NEIL WARNOCK: LOAN RULES "SCANDALOUS"

Neil Warnock: Cardiff City manager criticises 'scandalous' loan rules
BBC Sport

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has criticised the Premier League's rules on loan signings, labelling them "scandalous".

Top-flight sides are not allowed to have more than two players on loan from Premier League or EFL clubs.

The veteran manager is looking to bolster his Cardiff team in the January transfer window but has questioned the logic of the current system.

"It's just such a ridiculous rule," said Warnock.

"I agree that you can't have more than one from a club but what's to stop having three loan players in the squad and giving them the opportunity to play the Premier League.

"In clubs like ourselves which haven't got a lot of money, it's an opportunity to give them."

The Bluebirds already have Harry Arter in their squad, on loan from Premier League club Bournemouth, as well as Victor Camarasa from Real Betis of La Liga.

Arter's presence means Cardiff can only sign one more loan player from the Premier League.

"I've got Harry Arter so I can't take a young English striker or a young English midfielder if I've got another one," Warnock added.

"Surely they are better in my squad than in an under-23 squad where they learn nothing, I just don't get the logic.

"Heaven knows why we can only have two loan players from English clubs when we're talking about our younger players needing experience."

After Cardiff's 5-1 home defeat to Manchester United, Warnock conceded he needs to add more players to his squad to help their relegation battle as they slipped to 17th in the table.

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has been named as a potential target but with a loan deal more likely than a permanent move, any further loan recruits would then have to come from abroad.

The Cardiff boss and his coaching staff have been scouting across Europe in search of potential recruits for January, with Nantes striker Emiliano Sala in particular catching Warnock's eye.

Despite an interest in Sala, Warnock insists the rules should be changed to help develop young, British players.

"It's scandalous," he added. "We can bring 10 from abroad so who are we trying to help?

"It's a disgrace when I could be giving a young lad a chance in the league."

"In clubs like us which haven't got a lot of money...".

That's a load of bollocks. We'll get over £100m like all the other teams in the Premier League.

What he means is "In clubs like us who expect miracles to be worked on the lowest budget in Premier League history"

Or maybe "In clubs like us who don't really care if we get relegated or not"

But you also got to look at book balancing. We've made big losses part from this season.

We should not be relying on loans to be in our starting 11? We had plenty of time to sort out what was required in premiership but the club or should say NW failed to address the obvious problems that was a striker midfielder and defender ? Think this statement shows how desperate NW is regarding players...

Are we not getting over £100m for being in the Premier League?

Do we not have the lowest budget in Premier League history?

What steps have the club taken to try their very best to stay in this division?

Yeah or like that other bunch of prima donnas who don't give a toss at Wolves. They've spent all that money and they're right in the shit aren't they?

Oops...hang on a minute.

Fulham did it with a striker who was only ever 'class' at Championship level (as Newcastle already knew) ;) :D

What I'm saying is money doesn't always guarantee success. Wolves spent money. They're doing ok. Not exactly setting the league on fire tho

I can see where Warnock is coming from regarding the number of loans from abroad, people are always saying british players don't get a look in with all the foreign players in the league. Having british players actually playing in the premier league and championship surely helps all the home nations.
What steps have the club taken to try their very best to stay in this division?

Knotty you're right. Spending large sums of money doesn't always guarantee success. But what I'm saying is that if you spend a large sum of money on quality players then you can be in the top 10 halfway through the season and 13 points clear of relegation. Like Wolves.

Not a bad position to be in on your first season back in the Premier League is it?

Yes we could have spent £100m and been in Fulham's position. Or we could have spent £100m and been in Wolves position.

Or we could spend next to nothing and keep our fingers crossed which seems to be the philosophy of the club this season.

Wolves have an ace in the hole with Jorge Mendes, with the best will in the world and a bigger budget we still would not be getting those players..so therefore its not something you can compare.

Wolves have spent around 35m more than us after they sold players! And they are getting quality players at reduced rates thanks to Mendes with more in pipeline... Fulham just waisted 60m on same players had in championship their experiment has not worked. Like I said we should not be looking at loan players if had adequately bought in summer no excuses plenty time just poor planning and purchasing of players.. :old:

So, basically we get paid a shit load of money for premiere league football. But somehow we don’t have funds to buy players. Then we bitch about not getting the same players for free?

I see the point about giving players first team experience though. Can only be good for British football.

Nw is talking about youngsters not getting a chance so is he aying he wants to take youngsters on loan? Ffs we need experience if we are to have chance to stay up? This jan got the looks of sorry we tried to get Messi but he wouldn't come just like all the other players linked to us previously ...

Warnock said somewhere in an interview a few weeks ago. We're competing with sides like Burnley, Huddersfield, Brighton etc. But they built year on year financially. Scrape the first year and build from there....if Houton can can do it. Warnock deffo can

Yeah we are getting 100 million but where your talking crap is saying we got it to spend on players we haven’t.

It’s not a good idea to spend all the money on players because if you have a look where Fulham are in the league you’ll realise it don’t mean a thing.

Can’t really use that statistic to be fair Liverpool signed four top quality players. Fulham have gone an signed eight over priced foreign players who do not give a shit about there club.

You might be right. It is a difficult window however you look at it, and I think most clubs have to pay over the odds if they want someone in. He pulled up Arter And Camarasa deadline day last, so quietly hoping. If only spend the money on a striker and loan a right back.
But now we are being linked with midfielders and center backs?

Why is loan rule scandalous? Everyone knows it before season starts why whinge about it just because a club cannot use it to bring in extra players, how many was NW thinking of 3,4, more?
we don't use players already at club bought at reasonable expense so what are loans for?

Yes that's where they are going if take look at championship. We do not need average under 23s we need fully available fully fit players who can do a job for us.
