“ Referee tonight “

Sat Dec 22, 2018 2:33 pm

Michael Oliver takes charge of tonight’s match.

In 20 games this season, he’s handed out 62 yellow cards and five red cards.

He also took charge of our games against Huddersfield and Manchester City.

Terrible performance might as well been wearing a red shirt!

Gave an offside call against us in the first-half allowing Young to take it 20 yards in our half. Summed up his loyalties for the match.

Not that United needed any help smashing us tonight, but the referee was genuinely shocking. Right down there with Kevin Friend’s performance in the Leicester game.

Surprising how bad he was really as he's typically one of the better refs in the premier league, but he had a shocker today.

Well he did allow Gunnarsson to make about 20 fouls, before booking him.

Yep, loads of outraged fans near me who just didn't understand. the fact that the City players didn't kick up a fuss says it all.

Poor ref gave the Mancs everything although in fairness they didn’t need his help to win comfortably

Rules I thought change a few years back and the red was 100% correct in that case

Re: “ Referee tonight “

Would not have given our penalty if it wasn't for the linesman on the Grandstand side.

A number of fouls United players carried out you feel would have resulted in a booking if we had committed them.

Certainly seemed to favour his buddies in the red shirts.

Re: “ Referee tonight “

Although the ref might have caused some City fans to be annoyed, it is barely worth a mention when you've just been outclassed and soundly thrashed 5-1. May have been different if it had been 2-1, but the ref had virtually no bearing on today's result.

I'm at a loss as well. An offside decision cannot result in a free kick being taken in the opponents half.

It’s to do with interfering with play.

City player came back from offside position into his own half ref blew where city player touched ball as lino flagged which is where kick was taken from! The most stupid rule in football is coming back from offside position even if you come back inside own half still offside given :o

Still can’t see how the free kick can be 10 yards inside our half

I believe the rule if you come back from an offside position even if you touch the ball in your own half you take the free kick from where the ball was touched by the player Therefore it can be 20 yards in your half

The offside award was taken from the correct place, that is where the offence happened.

What? How can you be offside in your own half.

He came from an offside position, he touched the ball in his own half. That is when the offence is penalised. It’s been allowed for at least 2 seasons now.

I can remember that changing a couple of years back. Can't be offside in your own half, but if you come back from an offside position the free kick is taken from where the player touches the ball, even if in your own half. Like someone said earlier, a strange rule.

It happens every game but normally opposition take it from their own half as that's where ball is! In today's case city player was offside in other half ran 20yrds to get ball inside his half lino flags correctly and ball is dead at that point, it just so happened utd player took kick from where ball was nothing wrong in that just don't see it often..

It's s joke rule see it every game but to fans it's non sensical, players are not taking advantage as always going away from goal like today!

Re: “ Referee tonight “

Sun Dec 23, 2018 7:53 am

So theoretically being offside could result in a penalty. If a player who is offside runs back and touches the ball in his own penalty area, what an absurd rule.
