear me on the radio telling you about a new signing.

"We've got three main targets now, but we thought we had a midfielder signed last week and that fell through.

"I don't think you can say anything until they're actually sat in your office signing the papers.

"Agents get a sniff elsewhere, with better deals. That's the job we're in at the minute."

Sadly Warnock is looking out of his depth , the way he was screaming at Gunnarsson to leave Rhys healey take the long throws when he came on done it for me . The long throw against premier league opponents hasn’t worked all season yet they still do it , it’s never varied , it’s predictable and easy to defend , that’s our plan A , we gave no other plan , we have no creativity in attack , we expect too much from a lone striker with no service and who isn’t really a striker. The crossing is poor , the passing is slow and poor . We have footballers and pace to burn but they are left on the bench . We play bottom of the league at home with an injured striker up front on his own , we were lucky to get a draw , at times they took the mick out of us , in 90 mins of football we had zero shots on target. Our commitment is brilliant , they try their hearts out , that is not going to be enough to stay up .
If we want to stay in this league we need to alter the way we play ,Morrison needs a rest ,manga should CB . A right back needs to play at right back , we need a striker and a top class winger . We also need a top class coach who can teach the players to shoot instead of scuffing the ball all the time. Warnock has gone on record as saying he hasn’t had great success at finding strikers in his career , well to me it looks more the case of his teams aren’t set up to let attacking play thrive , it’s set up to protect the back four . Any striker in the world would struggle in this set up . Yesterday’s performance was dog shit , simple as
I am one unhappy supporter but I will still be cheering them on next game and looking for an improvement.

Agree with every word. We'll go down unless these things happen. I'd prefer a creative midfielder like Pritchard to a winger though. Our wingers can do it if we get players into the box.

As per - 'they' have taken the bits they wanted and removed the context.

when asked whether Brexit could have a potential impact on incomings at the club, Warnock responded by hitting out at the way the country’s politicians are handling the process.

Warnock said: “I think once the country knows what they’re doing and we get an agreement and move on, I think it will be straightforward [to sign players].
- fair comment in my opinion

“But I don’t know why politicians don’t do what the country wanted if I’m honest. They had a referendum and now we see politicians and everyone else trying to put their foot in it." - We can all see that is happening - just watch the news.

“Why did we have a referendum in the first bloody place? I can’t wait to get out if I’m honest. I think we’ll be far better out of the bloody thing. In every aspect. To hell with the rest of the world. Football-wise as well.” - I think we all think that - regardless of In or Out. Why have a referendum and then not act on it - or rather just a bit of it.

If I remember correctly - Football wise - we are Governed by UEFA not the EU. Being OUT though - means we wont have to pay any attention to the EU work permit - we as the UK can decide what happens with football players

Why not listen if he is making some good points. Most of what Paul's Taxi says is correct.
I would add that Warnock still has done extremely well deserves and still has my support for the duration of the season. However, he is very unwise to get involved in commenting on politics. Don't use his position as a political platform. Just concentrate on keeping City up!

Can't disagree with anything here. Excellent post.

Re: “ Neil Warnock in bizarre Brexit rant

Sun Jan 13, 2019 3:29 pm

I do like Warnock and would keep him even if we were relegated. That said Saturday was an indictment of his recent record in the transfer market.Twenty million pounds sitting on the bench and another six million sitting on the bench for Sheffield United and two million plying for Peterborough. If we sign a striker can it be someone who is good enough to actually play for us and is not semi permanently injured.

Can anyone remember when we actually scored a goal from a Gunnarson long throw. I think we might have scored one about four seasons ago possibly by Rudi Gestede bit I am not sure of it. Can't remember anything more recent than that. He and Morrisson must have taken two to three hundred long throws which have produced absolutely nothing yet we still persist with it.

There is a contradiction there. The long throws haven’t worked all season so Warnock wanted to try a different thrower.

DIFFERENT being the operative word.

Agree pretty much with all of this

Warnock was, at best, naive in answering the question. He should be wise enough to have avoided the question which had nothing to do with the game.

Saying ‘to hell with the rest of the world’ when he is trying to recruit new players is pitiful.

Are some of our supporters utterly blind to some of the things he has come out recently with Clyne and now this.. it's the classic Mourinho tactic which diverts the result and performance away once again to get fans away from criticising the team and manager.. the more supporters ignore this crap the better.
