Chris Coleman Sacked

Sun Apr 29, 2018 11:58 am

I feel sorry for him. He made the wrong move going to Sunderland but they were way too far gone for him to save them. However, all credit to him for rallying them against Fulham where but for a cheating ref they deserved a win.

Chris Coleman has been "released from his contract" as Sunderland manager, while owner Ellis Short has confirmed he has agreed a deal to sell the club.

An "international consortium of football investors", led by Eastleigh chairman Stewart Donald, will take over Sunderland subject to EFL approval.

It was a very brave job to take, they should have stuck with him for a season

Ive never really rated him really, was a stupid move but I would bet it was motivated by money which isn't a bad thing and no doubt he would get a big pay off. He had plenty of time to turn them around, odd he took the job without guarantees of more funds being made available in Jan.

He had a plan all along, relegation sack pay off thank you very much onto the next job.

Unfortunately that's football for you.
From hero to zero in 24 months.
But I can well imagine he's been given an hefty pay off.
I can see him becoming the Jack manager , next season .

Warnock would have got that squad in the top half easily! Wrong man fur the job, he’ll probably be sacked from the next job by this time next year! He built a reputation on the performance’s of one of the best players in the World, getting Wales to overachieve.

The Black Cats were relegated to League One after losing to Burton on 21 April, their second successive relegation.

Coleman left his job as Wales manager to replace Simon Grayson in November.

'All debts paid off'
In a statement, Short said he had paid off all debts owed by the club, leaving them "debt free for the first time since years before" his takeover in 2008.

Sunderland had been listed in Uefa's annual report as having the 13th highest debt in Europe, more than clubs including Paris St-Germain, Porto and Newcastle.

In February, Short said he would be willing to give the club away for free to a buyer willing to take on the club's debts.

Coleman's time comes to an end
Former Fulham and Coventry City manager Coleman is the 10th permanent manager to depart the Wearsiders since Roy Keane's exit in December 2008.

He won just five of his 29 games in charge as they fell to the third tier for the first time in 30 years.

Following the defeat by Burton, Coleman told BBC Newcastle that he hoped to remain in charge of the Black Cats next season.

"I know what needs to be done and I hope I get the chance to do it," he said.

"I came to manage Sunderland, it's a great club and we're in tough times and what's happening around the corner I have no idea."

Coleman's assistant Kit Symons has also left the club, who have not revealed who will lead the team for their final game of the season against champions Wolves.

A club statement said: "We would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Chris and Kit for their tireless efforts in what has been a hugely disappointing season for everyone involved with the club."

Sunderland are guaranteed to finish last in the Championship, six points behind 23rd-placed Burton with only one game to play.

I disliked him intensely when he 1st became our National Manager, but in fairness to him he won me over. I don't buy into the theory that if you have one of the best players in the world your job is easy. It's not, you still have to manage the whole squad.

As a nation he took us to heights we didn't even dream of, but then it started to slip. I don't know what his gripe was with the FAW, but as soon as he left and took up the poisoned chalice at Sunderland I knew he was in trouble.

Do I feel sorry for him, God no! He's had a pay off and will always be comfortable in life. His stock is now unbuyable and he's still a JB. Thanks for the memories Chris........but now do one. No sympathy here.

They made him the scapegoat. The problems at Sunderland are more to do with very poor financial planning and players like Rodwell earning huge money for messing about in the under 23s and not wanting to play!I

Credit to Coleman and them for having a good go against Fulham and they should not have lost - but for some DISGRACEFUL refereeing. Who know if they had for a decent ref Coleman might still be there!! I wish him all the best after this shabby treatement.

In a related point it also shows that there are a lot worse owners than Vincent Tan. At least he tries to manage the club finances.

Awful manager, out of his depth. Warnock would of kept them up

Reading this it's seems obvious that new owners want their own man in and don't rate coleman? Think he's over rated bit like hughes :old:

He has been a very lucky manager.

Lets face it he is a Russell Slade type journeyman who goes through the motions and quotes of a tried and tested formula that most former players go through until it dawns on the world they have little aptitude or talent to make a real difference.

Wales had a world class player on top form and the will through pride and passion with no ego at all to go that extra 1% when he was a full tilt. That rubbed off onto the others. Ramsey touched moments of world class, Allen looked a top 4 midfielder whilst Ledley played with a fractured leg. Coleman helped create and nurture that environment, but the black cat were a broken club that needed short term fixes.

Russell Slade would have done a better job.

The championship is not really a needlessly tossing around with the ball league unless you have the financial superiority to get players capable of doing that and i can't see too many giving him £30 million to experiment with.

Can't see him at anything above L1 again

Coleman can't cut the MUSTARD!!!

Re: Chris Coleman Sacked

Sun Apr 29, 2018 2:14 pm

I'm not buying the 'poisoned chalice, Sunderland were doomed' rhetoric that gets bandied about.

Coleman took over mid November, he had plenty of time to turn it round, they were only 3 points from safety when he took over and now they are 7 points adrift and relegated, they have gone backwards under him.

They have a decent enough squad to be finishing at least mid-table, was a terrible appointment.

I have the utmost respect for Chris Coleman for what he achieved with Wales but I'm afraid he has proved himself incapable as a Club Manager and the new owners obviously see this hence they don't want him to lead any potential revival.

All I can see is that he got them relegated, had time to save them a good few manager's could have,e.g Warnock for one.Never mind made a few quid, move on and make a mess of his next appointment...pity the team he goes to next.

Re: Chris Coleman Sacked

Trouble with Coleman is - he believes he is a top manager but he took the wrong job as he's not top enough.

He's had a great pay day though but his manager value is now poor.

What that means is two more chances for panicking champ teams next season(s) then goodbye
