' CARDIFF / CHELSEA FANS GOING FOR IT '

Tue Jan 30, 2018 6:26 pm

Cardiff / Chelsea fans outside the Bob Bank Terrace, Chelsea Fans tried to take the Bob Bank 10 mins before then end of the game.

If I rem right it was 3-1 Cardiff at the time and Chelsea left early to try and take the Bob Bank, it ended up 3-3.

Got the gates open, and chased them 3 times as far as the Ninian Pub. Unfortunately for us, then the whole of the away end came out...things went a little but wrong for us then :thumbright:

Was working in the 'Castle Bar' in town that day, finished late that lunch time so ran down to the ground. Went in normal enclosure section, and as I got in City scored - jumped up and suddenly saw it was chelsea all around! Circle formed around me, but I saw about 8 other City at the front near the fence - all getting a kicking and giving as best back. Tried to get down towards them, thought safety in numbers lol. (think these were the lads in the pics), but got a few slaps. They then got turfed out by police and shown the way to the Bob. So made my way to the canton and got a steward to let me out pitch side, to go to the bobbank, afterproving I lived in Cardiff.

Afterwards - loopy! Think the police gave in and thought let them get on with it. Never seen Cardiff run so many times, all the side streets were manic.

When I got back in town, had to go into Burtons and get a new white shirt to work my evening bar shift, other one was ripped and bloody - mostly mine!

Never forgotten that day :old:

The day was out of control for the police.

Chelsea had at least 1,000 lads and they were all over, in most places Cardiff held their own, but when Chelsea were together their organisation and numbers were to much for City and by the end of the day Chelsea ran the show.

Most of all Chelsea's top lads came to Cardiff that day.

I know all those Cardiff lads on the pitch.

I am sure we played Fulham home weeks before. There were 6 blokes down the front of the bob bank, writing notes and three deffo I saw come out of the side street half way up tudor street from the canton side with about 300-400 other chelsea. The Fulham game they got sussed pretty quickly around 20 minutes into the game and took a few but were led away.

They obviously did all their home work well!

My mate and his dad left after about 80 mins with the score at 3-0. When they got back to the car and turned on the radio it was 3-3.

Chelsea were still doing this up until recently. The season in the prem when we played them in 2013/14, some of their well known faces were in Cardiff on a match day some weeks before we played them, they were having a good nose about.

Thought the Cardiff Police let us off with a lot that day, Chelsea’s reputation proceeded them and if I remember correctly there had been loads of trouble at the N Forest Chealsea game the week before, the Welsh coppers were champing at the bit to sort Chelsea out that day.

When I first started going to Ninian Park in the 70s I couldn’t believe how much the Welsh Police let you away with, compared to the Glasgow Police. It was a joyous revelation to me

I walked around from the Grandstand when Chelsea came around 10-15mins from the end of the game.

The Bob Bank at first ran back in and then they came steaming out, one copper with a dog managed to shut the gate and locked it.

Chelsea had about 400 lads outside the Bob Bank and had come walking around chanting and ready to attack, their famous oo oo.

True Woody, did well against them before the game, and Dai H and co had the better of them when Cardiff opened the gates in the Canton during the match. Cardiff have never been done by Chelsea when it's been equal numbers, or we've had more than them-the Friendly game and the League Cup game in particular stand out. That day however, it all went tits up...
They were the best mob ever in my days of supporting Cardiff since 1970.

In that first photo, is that Chelsea coming into the bob bank? Gates not shut so what’s going on? Always heard about this infamous day but never seen any pictures.

It was Chelsea trying to, there was 1 copper there if I remember right, he closed the gates. We opened them , and they legged It everywhere, different story when they all came out of the ground though!
