Tuesday 1st May 2018

Cardiff City's U19 side face Swansea City in the FAW Youth Cup Final at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday, 1st May – 7:30pm K.O.

Craig Bellamy’s side have been in fine form in this competition – dispatching Ely Rangers, Merthyr Town, Briton Ferry Llansawel, Aberystwyth Town and Airbus UK Broughton to secure their place in the Final.

Swansea are the current holders of the trophy - and they have averaged 4.5 goals per game and conceded twice. The Bluebirds, who will be looking to lift the trophy for the ninth time, have averaged 5.6 goals per game and conceded just once so far in the competition.

Sion Spence is City's top marksman in this tournament to date with six goals from five games. He is closely followed by Mark Harris who has struck five times and Sam Bowen who has converted on four occasions.

Tickets can be purchased on the day of the match at the Liberty Stadium for just £5 per Adult & £2 per Senior Citizen/U16.

It's a South Wales Derby tonight

Many of us will surely be hoping for a South Wales derby in the Premier League next season, but rivalries will be resumed at the Liberty Stadium tonight, as Cardiff and Swansea meet in the FAW Youth Cup final.

Cardiff are looking for their first title in 12 years, but face a tough taks against their most bitter of rivals, who are looking for their ninth consecutive trophy win and their 18th in total.

Tickets for the match are priced £5 for adults and £2 for seniors and children.

Highlights from the game will feature on Wednesday’s (2 May) Mwy o Sgorio, S4C at 6:30pm.

Bellamy’s Boys Ready For Swans In Youth Cup

Tuesday 1st May 2018

by Terry Phillips

Craig Bellamy and his young Bluebirds are out to stop Swansea City’s run of success in the Welsh Youth Cup.

Manager Bellamy and his under-19 players take on the Swansea in the FAW Youth Cup Final at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday (May 1, 7:30pm).

The Swans have lifted this trophy in eight successive seasons, although Cardiff City did not play in all of those competitions, and Bellers is on a mission.

Coaches Jon Gray and Anthony Wright and their Swansea team are aiming to win this cup for the 12th time overall

The West Walians finished sixth in the under-18 Premier Development League South and Grey says: “It’s another cup final and a chance to retain the trophy.

“We take this competition seriously every year.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the players to experience what it’s like to play at the Liberty Stadium. A different atmosphere comes with it and the game will provide new surroundings for them to get used to.

“Overall, Anthony and I are delighted with how the group have progressed this season.

“It’s important to finish on a high. We want to win playing the way we have all season and we’d be delighted to retain this cup.”

Battle

Credit to Cardiff, they’ve been much better in the last five minutes.

James Waite showed his pace on the left before Mark Harris puts a cross out of play.

but it’s better from the Bluebirds

Cardiff chance
Very good play once again from James Waite on the left after a slick pass from Laurence Wootton, the left-back beats his man and delivers into the box for Sion Spence who heads at Benda.

Good chance for the Bluebirds.

Swansea chance
It’s been a lively start to the second half, and Kieran Evans breaks well for Swansea before finding Liam Cullen on the right, and the Wales Under-21 international strikes at goal with his left boot, but Benda saves comfortably.

Fantastic tackle from Cameron Coxe to deny Kieran Evans

Tackle
What a tackle that is from Cameron Coxe to thwart Kieran Evans who was through on goal after a neat pass from Liam Cullen.

Vital challenge from the Cardiff defender.

Save
Terrific save from Steven Benda to deny Connor Davies after the Cardiff midfielder charged at goal before drilling an effort low to the Swansea ‘keeper’s left.

1-1
