Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has signed a two-year contract extension after putting the club in contention for promotion back to the Premier League.

The 69-year-old, who joined the Bluebirds in October 2016, has penned a deal to keep him at the club until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Warnock has been rewarded with a new deal having guided Cardiff to second place in the Sky Bet Championship, four points clear of third-placed Aston Villa.

Neil Warnock is celebrating fifty years in football this season


Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock is to stay at the club beyond the end of this season and sign a new contract.

Warnock is set to continue at the Cardiff City Stadium irrespective of whether the Bluebirds are promoted.

His current deal expires this summer following his arrival in October 2016. Warnock has led Cardiff to second in the current Championship table.

Chairman Mehmet Dalman held talks with Warnock, 69, after flying to Wales to watch the Bluebirds beat Bristol City.

I honestly didn’t expect him to stay.

But he’s done a great job so I think this is great news.

He was always staying, one more crack at the Premier League, and why not

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a gentleman’s agreement which will be signed at the end of this season, allowing him to fully focus on the automatic promotion task ahead. Great news!

As an aside Salman is, on his performance to date our best chairman in my lifetime and I have been following them since 1961.

Neil Warnock signs new two-year City deal!

Cardiff City FC is delighted to announce that Neil Warnock has signed a two-year extension to his contract with the Bluebirds.

The new deal will see him remain at Cardiff City Stadium until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Assistant Manager Kevin Blackwell and First Team Coach Ronnie Jepson have also extended their stays with the Club.

Tan Sri Vincent Tan commented on the news, saying: “After positive talks, I am very pleased that Neil has committed to Cardiff City Football Club for a further two seasons.

“Having supported Neil since his arrival at the Club, we have been delighted to see results follow on the pitch. We are very happy to have agreed this deal, and are looking forward to continuing to bring further success to Cardiff City.

"We were also pleased to strengthen the team in the recent January window, and wish Neil and the entire squad much success in the games ahead.”

Cardiff City FC Executive Director & CEO Ken Choo added: “I’m sure I speak for all fans of the Club when I say that we are thrilled to see Neil put pen to paper on a new contract.

“Neil has had a fantastic impact here in the Welsh capital and we know that he has all of the attributes and experience to continue the great work that he has already put in. I’m very much looking forward to the next two campaigns with him at the helm.”

Neil Warnock the best Championship manager by a country mile. However, I got doubts it's a good decision if we are promoted as I doubt he'll be able to keep us up with that style of play. What's Warnock's biggest budget that he's ever had to spend in the market? It's not like he has good experiences of handling PL, he can't rely upon ex-players as the standard is much higher
